The India Meteorological Department (IMD) clarified about the over 52 degrees Celsius recorded in Delhi's Mungeshpur on May 29 was an "error in sensor or local factor”. The weather department further said that the heatwave conditions will reduce during the next 2-3 days. On May 29, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that it was "very unlikely" that the temperature in Delhi would rise to this level. The data was provided by the Mungeshpur weather station. Minister of Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju said that senior officials of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have been instructed to verify the data of the weather station.
