00:00 Without objection, the gentleman is recognized for one minute.
00:03 Thank you, Madam Chair.
00:05 California's ag sector is a powerhouse, contributing over $50 billion to the economy and all these
00:11 amazing food products for U.S. consumers.
00:15 Since we produce so many of these fruits and vegetables, 90-plus percent, it's a key element.
00:20 And so our nation's consumer base really depends on a strong farm bill for the products that
00:25 come from California and all over the country.
00:28 So in a week, the House Ag Committee will hold a vote on this year's farm bill.
00:31 I can say from personal experience, the committee has spent countless hours going around the
00:36 country listening to people and taking into account all the things it takes to make our
00:41 food supply strong and a domestic supply.
00:46 It aligns our farm safety net with the needs of producers as well as folks in need.
00:51 The incentive for conservation and market access are all elements of that.
00:56 I also have the privilege of chairing the Subcommittee on Forestry.
00:59 We're focused on making our forests safer from devastating fire, as we've experienced
01:05 in Northern California, to the loss of many lives, as well as my dear friend, Representative
01:09 Takuda, in Hawaii with Lahaina.
01:12 We have to do much better on making our communities and our lands fire safe from unnecessary loss
01:19 of life and unnecessary damage.
01:20 So the farm bill is going to be a big element going forward and improving upon that situation.
01:26 So I look forward to a positive vote and success next week.
01:28 I yield back.
01:29 Yeah, the gentleman's time has expired.
01:31 For what purpose does the gentleman from California seek recognition?
01:33 We ask unanimous consent to address the House.
