00:00 Hi, I'm Annie Taylor-Joy.
00:01 And I'm Chris Hemsworth.
00:02 And this is the Wired Autocomplete Interview.
00:05 Yeah.
00:07 I just did Transformers. I did Optimus Prime.
00:13 No, you what? That's sick.
00:16 Bring me Shia LaBeouf.
00:17 Where's Megan Fox?
00:19 Hello.
00:24 How was Annie Taylor-Joy discovered?
00:27 I was walking my dog and a car started chasing me.
00:32 And I picked up my dog straight up.
00:34 So like at the time, my parents had been watching a lot of 24.
00:37 And so in my head, when I was like walking down the street with my dog,
00:40 I was like, "Ah, maybe that car is chasing me, but maybe it's not."
00:43 And then I picked up pace and the car did start chasing me.
00:46 And then this guy stuck his head out the window and said,
00:49 "If you stop, you won't regress it."
00:52 And I stopped. And it was a modeling agency.
00:54 But at the end of that conversation, they were like, "Never do that again."
00:58 Yeah, wow.
00:59 Don't know what the moral of the story is here.
01:00 Like, definitely don't stop. But it worked out for me.
01:03 Do, but don't. How good...
01:05 Oh, no.
01:06 You're too aggressive with it.
01:09 Did someone put some superglue in?
01:10 How good is Annie Taylor-Joy at chess?
01:15 So I was quite good when we were filming.
01:17 And then, you know, that short-term memory part of your brain
01:20 where you store all the stuff that you're supposed to do for film and TV.
01:23 I had to fill it with other things.
01:25 So I filled it with Cranky Black and this and that and whatever.
01:29 But I do want to get back into it.
01:31 We should have a chess game.
01:32 We should.
01:33 Now, I used to play chess as a kid.
01:35 Really?
01:35 Not so much anymore.
01:36 How does Annie Taylor-Joy cry on cue?
01:40 Can you cry on cue?
01:41 I can cry on cue.
01:42 I also had a nosebleed on cue once, which was really crazy.
01:46 It was supposed to happen in the scene.
01:48 And then when it was supposed to happen in the scene, I had a nosebleed.
01:52 Yeah, for real.
01:53 Wow.
01:53 It was really crazy.
01:54 I once had somebody tell me that the best way to remember lines was to have the right thoughts.
02:00 And if you're having the right thoughts, then the right thing to say would naturally come.
02:03 And so I feel like when you're crying like that, it just naturally, the emotion takes you there.
02:08 So you have to think of something sad or is it like physical?
02:11 No, it cannot be.
02:13 It cannot be about my own life.
02:15 I made that mistake on my first movie.
02:17 I spent the whole day prepping for this really emotional scene.
02:22 And I just thought of terrible things for seven hours straight, which is really not on camera.
02:26 So by the time that the scene came around, I was like, I got nothing.
02:31 So yeah, it has to be for the point of view of the character.
02:33 But how about you?
02:34 I'm curious.
02:34 I feel like so many years of trying to manipulate emotions that my body's like, nah.
02:41 Nah.
02:42 It calls BS every time I try and do it.
02:44 So I hope the script gets me there and I hope it organically happens.
02:48 But also more concentrate on whatever the emotion is and whatever I'm trying to say
02:52 or do in the scene rather than actually cry.
02:54 How does Anya Taylor-Joy know Spanish?
02:57 It is my first language.
02:59 So most of my family lives in Argentina.
03:02 My mum is half English, half Spanish, born in Africa.
03:06 I learned to speak English when I was eight years old.
03:08 It's one of the main questions for me.
03:09 How come Chris Hemsworth is so good at Spanish?
03:11 Also just comes naturally.
03:14 All right.
03:14 Yeah, flip it.
03:15 Oh, it's my turn.
03:17 Yeah, it's your turn.
03:18 Is Chris Hemsworth the villain in Furiosa?
03:22 No.
03:22 Well, I mean to be--
03:26 Not in his own eyes.
03:27 Yeah.
