00:00 The Liberal Democrats have raised concerns with TfL about the poor performance of the tram network in recent months.
00:05 What are you doing to improve reliability on that service?
00:08 Well, Sarah Jones, the local member of parliament, was in touch with me a couple of weeks ago
00:12 explaining to me the consequences of the debris being caught on the wheels causing problems.
00:17 My understanding of it when I looked into this was the company that runs the trams took these trams off,
00:23 out of service to repair the wheels which were damaged by the debris.
00:27 The good news is those trams are back in circulation and when I checked yesterday
00:31 my understanding was a good service is running in Croydon.
00:34 But I'll be meeting again with Sarah Jones to discuss these issues because it's not good enough for the residents there.
00:39 But you know the trams is often for many families the only decent public transport they have
00:44 and many have had to wait a long time to get a decent tram and so you know we're going to make sure
00:48 we speak to the company to make sure that there's proper maintenance to make sure
00:52 trams aren't taking out service because of damage to wheels.
00:54 It's also thought that the age of some of the trams is an issue.
00:57 The fact that some of them have been in service since 2000 and there have reportedly been delays in getting that rolling stock replaced.
01:03 What explains that?
01:06 I'm not sure about the rolling stock issue but I'm happy to look into that.
01:09 What I do know is that we're speaking to the company that runs the trams to make sure
01:13 these sorts of issues don't happen again.
