'The recognition of the State of Palestine as a State is a decision we do not take against anyone, least of all against Israel, a friendly people whom we respect', says Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez, with his government poised to formally take the step alongside Ireland and Norway. He adds that 'this decision reflects our outright rejection of Hamas'.

00:00 "In the meeting of the Council of Ministers today, the Spanish government will approve
00:10 the official recognition of the State of Palestine.
00:15 Spain will join the more than 140 countries that already recognize Palestine as a state
00:21 in the world.
00:22 As I said before, the recognition of the State of Palestine as a state is a decision that
00:25 we do not adopt against anyone, even less against Israel, a friendly people whom we
00:30 respect and appreciate, and with whom we want to have the best possible relationship.
00:35 In addition, this decision reflects our resounding frontal rejection of Hamas, which is against
00:44 the solution of the two states.
00:47 The recognition of the State of Palestine is not only a matter of historical justice,
00:51 or the legitimate aspirations of the people of Palestine.
00:56 It is also a necessary need if we want to achieve peace between all.
01:01 It is the only way to move towards the solution that we all recognize as the only possible
01:06 to achieve a future of peace, that of a Palestinian state that lives together with the State of
01:12 Israel in peace and security.
