Gov’t distributes humanitarian aid to Typhoon #AghonPH-affected residents

00:00Still fresh from this aid tour of provinces hit hard by El Nino's extreme heat and dry spell,
00:05the president today set his sights to further help and reach out to the provinces in the Calabarzon
00:10area, eastern Visayas, Bicol and Mimaropa, battered by a still raging Typhoon Agon,
00:16the first to hit the country this year. Close to a million and a half pesos in relief assistance
00:22has been released thus far, with three billion pesos more in cash and in kind,
00:27waving in the wings as per strict instructions from the president to keep close tabs on the
00:31typhoon's course and aftermath. Our Alan Francisco gets us up to speed with the latest.
00:40From the start, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. has been closely monitoring
00:44the impact in the government's response to the devastation caused by Typhoon Agon in the country.
00:50In fact, President Marcos reported that the government has already distributed humanitarian
00:56assistance to those affected by Typhoon Agon. President Marcos also mentioned that there are
01:02over three billion pesos in standby funds and preposition goods and stockpiles ready to ensure
01:08broader and faster assistance to Filipinos affected by the typhoon. The president assured
01:14that government agencies will continue to support every community and ensure
01:18the safety and well-being of our citizens. President Marcos also promptly instructed
01:23local governments, emergency services, and government agencies to monitor and immediately
01:28respond to the effects of the typhoon. The president urged the public to remain alert
01:33during the typhoon. He also emphasized prioritizing the safety and welfare of everyone, including
01:40ensuring sufficient food and non-food items. He also stressed the importance of health services
01:46and evacuation centers in affected communities. President Marcos called on everyone to watch over
01:52each other during this calamity, especially the vulnerable sectors.
01:57According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, as of tonight, over 1.3 million pesos
02:03worth of humanitarian assistance has been distributed to those affected by the typhoon,
02:08particularly in the Mimaropa and Bicol regions. This morning, an additional 5,000 family food packs
02:14arrived in Infanta Quezon. Apart from the assistance from the DSWD, local government
02:20units in the provinces of Albay, Camarinesur, Catanduanes, and Sorsogon also impromptly
02:26provided aid. If the damage caused by the typhoon worsens, the DSWD assures sufficient funds are
02:32available. We remind our countrymen to coordinate with your local government units, particularly
02:42your local social welfare development officers, so that they can provide the necessary assistance
02:48that you are requesting from our government. We are also encouraging you to consult with them
02:59so that we can avoid further damages or risks that may be caused by this weather disturbance.
03:11Over 800,000 families are reported to have been affected by Typhoon Agon. Among them,
03:17600 families were evacuated with some brought to evacuation centers. They were assured of
03:23receiving proper assistance, such as food and non-food items. Validation is still ongoing
03:29for the five reported deaths due to Typhoon Agon. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction
03:34and Management Council, four of these deaths are from the Calabarzon region and one from
03:39Northern Mindanao. A billion pesos from the Quick Response Fund of the Department of Agriculture
03:58is ready to be distributed to farmers and fishermen affected by Typhoon Agon and other calamities.
04:04Agriculture Assistance Secretary Unicoles Manalo assured the agency has allocated funds
04:09to meet the needs of the agriculture sector. This in addition to the assistance provided
04:14by the DA for the National Rice Program and funds from the Rice Tarification Law
04:19to provide financial aid, seeds, machinery and training. Several ports have resumed operations
04:25as the weather has cleared after ship trips due to Typhoon Agon over the weekend. Alan Francisco
