Tiny shelter dog is living her best life now
Transcript
00:00 Squish came from a shelter in Texas.
00:02 The organization that I got her from,
00:04 they saved her so that she wouldn't get euthanized.
00:07 I'm Cassie, and this is Squish's story for GeoBeats.
00:11 When she's standing, she looks like a kangaroo.
00:13 She built a lot of muscle after we got her.
00:15 Sometimes she looks like a little rat if she's wet.
00:18 We took her to the vet to get a dental cleaning,
00:22 and the vet was looking and said,
00:23 "This is the most interesting mouth I've ever seen."
00:25 What are you doing?
00:28 We really don't know anything about her backstory.
00:30 When we did pick her up for the first time,
00:32 her tail was so tucked under, we didn't even see the tail.
00:35 We were looking at her and we were like,
00:36 "We thought she had a tail, but I guess not."
00:38 And then we realized she was just so scared,
00:40 it was just so tucked up.
00:41 It kind of does seem like no one really was caring for her.
00:44 You're a strong lady.
00:45 For her full personality to come out,
00:47 it was definitely a few weeks.
00:48 As she got to know us better
00:50 and knew that we were a safe space,
00:51 that's when she really started.
00:53 (groaning)
00:57 (dog whining)
00:59 She gets super energetic,
01:02 and she'll run up if she wants attention
01:04 and just kind of slap us in the face with her little paws
01:06 and wiggle around, trying to get us to play with her.
01:08 (dog whining)
01:11 She loves being the center of attention.
01:13 I think she thinks she's a person, or maybe a cat,
01:15 but definitely she has no idea she's a dog.
01:18 Our bigger dogs are so nice to her, they're so gentle.
01:21 And they always just baby her and take care of her
01:23 and make sure she's having fun.
01:25 She loves to steal the toys from the bigger dogs
01:28 when they're all playing.
01:28 She likes to hide under our kitchen table
01:30 'cause our really big dog can't reach her there.
01:32 So she'll grab the toy from him, run it under the table,
01:35 and just kind of play a game of like, you can't catch me,
01:37 I got all the toys.
01:38 In the morning when she wakes up,
01:40 she'll crawl up from the covers
01:41 and just kind of crawl on top of us
01:42 and slap us in the face if we're not up yet.
01:45 She was not a barker at first.
01:46 She did not make any noise.
01:48 But now she likes to boss our two big dogs around.
01:52 And so sometimes if they are not doing what she wants,
01:54 she will start barking at them.
01:56 And she barks at them alien.
01:57 (dog barks)
01:59 What are you doing?
02:01 (dog barks)
02:03 She rules the house.
02:04 She tells the big dogs what to do, where to go,
02:07 what's going on.
02:08 We actually did get a DNA test done on her.
02:18 And she's mostly a Chihuahua with a little bit of toy poodle
02:22 and then I think six or seven other just random breed mixes.
02:26 She's in heaven.
02:27 I think a little bit of like a Whippet
02:29 and some really shocking dogs,
02:30 like a Pomeranian or something.
02:32 Very fluffy dogs were in her DNA test
02:34 and we were shocked because she is not fluffy at all.
02:36 There was just something about her,
02:38 this sounds crazy,
02:39 but it literally feels like a soul connection.
02:40 Like I just knew that she was supposed to come home with me.
02:43 Okay, no, we're done.
02:46 We're done.
