02:46 The reality is what happened was the controversy is Pontiac pushed this engine through, EPA
02:51 and all that stuff, using some tricky stuff in the engine to hold back so it would trick
02:58 and fool the EPA testing.
03:01 They would have time to different items to operate the ignition timing.
03:05 That gave a little bit of extra power.
03:07 And they got caught.

03:11 They have still not admitted it all these years later that they got caught.

04:16 That's what this one has.
04:18 But then it's that color, special light orange, one of only two that were built.

05:45 That was kind of when the whole thing with him and Ford began to unravel.

07:24 It was only production installed in '69 and '70 mustangs.

07:55 That engine didn't adapt itself well to drag racing.
07:58 Everybody went with a 428 cobra jet on the quarter mile.
08:01 >> Yeah, actually, for a while there, they tried bringing the 429, the boss 429 engine in.

08:08 >> I know that the early -- when they were still running the big inch engines in super stock, there was a couple guys -- yeah, super stock.

08:37 Unprecedented money on a 71 cuda with a 340 under the hood.
08:44 But it's all about this color combination and the rarity, john.
08:47 >> Yeah, it's really sort of the perfect storm for a 340 car, scott.
08:51 Now, keep in mind, this is not the 32 barrel carburetor.
08:55 That would be on an aar cuda from the previous year.
08:58 That's a single 4 barrel, 275 horsepower, 340.
09:02 It does have a 4 speed.
09:04 So big plus there.
09:05 But one of only two that were built in 1971 in that color, sassy grass green with a white top, white interior, and those white billboards.
09:14 And the money is just astonishing.
