00:00 Although it was great to see Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprising their most
00:04 iconic roles, and a few other familiar faces for that matter along the way, it doesn't
00:10 change the fact that there's a lot of things in Obi-Wan Kenobi that simply do not make
00:15 sense.
00:16 Gareth here from WhatCulture Star Wars and here are 10 Things in Obi-Wan Kenobi That
00:21 Make No Sense.
00:22 10.
00:23 Somehow, the Stormtroopers are Less Competent Than Ever
00:27 The Stormtroopers' incompetence has been a running joke since Star Wars premiered all
00:31 those moons ago.
00:33 Their marksmanship skills are so bad, it would actually be out of character if they hit something.
00:38 But in Obi-Wan Kenobi, these bucketheads aren't just inept, they're idiots.
00:42 In episode 5, hundreds of these soldiers corner half a dozen PATH members, and yet fail to
00:47 shoot anyone unless they are two feet away.
00:50 As silly as that moment is, episode 4 might have the dumbest Stormtrooper moment ever,
00:56 where Reva suspects Imperial Officer Tala is a double agent, she has two of her white
01:01 armoured footmen take her away.
01:03 Luckily, Tala grabs one of the Stormtroopers' weapons and blasts them.
01:07 But how did she get a hold of it?
01:08 Well, she stunned the Stormtroopers by slapping them.
01:11 What are these helmets made of, paper?
01:13 You wouldn't feel a slap if you were wearing a sports helmet, and yet it was enough to
01:16 leave these Stormtroopers utterly dazed.
01:19 9.
01:20 Why did it take so long to open the PATH gate?
01:23 Because episode 4 was somewhat underwhelming for most, many viewers were worried the Obi-Wan
01:27 Kenobi series wouldn't be able to recover.
01:30 Thankfully, episode 5 reset the course by giving viewers everything they were looking
01:34 for.
01:35 We finally learned Reva's backstory, and saw her develop as a character, and Darth
01:39 Vader got the chance to truly cut loose.
01:42 Having said that, this episode suffers from a couple of gripes many cannot overlook.
01:47 After Vader's forces track down the PATH's hideout, Reva orders the Stormtroopers to
01:51 use a heavy gun to rip apart the blast door.
01:54 Obi-Wan tells the PATH leader Roken the Imperials should break through within the hour.
01:58 When the titular character fails to stall Reva, she then uses her lightsaber to slice
02:02 through said door, deactivating the lock mechanism.
02:06 Which actually begs the question, why didn't she just use her weapon sooner?
02:10 Why did she waste all that time when she could have just hacked through the door in a couple
02:14 of seconds?
02:15 I mean, it's literally a laser sword.
02:16 It's not like she isn't aware of her lightsaber's cutting capabilities.
02:20 It just felt a bit weird.
02:22 8.
02:23 Darth Vader Keeps Failing to Finish His Enemies Off
02:25 Contrary to what Darth Vader said in Return of the Jedi, he is not exactly known for being
02:30 forgiving.
02:31 On many occasions, he has impulsively killed his own men, simply because he was unable
02:35 to control his anger.
02:36 Even though this behavior makes the Sith look a bit petty at times, it emphasizes that Vader
02:41 has no qualms about killing anyone.
02:43 But throughout the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, Vader keeps sparing his enemies, purely for
02:47 the sake of the plot.
02:49 After Reva betrays him, he plunges his lightsaber into her abdomen.
02:52 As she lies helplessly on the ground, finishing her off should be as easy as shooting Wop
02:57 rats in a barrel.
02:58 Instead, Vader walks away, giving the Inquisitor time to escape and recuperate.
03:03 If this was a one-off incident, it could be forgiven.
03:06 But in Episode 6, the fallen Jedi makes the same mistake.
03:10 After dropping a pile of boulders on Obi-Wan, the former Padawan trots off, assuming the
03:14 deed is done.
03:16 But since Obi-Wan is resourceful and, you know, a Jedi knight, a bunch of rocks obviously
03:20 isn't going to be enough to kill him off.
03:23 Considering Vader is obsessed about killing his master for a decade, you'd think he
03:26 wouldn't accept Obi-Wan was dead unless he was looking at his charred corpse.
