00:00 A businessman who committed bigamy was ordered to surrender to his wife of 28 years their
00:08 matrimonial home after they were divorced by the High Court.
00:13 Justice Everall Marriott-Peters also ordered the 60-year-old husband, identified only as
00:18 "Day", to pay his ex-wife's spousal maintenance of RM2,500 every month.
00:25 He was also ordered to pay his 54-year-old ex-wife RM90,000 as arrears in maintenance
00:31 covering the maximum period of three years permitted under the law.
00:36 In her 43-page judgment, Peters found that the husband had committed fraud on several
00:41 levels as he had engaged in a bigamous customary marriage with a Thai woman, Ray, in 2010,
00:47 which the judge said constituted deception and dishonesty.
00:51 Two years later, the husband registered his marriage to Ray based on his fraudulent claim
00:56 that he had divorced his wife.
00:58 He relied on a letter issued by the National Registration Department dated November 29,
01:03 2011, stating that the divorce had been granted eight days earlier.
01:08 However, Peters said it was later discovered that the husband had used a divorce order
01:13 that belonged to another couple, thereby defrauding not only the respondent but JPN as well.
