00:00 The Creative KL Grants Programme from ThinkCity, worth 20 million ringgit in total, is aimed
00:08 at transforming and beautifying run-down areas of Kuala Lumpur. Each grant is worth between
00:13 30,000 and 300,000 ringgit, and applications will be vetted by a panel of experts at ThinkCity.
00:22 This initiative will focus on efforts to rejuvenate the capital's downtown area. ThinkCity said
00:27 this area was within a three-kilometre radius of the confluence of Sungai Klang and Sungai
00:32 Gombak. A ceremony was held at Semua House Complex in Jalan Bunus 6 to launch the programme
00:38 on Tuesday with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Federal Territories, Dr Zalihah
00:43 Mustafa in attendance as guest of honour. ThinkCity Managing Director Hamdan Abdul Majid,
00:50 in his speech, said that transforming downtown Kuala Lumpur was key to unlocking the city's
00:54 historic and cultural appeal.
00:57 This vision can be achieved by all parties, including the community, through the Creative
01:04 Kuala Lumpur Grants Programme. Launched in 2020, the Creative KL Programme aims to revive
01:12 the historic city centre towards the development of a creative hub that is capable of thriving,
01:17 thriving and developing. This programme strengthens the community and offers an opportunity to
01:24 promote the development of the creative and economic sector, as well as strengthen social
01:32 and environmental resilience in the city centre of Kuala Lumpur.
01:35 Zalihah, in her speech, said it was hoped the grant would promote the creative industry
01:40 and spur entrepreneurship in the capital. She said the federal government would also
01:45 be implementing several flagship projects aimed at making the capital a global attraction.
01:50 "Kuala Lumpur, as a capital, not only needs to focus on the economy, but it can also be
01:59 promoted as a hub of dynamic culture and creativity. This is because we need to ensure that Kuala
02:07 Lumpur is continuously relevant and competitive in the international arena by showing the
02:13 uniqueness, innovation and enriching the cultural heritage and potential of Kuala Lumpur, which
02:20 will be a potential attraction for domestic and international tourists."
02:26 "I would like to share that the government will play a proactive role in implementing
02:32 flagship projects by increasing and increasing efforts to ensure that it achieves full potential
02:40 and by giving a new breath to the city centre of Kuala Lumpur so that it can become a creative
02:46 destination that is global."
02:48 Stakeholders and private outfits have until July 29 to submit proposals for grants.