03:28 I mean, I think he sort of justifies his actions through the lens of--
03:31 and his version of how things are.
03:34 And he believes he's doing what is appropriate and needed for his survival for himself,
03:40 but also for Furiosa and the people, the biker horde that he's responsible for.
03:44 But yeah, he's not a nice guy.
03:47 Who is Chris Hemsworth?
03:48 I'm going to say, is it like related to?
03:51 Who is Chris Hemsworth's best friend?
03:53 Besides you, I've got two guys I work with that I've known since I was six and seven.
03:58 Zocchi and Aza, who I think you would have met.
04:00 Yeah.
04:01 I was going to say your kids.
04:02 You're a really great dad.
04:03 Kids.
04:03 Let's do that one again in case they're watching.
04:05 Oh, my kids, of course.
04:06 The kids.
04:07 And my wife.
04:08 And my wife.
04:08 Kids and my wife.
04:09 Yeah, fuck Chris.
04:12 When was Chris Hemsworth--
04:14 OK.
04:16 Dancing with the stars?
04:17 Yeah.
04:17 You're joking.
04:18 Don't be surprised.
04:19 It's-- you've seen it.
04:20 Which-- no, I haven't.
04:21 I swear to God.
04:21 She's watching every day on set before a scene.
04:23 Which country?
04:23 Are there multiple countries?
04:24 Totally lose respect for me.
04:25 Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
04:26 The Australian version.
04:27 There's only seven contestants.
04:28 Can I watch this?
04:29 There's only 10 people in the country.
04:31 Is that OK?
04:31 You can watch it.
04:32 Can I watch it?
04:33 What was your favorite kind of dance?
04:34 Because there's like different-- I've not seen it.
04:37 The samba.
04:37 Samba.
04:38 OK, cool.
04:39 And then the waltz.
04:40 I was really bad, but--
04:42 I'm really excited.
04:43 It gave me my finances to come to America.
04:47 It looks really scary, to be honest with you.
04:49 Like, I can imagine it's quite, like, stressful to go and perform in front of a bunch of people.
04:53 It was terrifying.
04:54 Yeah.
04:54 It was also terrifying for you to watch, probably.
04:56 I won't tell you when I watch it.
04:58 You won't be able to look away.
04:58 You'll just be like, no, no, no.
04:59 You'll show up, and I'll have a knowing look in my eye and be like, hi, Chris.
05:03 How high did you go on the show?
05:05 Fifth, I think.
05:07 That's good.
05:08 If I remember, it was fifth place.
05:09 That's good.
05:09 That was where I wanted to get.
05:10 I didn't want to get any higher.
05:11 I believe it.
05:12 I didn't want to upset anyone else, I felt, for the other contestants.
05:15 So it got to five, and I was like, I'm going to intentionally screw this up.
05:18 Yeah.
05:19 Who is Chris Hemsworth?
05:20 Related to-- I knew it would come up.
05:23 A lot of people.
05:23 I have two brothers, Luke and Liam.
05:26 Your parents?
05:26 My parents.
05:27 See, I didn't cry.
05:27 My kids.
05:29 Your children?
05:30 Yeah, my kids.
05:30 I've got cousins and grandparents.
05:32 This is a really wild question, this one.
05:34 Back to the dancing question.
05:35 Back to the dancing.
05:36 OK, and so, au revoir.
05:39 Taz, Anya, Taylor, Joy.
05:41 Yes.
05:42 Oh, God, I don't know.
05:43 Do you enjoy?
05:44 Sing in Last Night in Soho.
05:46 Yeah, I did.
05:47 Yeah, it was really fun.
05:49 I got to sing at a cappella in the movie, a beautiful song called Downtown.
05:53 And then Edgar had the mad idea to just bring me in and have me record a bunch of stuff.
05:58 And it was so much fun.
06:00 Anya, Taylor, Joy.
06:01 Imperative, Furiosa.
06:02 What's the question?
06:03 Yeah, it's already a question.
06:06 I will be playing her in a film that we are both in coming out May 23rd or May 24th, depending on
06:14 where you are.
