00:00 Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we are juicing up the angry parents of the gaming world by
00:16 exploring 20 shocking GTA moments.
00:19 This wasn't a tough list to build because whether it shocked players, parents or the
00:23 world, GTA has proven to be a controversial game for non-gamers and a gripping narrative
00:27 for gamers.
00:28 Let's take a trip down memory lane.
00:31 Before we continue, we publish content all week long so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:35 the bell to get notified of our latest videos.
00:39 Darko
00:50 Grand Theft Auto 4 has plenty of shocking moments, so expect to hear from it a lot on
00:55 this list.
00:56 In a pivotal moment when Darko, the man Niko has spent the entire narrative trying to find,
01:00 is delivered to Niko, crippled and broken by years of substance abuse, players are confronted
01:05 with a profound decision, whether or not to end his life.
01:08 Opting to do so, Niko executes Darko with 12 deliberate shots, each representing a lost
01:13 friend, a casualty of Darko's betrayal.
01:16 This somber sequence stands out as one of the franchises most emotional and intense
01:20 moments.
01:21 I for one wish we could have added a couple extra bullets, just for a laugh.
01:29 Full Frontal
01:30 Remember when I said we'd seen a lot of GTA 4?
01:45 Well eventually we'll move on, but let's keep going for now.
01:48 Continuing their trend of pushing boundaries, Grand Theft Auto 4 The Lost in the Damned
01:52 DLC introduced a unique form of nudity.
01:55 However it wasn't the typical glamorous portrayal, instead it centered around Tom Stubbs, a middle-aged
02:00 congressman.
02:01 In a scene titled "Politics", Johnny encounters Stubbs at a massage parlor, where Stubbs delivers
02:06 a speech while completely nude.
02:08 Despite being the first game DLC to feature detailed male genitalia, it didn't generate
02:13 the anticipated buzz, which actually works in the game's favor, as it remains a surprising
02:18 moment catching many off guard.
02:20 It caught me off guard, that's for sure, but I sometimes catch myself off guard in the
02:23 mirror so bad example.
02:26 Ladies of the Night
02:27 Now, we're choosing to say Ladies of the Night so we don't get demonetized, but I assume
02:31 you know what we're all referring to.
02:32 Although it's now considered common knowledge, when GTA 3 initially launched, parents and
02:36 guardians were genuinely taken aback by the game's portrayal of interactions with prostitutes.
02:42 Reflecting the gritty underworld of Liberty City, the game included these elements intentionally.
02:47 Players could engage with certain scantily clad women who would then enter the vehicle
02:51 in exchange for payment.
02:53 While there was no explicit nudity depicted in the crude animations, players were left
02:56 to imagine what happened inside the bouncing vehicle.
03:00 Alarmingly, some discovered that they could reclaim their money by simply running over
03:03 the ladies with their vehicle after they exited.
03:06 Not me, I would never.
03:07 Ok, I did it, but just for science.
03:10 Trevor's Lifestyle
03:11 Have you ever spent time around someone whose lifestyle is so upsettingly dark and depressing
03:22 that it actually makes you sad?
03:24 Well, Trevor.
03:26 Trevor epitomizes the most extreme, destructive tendencies of a GTA character, amplified by
03:31 his addiction to methamphetamine.
03:34 While it's easy to imagine what the lifestyle of a raging meth addict would be like, the
03:38 reality is even more repulsive.
03:40 Its home is a decrepit trailer filled top to toe with mould, used syringes, condoms,
03:45 pizza remnants, spoiled food and empty beer cans.
03:48 The walls serve as a canvas for provocative posters likely affixed with who knows what
03:52 substance.
03:53 Do you want to know what substance?
03:54 I'll spell it out for you.
03:56 See you…
03:57 I'll stop.
03:58 Free Dumb.
03:59 What's this jerk think he's doing?
04:08 Hey Mitch, can you find out what this guy's up to?
04:11 Nico Bellic shares similarities with CJ from Grand Theft Auto San Andres in terms of moral
04:16 integrity.
