Best SPM results since 2013, says Education DG

There's been an overall improvement for the 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations compared to 2022.

Education director-general Azman Adnan said the National Average Grade (GPN) for 2023 is 4.60, compared to 4.74 in 2022.

A lower GPN score indicates better performance.

00:09 overall, the achievement of the SPM candidates in 2023
00:16 is very proud based on the GPN index compared to previous years.
00:24 In general, the overall achievement of the candidates has increased well
00:30 with the GPN value of 4.60 points compared to 4.74 points in 2022,
00:42 which is a difference of 0.14 points.
00:47 The GPN trend from 2021 to 2023
00:55 can also be seen based on the GPN index.
01:01 The SPM achievement in 2023 for both categories of urban and suburban candidates
01:09 has shown an increase.
01:12 However, the gap between urban and suburban achievements
01:17 in 2022 and 2023 remained at a gap of 4.3 points.

01:38 of the 373,525 candidates who have been selected by the SPM
01:46 out of 11,713 candidates,
01:51 3.1% have received the Cemerlang decision
01:56 in the A+, A and A-.
02:01 In all studies, compared to 10,109 candidates,
02:06 2.7% in 2022.
02:11 This means that our quality of achievement is increasing.
02:16 The number of candidates who received the Cemerlang decision
02:19 has shown an increase of 1,604 candidates,
02:24 which is 0.4%.
02:27 The number of candidates who received at least a C or C grade
02:32 in all studies is 83,112 candidates,
02:38 which is 22.3% in 2023
02:43 compared to 75,322 candidates,
02:47 which is 20.1% in 2022.
02:52 This figure shows an increase of 7,790 candidates,
02:58 which is 2.1%.
03:02 Meanwhile, 131,489 candidates,
03:08 which is 35.2%,
03:10 have received at least a C or E grade
03:14 in all studies in 2023
03:19 compared to 128,193 candidates,
03:23 which is 34.3% in 2022.
03:28 This figure also shows an increase of 3,296 candidates,
03:34 which is 0.9% compared to 2022.
