The Youth and Sports Ministry will conduct engagement sessions with all stakeholders to assess the financial impact on the country of hosting the 2027 SEA Games, said its minister.

Hannah Yeoh told reporters after the Sports Satellite Account launching ceremony on Friday (May 31) that the engagement sessions are also aimed at finding the interest of other states to co-host with Putrajaya.

In the meantime, Hannah estimates that the expenses for organising the 2027 SEA Games will exceed RM700mil.

00:00Sukan C2027 has been discussed in the Cabinet during our discussion on the development of the Sukan Commonwealth.
00:15The Sukan has been asked to engage with our stakeholders to see whether there is financial impact on the country
00:27and whether there are other countries in Malaysia that want to be co-hosts with Putrajaya.
00:40This engagement will be held next week on 6 June and we will announce the first engagement.
00:49From the engagement session with potential sponsors, I will bring the information back to the Cabinet
00:57before the Cabinet makes a decision on whether to continue or not.
01:02For now, Sarawak is the only country that has shown interest in hosting the event
01:08because they have spent money for this year's Sukan Sukma.
01:13So, they feel that they have the budget and infrastructure, but we have to act as if we are in another country
01:18so that we can work together and discuss with them first.
01:21How much is the initial budget for the Sukan C2027?
01:26The rough estimate is more or less RM700 million.
01:31Based on the Sukan C2017 budget,
01:37the cost will increase from RM2024.
01:44That's why we need to engage with all parties first.