04:17 He too grapples with ethical dilemmas and occasionally confronts regret over his criminal
04:21 deeds.
04:22 One such regrettable act is likely the assassination of Aiden O'Malley during the Tunnel of Death
04:27 mission.
04:28 O'Malley, who believes he'd escaped in prison and after Nico intercepts his transfer, experiences
04:33 a fleeting moment of freedom before meeting his demise.
04:36 Witnessing the despair in O'Malley's eyes as his newfound liberty is brutally snatched
04:40 away creates a poignant scene that is bound to weigh heavily on Nico's conscience.
04:44 The sea air, I really am free.
04:47 I could cry.
04:49 You've made me a happy man boys.
04:51 Now it's time to tell me who asked you to do this.
04:55 Name Derek McCreary ring any bells?
04:58 Yo, send him packing.
05:00 F***ing Derek McF***er.
05:02 Executed.
05:08 Hey, man this is getting out of control.
05:10 The police are all over me.
05:12 I can feel them.
05:13 You won't encounter many human beings on this planet as sanctimonious as Manny Escuela.
05:18 Presenting himself as a reformed gangster, Manny dedicates himself to unveiling the illicit
05:22 activities of the streets under the reasoning of safeguarding children.
05:26 Initially commendable, his true motive soon becomes apparent, fame.
05:30 This realisation tarnishes his image, Manny's relentless pursuit of celebrity ultimately
05:34 leads to his downfall.
05:36 When he and his cameraman Jay intrude into Elisabetta Torres' apartment, intending to
05:41 expose her operations, Elisabetta, fuelled by drugs and paranoia swiftly eliminates them
05:46 both with gunshots to the head.
05:48 The suddenness of their demise leaves little room for processing their deaths, and it's
05:52 honestly one of her finest moments.
05:55 Boom boom bye.
05:56 Hey, Nico!
05:57 What are you doing here?
06:02 Headbanger.
06:03 Hey.
06:04 Oh, great.
06:05 PM's pushing for more functionality, but we are maxed.
06:12 I mean if anything we have to strip features, especially if we plan on releasing a fully
06:16 devised update a year later.
06:18 Grand Theft Auto V has its share of plot driven "woah" moments, and one that stands out
06:22 for me is the demise of Life Invader CEO Jay Norris.
06:26 Lester tasks Michael with a covert operation, infiltrating Life Invader headquarters under
06:31 the guise of an employee, locate a prototype phone, place a small device in it and leave.
06:36 The mission appears tame compared to the typical Grand Theft Auto standards, however the true
06:40 severity unfolds post mission.
06:43 Michael's assignment extends beyond acquisition, he's instructed to watch Norris' press conference
06:47 on TV, and subsequently call a number.
06:50 Following lengthy dialogue, the pivotal moment arrives, the phone detonates, instantly claiming
06:55 Norris' life, with a blast to the brain that belongs on a back alley gore death website.
07:00 Wild stuff.
07:01 This has never thought of.
07:02 Hold on a sec.
07:03 I think someone's trying to talk with me.
07:04 Hello?
07:05 Oh!
07:06 Security!
07:07 Oh Jesus!
07:08 Burying Alive.
07:09 What's all that damn clatter?
07:10 For a GTA protagonist, the task of knocking down a portable toilet may seem routine.
07:20 It's one part push, two parts run, however the game takes a darker turn, escalating the
07:24 activity with a beautiful dosing of death and looking the other way.
07:28 Remember earlier when I said CJ and Nico shared a similar moral balance?
07:31 I've changed my mind.
07:34 Instead of merely toppling the structure, players are compelled to bury the foreman
07:37 alive in cement while he remains trapped inside the portable toilet.
07:41 Among all the casualties and collateral damage caused by CJ, this unfortunate individual
07:46 likely endures the most harrowing fate, facing a slow, suffocating and odorous demise.
07:52 Covered in poopy.
07:54 Johnny Klebitz.
07:55 Johnny, the formidable biker, was once revered as both a formidable foe and a captivating
08:00 lead character.