06:15 That's right.
06:15 So, yeah.
06:16 Anya, Taylor, Joy, Super Mario.
06:18 I'm also in that one.
06:19 Yeah.
06:20 I'm Princess Peach.
06:21 Yes.
06:21 It was so much fun.
06:22 I actually, I got to go to Universal Studios the other day and bring a bunch of my friends
06:27 and family.
06:27 And that was really, really fun.
06:29 Do you like doing animation?
06:31 I do.
06:31 It's hard work.
06:33 Like, I was really surprised.
06:34 I think the first time I ever did animation, I threw up after the session because I'd just
06:38 been screaming for like seven hours.
06:41 Anya, Taylor, Joy, Jack Black.
06:43 I love him.
06:44 I very rarely get starstruck.
06:47 And he was just huge for me because I loved Tenacious D as a kid.
06:51 And so, like, I immediately just screamed, sang tribute at him.
06:55 And he was very cool about it.
06:57 I can't imagine someone coming up to me and just singing at me.
07:00 And so I think he was a really good sport about it.
07:01 He's awesome.
07:02 Like him a lot.
07:03 Good.
07:04 Thank you.
07:05 Are Chris Hemsworth eyes really that blue?
07:08 Yeah.
07:10 Yeah, they are.
07:11 Where is Limitless Chris Hemsworth filmed?
07:17 Mostly in Australia, some in America, and then Norway.
07:21 I really want to go to Norway.
07:22 Yeah.
07:23 I really want to go there.
07:24 Why is Chris Hemsworth not playing Thor anymore?
07:28 Because I'm playing Dementor, Simfuriosa.
07:30 Professional right there.
07:31 I've played Thor, what, eight times now, I think.
07:34 Loved every second of it.
07:35 And at the moment, enjoying doing other things.
07:38 And who knows what the future holds.
07:40 Is Chris Hemsworth going to play Hulk Hogan?
07:44 I'm fascinated.
07:44 So Todd Phillips and I were talking about this.
07:46 He was going to direct it.
07:47 I don't know where that's at, to be honest.
07:49 I don't know.
07:50 That's not in the immediate future.
07:52 But it was a discussion for a little while.
07:54 Hey, brother.
07:55 Yeah.
07:57 All right.
07:59 Let's go.
07:59 That's the same as Optimus Prime, isn't it?
08:01 Hey, here we go.
08:02 Final card.
08:04 All right, Anya Chather-Joy.
08:05 Who is Anya Chather-Joy in Peaky Blinders?
08:09 In Peaky Blinders, I am a real piece of work named Gina Gray.
08:14 And I get very weirdly embarrassed when people tell me that they really like me in Peaky Blinders
08:21 because she's awful.
08:22 I struggle watching me as Gina.
08:24 So when people are like, oh, you're great in that show.
08:26 I'm like, oh, god, you seem to be terrible to people.
08:28 No, it's cool, though.
08:29 That show is awesome.
08:30 Thanks.
08:30 It was.
08:31 It was really, really fun.
08:32 Yeah.
08:32 Here we go.
08:33 What languages does Anya Chather-Joy speak in The Northman?
08:39 Gosh, you're testing my memory here.
08:41 We created a form of old Slavic for me to be able to do spells and incantations in.
08:50 And it was really fun, but also pretty crazy because you would show up to set and just be
08:57 like screaming spells in a made-up language.
09:01 But I remember Ralph Einerson, who did The Witch with me, he was also on the boat where
09:05 I was doing my big one.
09:06 And I remember his eyes going like, oh, shit, get out of the way.
09:08 And I was like, yes.
09:09 I scared the big Yorkshire man.
09:11 Yeah, you guys have a good nod to the Nordic realm.
09:14 I chose to just do an Australian accent with a bit of an English twang to it because they
09:22 speak English in the clouds.
09:23 Yeah.
09:24 Is Anya Chather-Joy-- oh, come off it.
09:28 Dude.
09:30 This is not your game.
09:31 See, see, see.
09:32 I'm cheating.
09:32 In Dune 2.