03:31 But that would not have served the plot.
03:33 How did Anakin not sense Reva as a youngling?
03:36 In Episode 5, Reva reveals to Obi-Wan that she was one of the younglings sentenced to
03:40 death during the Great Jedi Purge.
03:43 After the Emperor initiated Order 66, Darth Vader and the clone troopers marched into
03:48 the Jedi Temple to exterminate every Force wielder they saw.
03:52 And knowing she couldn't stop Vader, Reva played dead to escape the Sith's wrath.
03:57 Reva's strategy was so clever, there's no reason why it wouldn't be able to fool
04:00 an ordinary person.
04:02 But Vader is far from ordinary, isn't he?
04:04 Like any Sith, Vader can detect people from great distances.
04:07 However, a Force wielder's ability to detect another is far easier if the other person
04:12 is Force-sensitive as well.
04:14 Because Reva was taught in the ways of the Force, she shouldn't have been able to trick
04:18 Darth Vader.
04:20 Especially since he's one of the most powerful Sith to ever live.
04:23 How odd.
04:24 6.
04:25 Why was Obi-Wan surprised to hear Anakin was still alive?
04:29 While there could be an argument to be made that Obi-Wan was very much under the impression
04:32 that his former padawan and brother, Anakin, ultimately succumbed to his blistering injuries
04:37 in the aftermath of the pair's fiery duel on Mustafar in Revenge of the Sith for a time,
04:42 the fact he only stumbled on the fact he was actually wrong about Skywalker's demise
04:45 some ten years on from their fight in episode two of the series felt a little bit odd.
04:51 For those pointing to the idea of Kenobi possibly not being aware of the Chosen One now going
04:55 as Darth Vader, in the time since their emotional last encounter, Yoda very much referenced
05:00 Anakin being consumed by Darth Vader to Kenobi during said episode three prequel.
05:06 Even with Kenobi's isolation on Tatooine and cutting himself off from the Force, did
05:10 he not even once hear of a frightened civilian on the desert planet talk about the Emperor's
05:15 right-hand man wreaking havoc across the galaxy?
05:17 Sure, the planet is on the outer rim, but it just feels odd that he never once heard
05:22 of the name Vader being uttered aloud, and put two and two together during his ten years
05:26 of exile, and consistently spending time around the planet's occupants and his Tibiden Station
05:31 workers.
05:32 5.
05:33 How did Obi-Wan outrun a tidal wave?
05:36 In episode four, Obi-Wan is shot at by stormtroopers in an underwater corridor, forcing him to
05:42 deflect their lasers with his lightsaber.
05:44 To our heroes' horror, one laser is redirected towards a glass wall, cracking it open.
05:49 Using the Force, though, Obi-Wan eventually keeps the glass together, giving his companions
05:53 enough time to escape.
05:55 And when they reach the other room, Obi-Wan then stops using the Force to join them, causing
05:59 hundreds of gallons to crash into the corridor.
06:02 Fortunately, though, he manages to reach the next room, allowing T'Arla to seal the corridor.
06:07 However, it's damn near impossible to outrun a tidal wave.
06:10 When water bursts through a compact area like what's depicted in this scene, it can move
06:15 up to 500 miles per hour.
06:18 Obi-Wan could have survived if he just used Force speed - Star Wars keep forgetting that
06:21 Jedi's can do that - but instead, he simply jogs away from the rushing current.
06:26 4.
06:27 Why did Obi-Wan let himself be scanned in Mapuzo?
06:30 When Obi-Wan is stopped by stormtroopers on Mapuzo in Episode 3, the soldiers force him
06:35 to undergo a probe scan to ensure he's not a Jedi.
06:39 As soon as the machine finishes scanning him, Obi-Wan then blasts the troops and flees with
06:43 Princess Leia.
06:44 Although he tries to stay hidden, the probe's data is transferred to the Imperials, informing
06:49 the Inquisitors of his location.
06:51 Within a matter of hours, Darth Vader and his minions land on Mapuzo, which results
06:55 in the locals being murdered, and Obi-Wan being incinerated by his former pupil.