08:01 However, in the era of GTA V, it appeared as if Johnny underwent a profound transformation,
08:06 emerging as an entirely different individual.
08:09 The introduction of Trevor coincided with Johnny's unexpected appearance, immediately
08:13 raising suspicions.
08:15 It becomes evident that Johnny has succumbed to a severe methamphetamine addiction.
08:19 His screen time is fleeting, lasting merely two minutes, culminating in a shocking and
08:23 perplexing scene where Trevor violently assaults him, leaving audiences stunned by the abrupt
08:28 twist of fate.
08:29 It was shocking to see how quickly a fan favourite could disappear, driving home how terrifying
08:34 Trevor actually is.
08:37 Bye Bye Dom.
08:38 Who would have thought a simple Strangers and Freaks mission would hide such a shocking
08:42 moment?
08:43 Not me.
08:44 The missions serve as a gateway to various eccentric personalities, engaging players
08:48 in interactive encounters that often unfold into intriguing narratives.
08:52 Among these personas is Dom Beasley, an adrenaline enthusiast who crosses paths with Franklin
08:57 during the game.
08:58 Dom's ventures range from dirt biking to skydiving, showcasing his fearless spirit.
09:03 Yet, just when you believe he has mastered it all, Dom meets a tragic end, plunging off
09:08 the Land Act Dam without a parachute.
09:10 I mean, that'll do it.
09:26 Hot Coffee
09:27 Hot Coffee is a colloquial term for a mini-game originally intended to be inaccessible within
09:32 Grand Theft Auto San Andres.
09:34 That was until modders found the files hidden within the game's data, and created one
09:38 of the more controversial GTA moments we've ever seen.
09:41 This controversial feature depicted a roughly animated sexual encounter between the protagonist
09:45 Carl Johnson and one of his romantic partners.
09:48 The name Hot Coffee stemmed from the concept that the mini-game would commence when CJ's
09:52 girlfriend invited him inside for a cup of coffee.
09:55 A little Netflix and chill if you will.
09:58 Molly Schultz's Death
09:59 Molly's demise in GTA V is shockingly brutal.
10:14 In a frantic chase, Michael pursues her as she flees onto the airport runway.
10:18 In a tragic accident, Molly veers directly into the path of a jet engine instantly being
10:22 shredded into pieces by the powerful turbines.
10:25 This scene unfolds in a horrifying display of violence, leaving players stunned by the
10:29 sudden and graphic end to Molly's character.
10:32 Graphic yep, shocking you betcha.
10:43 Floyd and Deborah
10:44 Uh oh, Trevor's back.
10:51 After crushing the home of Floyd and Deborah, an admittedly awful couple yes, but generally
10:56 innocent law-abiding people, Trevor faces them finally, and violently.
11:02 As tensions escalate, what initially appears as a routine domestic disagreement quickly
11:06 spirals into a tense standoff in the living room involving Floyd, Deborah and Trevor.
11:11 Trevor, visibly displeased, reaches a breaking point.
11:14 The scene abruptly fades to black, leaving viewers in suspense.
11:18 Moments later, Trevor emerges from the apartment stained with Floyd and Deborah's blood, leaving
11:22 audiences bewildered by the sudden turn of events and questioning the outcome of the
11:26 intense confrontation.
11:40 Louise Cassidy Williams
11:42 Most people you encounter in the Grand Theft Auto universe are heightened versions of the
11:56 worst of humanity, and in a world filled with unsavory characters, Louise stands out as
12:00 someone deserving of empathy.
12:03 As a single mother striving to provide for her family and her baby, she garnered sympathy
12:07 from players.
12:08 However, when she falls victim to Jerry Martinez's kidnapping, her fate takes a bleak turn.
12:14 The next time we encounter Louise, she lies battered and wounded on the floor pleading
12:17 with Vic to ensure the welfare of her child before it's too late.
12:21 This shocking moment is devoid of comical overtones or any light-hearted relief.
12:25 It's brutal and shocking and hard to forget.
12:35 Cuban-Haitian gang wars
12:37 In November 2003, civil rights organizations representing Cuban-American and Haitian-American
12:42 communities in Florida publicly denounced Vice City.