09:35 I am.
09:36 I am in Dune 2.
09:37 And it was absolutely amazing.
09:40 It's probably one of the coolest shooting experiences I've ever had.
09:43 Yeah, it was a skeleton crew, Denis and I in the dunes in Namibia, and it was awesome.
09:49 I loved it.
09:50 Epic.
09:51 Thanks, love.
09:51 OK, what is Chris Hemsworth?
09:55 Max Bench?
09:55 Like Benchmast.
09:56 Oh, Max Bench.
09:58 Not very good, to be honest.
09:59 As in, it's OK, but I don't--
10:01 I don't buy it.
10:02 No, because I don't do a lot of accumulation of movement.
10:06 It's just time under tension, you know?
10:07 You've got a lot of push-ups.
10:09 30, 40 keg dumbbells, so 80.
10:12 Kind of my body weight, I guess.
10:13 What is Chris Hemsworth's favourite song?
10:16 Ah.
10:17 What's your favourite song, Ben?
10:18 I would just go favourite album.
10:21 How about Dan Morrison, Poetic Champions.
10:23 Nice.
10:24 Yep.
10:26 Or Jeff Buckley, Live at Sine.
10:28 Wow.
10:29 What?
10:29 The Teske Brothers, Crying Shame.
10:32 Very impressive.
10:33 The Teske Brothers, yeah.
10:34 Nice.
10:34 What's your favourite album?
10:36 I can't ever answer that question.
10:38 It's like when someone says favourite film, I just get very deer in the headlights and go,
10:42 "Uh, uh, uh."
10:43 And like, rattle off something with animals in it.
10:45 What tattoos does Chris Hemsworth have?
10:47 I've got a Dr. Seuss tattoo up here.
10:49 My daughter, I used to read this book to her, Oh, The Places You'll Go.
10:53 I love that book.
10:54 And then I got the tattoo.
10:55 And then I kind of got sick of the tattoo years later, and I started getting it removed.
10:58 And then she's like, "Dad, what are you doing?
11:00 Where's he going?"
11:00 And I was like, "Oh, I was going to get it rubbed off."
11:02 And she said, "No, leave it."
11:03 So it stayed there.
11:04 These, my daughter drew.
11:06 I was actually up with a friend one night.
11:09 She woke up, it's like 11 o'clock.
11:10 She's, "Dad, Dad, I can't sleep."
11:11 Sat on my lap and started drawing some things.
11:13 And these were the things she drew.
11:15 That's beautiful.
11:16 And someone else who was sitting there was like, "Oh, do you know, that's the wheel of Dharma.
11:19 That's the, in Hindu, well, it means many things in different spaces, but the male and
11:23 female union initials of my family."
11:25 And that's it.
11:27 Very nice.
11:27 Okay.
11:28 Last one.
11:29 What age did Chris Hemsworth start acting?
11:32 I think my first job, I would have been 18 when I was in high school.
11:35 Yeah, same.
11:36 I was, I did drama class, got kicked out of drama class a lot.
11:39 Why?
11:40 What'd you do?
11:40 You know, I couldn't sit still.
11:42 And I just wanted to play.
11:44 I wanted to have fun.
11:45 Anyway, then when I finished school, I started, I did an acting course and started auditioning
11:50 and got my first job.
11:51 I played King Arthur.
11:53 I was basically an extra and this like red wig and I didn't have any dialogue, but I
11:58 was King Arthur.
11:58 But you wore a crown.
11:59 I wore a crown and a long wig.
12:01 Dick.
12:01 All right.
12:02 I think that's us done.
12:03 I have Googled myself, but it is never a good idea.
12:08 I sort of operate with someone will tell me if I need to know.
12:12 And then you try not to read the reviews and things.
12:14 And someone goes, it's often my dad too.
12:16 I'm like, dad, just, I don't want to know.
12:18 I don't have to say, oh, could you believe what they said?
12:20 Yeah, but that's dad's.
12:21 Yeah.
12:21 So if you're watching, Dad, stop it.
12:23 (upbeat music)
