00:00Can you clarify this idea of this sort of national service scheme?
00:03If I am the parent of teenagers and they don't turn up or they opt out, what sanctions do I face?
00:12So, well, as a parent, clearly none, because this relates to an adult who is 18 years old
00:19and it is their responsibility to engage with the programme. But this is a great opportunity, Nick.
00:24National service is something that's not unique across the world. In fact,
00:29countries like Norway and Switzerland and Sweden, for example, have fantastic national service.
00:34In the Swedish example, those that pass through that, 80% of them actually say at the end of it
00:39that they would actually actively recommend the programme to a friend. This is a chance
00:44for young people, sorry about the noise, this is a chance for young people to learn skills
00:49and build those connections and basic confidence that they can use to sustain
00:54them through the rest of their lives. It's a great opportunity. Now, we're going to have
00:57a Royal Commission that's going to look at some of the details of the incentives and so on
01:01around that, but I think this is a great opportunity. And we've started a bold debate. Why?
01:05Because we're out there with bold policies that are about the best for the future of our country.
