00:00Meet at Famous Blonde, a creator who's working with others to sue the United States government
00:05over the TikTok ban.
00:07So what does a TikTok ban actually mean?
00:10The measure approved by Congress in April of 2024 requires TikTok's parent company,
00:15ByteDance, to sell TikTok to a domestic entity within nine months.
00:20The ban has caused outrage among TikTok's 143 million US users, especially those who
00:26are creators themselves and have built careers on the platform.
00:30This is part of the reason why creator Kira Spann, better known as Famous Blonde, is joining
00:35other creators in suing the US government.
00:38But that's not the only reason.
00:40Spann uses her platform to advocate for survivors of sexual abuse and spread awareness, and
00:45in doing so, has cultivated a community on TikTok.
00:49In a video posted last week, Spann explains how and why she and fellow creators are suing
00:54for violation of First Amendment rights.
00:56A little less than an hour ago, myself and seven other petitioners, all US creators,
01:01filed a lawsuit against the US Attorney General in regards to the TikTok ban that was passed
01:06a little less than a month ago for infringing upon our First Amendment rights.
01:10Am I creator and do I make a living off of this app?
01:13Yes.
01:14And is that important to me?
01:15Absolutely.
01:16But for me, being a part of this lawsuit was never a question, because I am fighting for
01:20my community that I have worked for four years to create on here.
01:24This affects every single American that cares about free speech and their First Amendment
01:28rights.