06:59 What a palaver, eh?
07:00 However, all of this could have been avoided if Obi-Wan shot the stormtroopers before he
07:04 was scanned by the Imperial probe.
07:07 Obviously, he's a bit reluctant to draw his weapon since he doesn't want to cause
07:10 a scene.
07:11 But since he had to almost inevitably blast the stormtroopers to continue on his journey
07:15 anyway, why didn't he just shoot them or the probe sooner?
07:19 Even though this action put him in danger, the fact that he allowed himself to be scanned
07:22 made it a thousand times worse, since the Empire then learned exactly where he was residing.
07:28 3.
07:29 Why didn't Obi-Wan go around the gate on Mapuzo?
07:32 As Obi-Wan Kenobi and Leia Organa make their way to a rendezvous point on Mapuzo, they're
07:37 picked up by a mole-like alien called Frec.
07:40 As he brings them to a laser gate guarded by stormtroopers, the untrustworthy Frec asks
07:45 the soldiers to investigate his passengers.
07:47 This then leads to a shootout since Obi-Wan and Leia aren't able to get around the laser
07:51 gate.
07:52 Oh wait, no, yeah, they probably could have.
07:54 All they had to do was walk around the gate to reach the other side.
07:57 Even though a toddler could have figured this out, Obi-Wan instead blasts the gate mechanism
08:01 to continue his mission.
08:03 This entire situation is so parodical, it's reminiscent of a scene from Robin Hood Men
08:08 in Tights, where our hero is informed he can just walk around Little John's toll bridge,
08:12 but he refuses to.
08:14 What makes this scene even dumber is that this plot hole could have easily been fixed
08:18 if there was a large structure on both sides of the gate or something like that, preventing
08:22 anyone from getting around it.
08:24 2.
08:25 The story contradicts key moments in A New Hope
08:28 No matter how much one loves Han Solo, lightsabers and the Force, Star Wars has always suffered
08:33 from one very serious problem.
08:35 It has to work around the limitations of its own continuity.
08:38 Because George Lucas' creation has expanded its lore into comics, books, video games,
08:43 animated series, TV shows and movie spin-offs, it's virtually impossible for the story
08:48 to be flawlessly cohesive.
08:50 The Obi-Wan Kenobi series proves this point, since it conflicts with the original trilogy.
08:54 In A New Hope, Princess Leia leaves a message in R2-D2, referring to Obi-Wan as a "man
08:59 who served my father in the Clone Wars".
09:02 Based on this odd phrasing, it sounds like the two have never met, but as has been revealed
09:06 in the Disney+ series, the two are more than well-acquainted.
09:09 Considering the pair went on a planet-hopping adventure ten years prior, and were chased
09:13 by Inquisitors for crying out loud, it feels like Leia has no reason to introduce herself,
09:18 since Obi-Wan knows exactly who she is.
09:21 Sadly, there is no way to fix this continuity error, meaning die-hard fans will just have
09:25 to accept this egregious blunder.
09:30 The idea of a hero disguising themselves as an Empire employee is an age-old trope in
09:35 the world of Star Wars, isn't it?
09:37 So it's not too surprising Obi-Wan Kenobi made a reference to this running joke by including
09:41 a scene of our hero pretending he's working with the Empire.
09:45 But the disguise that Obi-Wan wears while escaping Fortress Inquisitorius with Leia
09:49 is so ludicrous, it feels more suited to space balls than the iconic sci-fi franchise.
09:55 To get out of the facility, Obi-Wan dons the attire of an Imperial officer, but it fits
10:00 so badly, it's blatantly obvious it's not his uniform.
10:03 Also, even though the majority of Imperial officers can't have facial hair, nobody
10:07 notices Obi-Wan has a damn glorious beard.
10:11 But the most preposterous moment is how Obi-Wan hides Leia.
10:14 To make sure nobody sees her, he places her under his coat.
10:18 This guy is a legendary Jedi Knight, and that is the best strategy he could come up with.
10:22 You know what the silliest thing is?
10:24 Obi-Wan's plan actually bloody works.
10:27 And that's our list!
