00:00 Welcome back to TMZ Sports, Mike and Mojo.
00:08 Mojo, we talked earlier this week about Travis Kelsey and his new venture, his new acting
00:14 gig on that big FX show, Grotesquerie.
00:18 Legitimate actors, part of this show, and I think it shows that Travis Kelsey is going
00:24 to be a force in Hollywood.
00:25 And let's be honest here, there aren't many football players who have gone on to have
00:30 successful acting careers, but it's what Travis is trying to do.
00:34 There is somebody who has done it, Mojo.
00:37 Thomas Jones, the old running back for, of course, as you see him there in his Jets uniform,
00:44 also was a really nice player for the Chicago Bears and a couple other teams.
00:47 Well, Thomas Jones, after he retired, he very much successfully transitioned into acting,
00:54 has had a whole bunch of acting roles, including a role in Straight Outta Compton, which was
01:00 a huge movie back in 2015.
01:02 Mojo, we actually had an opportunity to talk to Thomas Jones and we asked him, what advice
01:08 would you give Travis Kelsey?
01:10 Everybody's journey is different.
01:11 You know, while he's playing in the NFL, obviously he has a huge brand, a huge name, and it's
01:16 a great opportunity for him to take advantage of some opportunities, you know, in Hollywood.
01:21 You know what I mean?
01:22 It's a great, great, great opportunity for him.
01:23 And I applaud him for that.
01:25 For me, I didn't know that I was going to be an actor.
01:27 You know, when I retired 12 years ago, I just kind of fell into it and then realized this
01:31 was my transition and my next phase of my life.
01:36 And then I fell in love with it.
01:37 No, I don't think his teammates would have any issue with him being on a TV show.
01:43 I definitely think there's an opportunity for him to find time to train and become a
01:50 thespian of sorts.
01:51 But you know, in my situation, I needed the last, you know, 10 years to really, really
01:57 be in the business, become a showrunner of my own TV shows, become an executive producer
02:02 and an actor on multiple series and TV shows to really kind of get in my zone.
02:06 But you can tell he is very much committed to acting, where I think Travis Kelsey is
02:11 a football player who is doing some acting now.
02:13 And Thomas Jones is an actor and a producer, but nonetheless, some good advice there.
02:19 Yeah, great advice there.
02:21 For someone that would want to do this full time, right?
02:25 Right.
02:26 We make this their goal in life.
02:28 I mean, hey, Babcock, you know, I've done some movies and television shows.
02:33 I even take acting classes right now.
02:36 But I know I'm not going to become an incredible actor unless this is my number one.
02:41 And I devote my life to this.
02:44 That's what Thomas Jones has done.
02:46 And it's taken him a long time with that primary application to get to where he is going.
02:53 And for Travis Kelsey to do this, I don't mean for this to sound rude or disrespectful
03:01 to the acting world, but it's going to be a step backwards or 100 steps backwards for
03:07 Travis Kelsey.
03:08 I mean, the amount of money that he's making for commercials and endorsement deals and
03:14 things like that, I mean, that's where his money is.
03:17 This is what he spent his entire life building his brand to get to him, for him to go back
03:23 and start over in acting.
03:25 I mean, he's going to have to take small roles and extra gigs and really cut his teeth.
03:29 I mean, if he's really trying to make it and become an actor or a thespian, to put it in
03:34 Thomas Jones, he's going to give up so much time and money to get to that point.
03:41 So I don't know if we want to necessarily put Trab, Killer Trab down that route, but
03:47 I think he's perfectly suited to do these guest spots and fun commercials and cameos.
03:54 I mean, I don't know what he's wanting to do.
03:57 I don't know what his goals are in that world, but to do what he's doing now, I mean, it's
04:02 already an allube and a slam dunk for him.
