00:00 Rich, looking back at the Premier League season, just in terms of, obviously it was a massive summer,
00:06 who makes the signing of the season for you this time around?
00:11 This is a difficult one, isn't it? Because if you go for Bang for your Buck, you probably do say Declan Rice.
00:15 It was an enormous fee, but he did exactly what he was signed to do at Arsenal.
00:19 He's shown so much more to his game as well. I think he's taken a lot of people by surprise.
00:24 He's taken it to a whole new level as well.
00:26 And he's sort of proof that if you buy well once, you don't have to buy two or three players further down the line.
00:31 So although it's an enormous sort of cost initially, it means Arsenal won't need to buy,
00:36 you'd say, another similar midfielder now for five or six years.
00:40 We always like to be a bit hipster, those journalists, don't we?
00:42 So you've got to look at Ross Barkley, what he's done at Luton.
00:45 A player who lots of us will have maybe rolled our eyebrows at and been like,
00:48 "Oh, why have they signed him? They had him in Andros Townsend, didn't they?"
00:52 And England has been, but Ross Barkley has been exceptional.
00:56 Looks like he's set to stay in the Premier League as well and get maybe even a chance of Champions League football with Aston Villa.
01:01 I think the standard one's got to be Cole Palmer, really.
01:03 Just the sheer numbers that he's brought to this Chelsea side.
01:06 I mean, what's it, 22 Premier League goals, I think he scored this season.
01:09 And he really has become the go-to guy for Chelsea.
01:14 God knows what the season would be without him, really.
01:16 And obviously, he got that sixth-place finish.
01:18 I don't think it's any exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for him, they probably would have been closer to around 10th, mid-table kind of positions.
01:26 And yeah, not that it did Mauricio Pochettino any good in the long run anyway, but I think Palmer's been fantastic.
01:32 And he's actually really elevated himself to probably one of those players now where you're going into the Euros, for instance,
01:38 thinking it's difficult for Southgate to leave him out, despite the attacking quality that England have in those areas.
01:43 So for me, he's probably been the standout signing of the season, yeah.
01:47 For me, looking at it, I don't think Chelsea finished sixth without Cole Palmer, let's be frank.
01:53 He's, what, 21, 22? And he's carried that team on his shoulders ever since he arrived.
02:00 And yes, Chelsea ended the season well, and he clicked.
02:05 And they probably weren't eventually always going to click into gear, but Cole Palmer, from the outset, it was a brave move to leave Manchester City,
02:12 you know, his boyhood club who he's come through.
02:14 And probably if he's been a bit patient, he might be in the plans next season or the season after, you know.
02:21 But he wanted to go and play first-team football, moved away from home.
02:26 And yeah, he's been superb.
02:28 And people may be looking at his price tag, thinking, is he going to be worth it?
02:31 Well, he'd be worth probably double that now, given what he has achieved.
02:36 And then I probably think that for Liverpool, that's been a good buy, especially in terms of the money, £35 million for Brighton.
02:44 And for a World Cup winner, that's a fantastic price, really, isn't it?
02:47 He's had a good season, probably been Liverpool's maybe second-best player behind Virgil van Dijk this campaign.
02:55 But yeah, for me, looking at what they've achieved, Cole Palmer's probably the best.
