00:00 The Eastbourne District Veterans Association in collaboration with the Eastbourne branch
00:04 of the Royal British Legion hosted a drill and turnout competition for local cadets.
00:09 This event was held at a cadet centre in Latimer Road, Eastbourne and enabled cadets to show the
00:16 discipline, precision and tradition to local veterans who judged their performance.
00:21 Eyes right! Move to the right! Right turn!
00:29 For those unfamiliar with the term, drill and turnout refers to the synchronised marching
00:37 movements and the immaculate appearance of the participants in military or cadet formations.
00:42 This competition serves as a platform for our local cadets to showcase their skills,
00:48 teamwork and dedication to honour those who have served our country.
00:53 I've said to them this morning, the cadets, that the veterans here today are for them to see people
00:59 that have served in the past and that were here and they can ask us questions and just get a feel
01:06 for how it is in the armed forces and we actively encourage them to come and speak to us. You know,
01:16 we're in, we've got our uniforms on and it's very easy for them to ignore us as we drive around or
01:24 walk around and it's important that events like this bring them together. These sort of events,
01:31 we learn a lot because we ask them all sorts of questions and they are happy to impend their
01:36 stories onto us and tell us their experiences so it's quite fun. It's been very nice to actually
01:42 meet the veterans because they're very friendly, very welcoming and it's nice to just hear stories
01:46 about what they've done and when they offer advice that can be useful for me in the future.
01:52 The winners of this prestigious competition will be announced at the upcoming Eastbourne Armed
01:57 Forces Day, scheduled to take place on the 29th of June at Five Acre Field in Eastbourne.
02:02 This day promises to be a grand celebration of our armed forces and a tribute to the brave men
02:09 and women who have served our nation with pride. So mark your calendars and join us at Five Acre
02:17 Field on the 29th of June to witness the culmination of the Drill and Turnout competition
02:23 and to pay homage to our armed forces. Let's come together as a community to show our support and
02:29 appreciation of those who have made great sacrifices for our freedom.
02:35 Stay tuned for updates as we count down to the Eastbourne Armed Forces Day.
