00:00 The Department of Science and Technology has a program to help overseas Filipino workers.
00:07 What is this? Rod Laguzan will tell you in detail.
00:10 New citizens,
00:14 that's what we consider our overseas Filipino workers or FW.
00:19 This is because of their sacrifice to work abroad for their families.
00:25 At the same time, this is a big burden on their remittances' economy.
00:29 So, to help the FWs in their reintegration,
00:32 the Department of Science and Technology or DOST has a program for them.
00:37 This is to help them go to their hard work overseas.
00:41 This is the Innovations for Filipinos Working Distantly from the Philippines or iForward Philippines.
00:47 This helps those who want to go back or have already gone back
00:51 or those who have family members who want to start a business.
00:58 We have a training for business for six weeks.
01:02 This is with the help of technology entrepreneurs, business people.
01:08 And when they pass this,
01:10 they will follow the proposal to their business and how this can be used by science and technology.
01:16 If this is passed and we think it will be profitable,
01:21 our funding is 50-50.
01:24 50% for our countrymen and 50% for DOST.
01:28 We are starting with 250,000 for them and 250,000 for DOST.
01:35 And they can use this for the next time.
01:38 One of the benefactors here is Richard Bahador, an aircraft mechanic in Dubai.
01:43 This is a big help to him, especially when he had no idea about having a business.
01:48 Just like our product is Chicharon, they have a machine that they introduced to us.
01:55 For me, my skills and my profession in business is far from knowing how to set up a business.
02:07 So definitely, I can't start this if I didn't get help from DOST.
02:15 He started his business in Chicharon because he loves cooking,
02:19 and many Filipinos are interested in this.
02:22 Richard also said that he has plans to go abroad,
02:25 so his family will be the ones to take care of the business.
02:28 Aside from this, DOST also has programs to help small businessmen
02:33 under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program or SETUP.
02:37 Just like Marina, who owns Nanay Ibang's Everlasting,
02:40 they are still in preparation to qualify for the program.
02:43 We are still in preparation for the technology about the product.
02:47 The product enhancement, how to make the shelf life of the products last longer,
02:54 and how to help with the packaging.
02:58 As a startup, this is a big help for her to make her product better.
03:03 Rod Laguzad, for Pabansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
