00:00Six months after Matthew Perry's tragic passing, the LAPD and the DEA have launched a joint criminal investigation surrounding his death.
00:08According to the actor's autopsy, the beloved Friends star died on October 28th at age 54 from the acute effects of anesthetic ketamine.
00:16The autopsy also listed drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine
00:22used to treat opioid addiction as contributing factors to his death.
00:26It was ruled an accident at the time with no signs of foul play.
00:30But now the Los Angeles Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration
00:33are investigating how the actor came to have so much of the drug in his system and possession in general.
00:39Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy, which is said to help with depression, anxiety,
00:45PTSD, drug and alcohol problems, chronic pain, and more. His last session had been a week and a half before he died.
00:52According to the autopsy, the ketamine in his system at death could not be from that infusion therapy
00:57since ketamine's half-life is three to four hours or less.
01:00The star had been candid about undergoing ketamine therapy in his memoir,
01:04Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, writing,
01:06I often thought that I was dying during that hour.
01:09Oh, I thought this is what happens when you die.
01:11Yet I would continually sign up for this shit because it was something different and anything different is good.
