00:00 Good morning, good morning.
00:01 So pleased to be joined by Vice Chair Ted Lieu and DPCC Chair
00:08 Debbie Dingell and DPCC Co-Chair Lori Trahan.
00:12 Congress has been in session, as you know,
00:14 for the last four weeks with very little to show for it,
00:19 because the Republican majority refuses
00:22 to prioritize the needs of the American people.
00:25 As we prepare to head home to our districts
00:28 for Memorial Day, the House Democrats
00:31 are focused not on the divisive messaging bills
00:35 that Speaker Johnson is carrying forward,
00:37 but on lowering costs and fulfilling the promise
00:40 of the American dream.
00:42 That means making housing more affordable
00:43 so that economic mobility that comes with home ownership
00:48 is within reach for the next generation.
00:50 That means defending democracy and our freedom
00:54 from MAGA extremists who have made it so that young women
00:57 growing up in America today have fewer rights than their mothers
01:01 and grandmothers.
01:03 That means ensuring that our veterans back home
01:05 have access to health care benefits that they've earned.
01:09 Thanks to House Democrats and President Biden,
01:11 more than 800,000 veterans have received health care
01:14 because of the PACT Act.
01:16 We're building a strong economic foundation
01:18 that will grow the middle class and make life
01:20 easier for working families.
01:23 Under President Biden, we've seen incredible, dramatic
01:26 growth, over 17 million jobs, over 17 million small business
01:31 applications, and more than 15 million jobs created.
01:34 House Republicans have shown us their vision for the economy.
01:38 Tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires
01:40 and wealthy corporations, repealing the $35 monthly cap
01:44 on insulin, and slashing Social Security and Medicare,
01:48 leaving middle class families behind.
01:51 Vice Chair, Ted Lieu.
01:54 Thank you, Chairman Aguilar.