12:46 They argued that the gang encouraged violence against immigrants from these nations.
12:50 Initially, Rockstar Games headquarters in New York City stood firm, however former New
12:54 York City Mayor Bloomberg's statement changed the course.
12:58 He condemned the gang, stating "This type of hate has no place in our city."
13:02 Consequently, Vice City was withdrawn from modifications.
13:05 Mayor Bloomberg urged the Human Rights Commission to halt its investigation until the gang was
13:09 revised, emphasizing the importance of repairing relations with the vibrant Haitian community.
13:15 Trevor's death
13:16 Following the final heist in the game, Franklin faces a pivotal decision, to eliminate Trevor,
13:29 Michael or their betrayers.
13:31 Opting for the latter is often deemed the preferred outcome, however choosing Trevor's
13:35 demise results in one of the series' most harrowing deaths.
13:39 After an intense car pursuit, Michael deliberately collides with Trevor's vehicle, sending it
13:43 careening into a gas tanker.
13:45 Fatally wounded and soaked in gasoline, Trevor futilely crawls, berating his former allies
13:50 with their treachery.
13:51 Finally, Franklin or Michael ignites the gas, incinerating Trevor as he writhes in agonizing
13:57 torment.
14:05 The Red Wedding
14:17 Not only is this one of the more shocking moments in GTA history, but one of the saddest
14:21 too.
14:22 In the mission One Last Thing, Nico faces a pivotal decision, to accept a deal with
14:26 Dmitri Raskolov or reject it.
14:28 Each choice leads to one of two outcomes, Roman's death or Kate's death following
14:33 Roman's wedding.
14:34 Both fatalities occur abruptly, undoubtedly shocking players unaware of the potential
14:39 consequences.
14:40 Despite ultimately achieving revenge, Nico is left with a bitter outcome regardless of
14:44 the path taken.
14:45 This scenario stands as a poignant example of the impact of choice-driven storytelling
14:49 in video games, resonating as one of the most compelling instances of multiple endings.
15:10 Killing Michael
15:18 Among all the characters in GTA V, Michael emerges as one of the most internally conflicted
15:22 yet ultimately sympathetic figures.
15:24 His humour is perfectly balanced with gripping gravitas.
15:28 This complexity likely dissuades many players from selecting the final mission option of
15:32 killing him, however for those who did opt for this path, the experience proved intense.
15:37 Franklin, who Michael views as a surrogate son, is tasked with carrying out the grim
15:42 deed.
15:43 Despite the emotional stakes, Michael submits to his fate without much resistance, meeting
15:47 a tragic end.
15:49 Even if players have a change of heart at the 11th hour, the outcome remains unchanged
15:53 as Michael resigns himself to his perceived betrayal by Franklin.
16:08 The Greensaber
16:09 Grand Theft Auto San Andres has a narrative that truly blows up, expanding beyond the
16:19 homegrown vibe it begins with.
16:21 After beginning the game bonding with your former gang members, we move into a pivotal
16:25 moment within GTA San Andres.
16:27 CJ uncovers a monumental betrayal among the Grove Street families during the Greensaber
16:32 mission.
16:33 Shockingly, the traitor is none other than Big Smoke, his mentor and guide, revealing
16:37 a betrayal far greater than CJ anticipated.
16:40 Not only did Smoke betray Grove Street, but he also committed the heinous act of murdering
16:45 CJ's suite and Kendall's mother, the revered matriarch of Grove Street.
16:55 Playable Torture
16:56 In Grand Theft Auto 5, players assume the role of Trevor, tasked with extracting information
17:01 from Mr. K regarding an Azerbaijani fugitive who poses a threat to the FBI.
17:06 For those unfamiliar with GTA's satirical take on American culture, it's important to
17:09 note that the game often delves into societal commentary.
17:13 Unfortunately, this minigame highlights a disturbing reality.
17:16 The torture techniques utilised by Trevor are reminiscent of methods still employed
17:20 by the FBI to interrogate prisoners today.
