Tom's Guide goes hands-on with Samsung The Frame 2024, the newest edition of the company’s internet-famous lifestyle TV that looks like museum art when it’s on standby.

00:00Yes, everyone's favorite lifestyle TV is back.
00:03I'm here with Samsung The Frame 2024,
00:05and I'm giving you one of your first looks from CES.
00:08Let's go check it out.
00:11Ah, The Frame.
00:12This is the 4K TV that has only become more popular.
00:15It's everywhere on social media,
00:17so much so that people are literally trying
00:19to recreate it using a normal TV and molding.
00:21But it's really hard to recreate the real thing.
00:24Back in 2022, I believe, it got a significant upgrade
00:27to its anti-reflective technology,
00:29which is really the key to making the artwork
00:31displayed on the screen look more like it's from a gallery.
00:33It made a big difference over the previous version
00:35when I saw the two side by side.
00:37For this year's upgrade, I can't say that I see
00:39such an improvement in the same way, but here's what's new.
00:42Most notably, in my opinion, is that The Frame
00:44is more energy efficient with a new dynamic refresh rate.
00:47This is a big deal because this is a TV
00:49that a lot of people buy with the intention
00:51of leaving it on pretty much 24-7.
00:53When enabled with Art Mode, the 55-inch and up models
00:56will automatically reduce the refresh rate to 60 hertz.
00:59That means you can still enjoy your high-quality artwork
01:02while using less energy.
01:04Better yet, when you're enjoying the artwork,
01:05you know you're seeing it
01:06with the Pantone-validated Artful Color Check,
01:09which basically means that the artwork on these,
01:11under normal lighting, looks as true
01:12as you'll see in a museum.
01:14And if you're not sure what kind of artwork you even want,
01:16the updated Art Store has a new streaming feature
01:18that curates a sampling from the Art Store's collection
01:21of over 2,500 images,
01:23with fresh, free, hand-selected artworks
01:25offered monthly for you to use.
01:27But if you prefer to use your own images,
01:28you'll be glad to know that the SmartThings mobile app
01:30has been optimized to make image uploading
01:32easier than before.
01:34I think it's also worth noting that the frame
01:35is not to be confused with Samsung's new Music Box,
01:38which at first, I literally thought
01:40was a smaller version of the frame,
01:42but it's actually just a subwoofer slash wireless speaker
01:44that you can optionally add your own photo to.
01:47Now, it's still a borderline niche TV,
01:49and I think more people will be interested
01:50in the new Samsung S95, the OLED TV.
01:53Samsung also does have a sick new 8K projector
01:55out this year,
