00:00National security is the most important issue of our times.
00:05Something which, of course, is always true.
00:09And which for us, if we're privileged to serve our country, will become our solemn responsibility.
00:19That's not something I say lightly.
00:21The security and defence of our nation is personal to my family.
00:25Like so many families, I have relatives who served in the Second World War.
00:32My mum's brother, my uncle Roger, served in the Falklands on HMS Antelope.
00:39And I remember the terrible weight when his ship was bombed.
00:44My mum's fear as she sat by the radio every day listening for news.
00:51And then the relief, a long week later, when we found out that he'd survived.
00:58So I know the courage, the service, the sacrifice that allows us to sleep soundly at night from our forces and their families.
01:09I know it. I respect it. And I will serve it with every decision.
01:18It is part of my story.
01:21And the reason why I said from day one of my leadership that the Labour Party had to change.
