Cash, card or mobile?

How do you usually pay for things in 2024? Leeds locals discuss their preferred method of making payments.

00:00I think cash is the most pointless thing in society, if I'm honest.

00:03Now with everything being digital, everything's online, you don't really need cash.

00:07Most likely it leads to money laundering, fraud and all these kind of things.

00:12If everyone's got a legitimate income, it should be shown, it should be transacted, everything's fair.

00:16I feel like the odd time it's handy if I've got cash.

00:20Definitely the pound for the shopping trolleys is a thing.

00:26It's kind of the only reason that I need a pound on me at all times.

00:30Other than that, yeah, I always use my phone actually to pay with a contactless card.

00:35Honestly, I prefer cart, especially like we've got Apple Pay now, it's much easier.

00:39So I don't have to take out my wallet from my bag.

00:42And I mean, personally, paying cash, you don't really have to think about it

00:45because you won't get a notification or you just paid something.

00:49But personally, cart, it's much more convenient.

00:52Also, I'll say it's cleaner.

00:55I really want to start using cash more because I know that it's aiming for a cashless society

00:59and I don't really want it to go that way because then people have got less control over the money.

01:04So yes, I do definitely use my card more, but I am going to try and start using cash more.

01:09I don't really use cash anymore.

01:11I carry a small amount of cash just in case it's ever needed.

01:14But it's very rare.

01:17I actually prefer Apple Pay to physical cards.

01:20I think it's safer.

01:22You're not going to lose your card or have them stolen.

01:24I really like cash.

01:25I quite like the tangible element of having coins and cash.

01:31But I think that having, you know, contactless and card is a lot more,

01:35it's a lot quicker, it's a lot more efficient.

01:36I do think there's still a need for cash generally.

01:40And I understand a lot of people rely on cash.

01:43And there was a thing where to save money,

01:47you take out the amount, the specific amount of cash that you have

01:51and want to spend that week or two weeks.

01:53And then you're kind of limited to that rather than it's very,

01:57you can just spend away on your card.
