South Australia has finally seen some decent rain in what has been one of the driest months for the state this year. Adelaide’s CBD recorded just over 10 millimetres today, and despite more rain forecast for tonight, winter is likely to be very dry.

00:00 It's been an unfamiliar sight recently.
00:05 It's beautiful.
00:06 It's actually quite nice. It makes a nice change, I think.
00:08 It's a bit more refreshing.
00:10 But while some were celebrating a wet morning...
00:13 Nice break. It's not too wet,
00:15 but the farmers are getting something out of it, I guess.
00:17 So, yeah, it's not too bad.
00:19 It's good cuddling weather. It's just good weather.
00:21 It's good for the grass, the earth.
00:23 Others were lamenting a bad day for business.
00:26 That's maybe the worst sales I make since I'm here,
00:31 since six months.
00:32 The Bureau of Meteorology says despite today's sprinkling,
00:36 the state is on track to receive the lowest rainfall amount
00:39 for May since 2005.
00:42 So far in May, we've recorded 10.4mm in Adelaide.
00:46 The median is 61.7, so this is very much below average.
00:51 It follows a drier-than-average February, March and April,
00:55 with parts of the state recording the lowest rainfall on record
00:59 for the past three months.
01:01 With the lack of rainfall across the agricultural areas,
01:03 obviously a lot of farmers out there are going to be struggling,
01:06 so hopefully with winter now around the corner,
01:10 we will see some more regular frontal systems
01:12 and some more regular rainfall.
01:14 Temperatures have also been higher than usual.
01:16 Autumn has been quite warm.
01:18 We have seen above-average temperatures for much of May.
01:21 Further showers are expected this evening through to tomorrow morning.
01:25 It's been a welcome sight for many,
01:28 but there is concern it might not be long-lived,
01:31 with the Bureau of Meteorology saying early forecasting
01:34 shows it's likely to be a drier and warmer winter than usual.
01:39 But many are still holding out hope there will be plenty more
01:42 of this stuff to come.
