Transcript
00:00 I'm at the Adyhat Stadium where I'm shouting to make myself heard because Manchester City have once again become Premier League champions beating West Ham here today 3-1 and in doing so bringing a new English top flight record.
00:14 City become the first ever team to win four consecutive titles. They didn't have things all their own way today. They did score two early goals from Phil Poulton and you thought it was going to be a bit of a walk in the park from there.
00:26 But West Ham responded with an overhead kick from Mohamed Kudus and actually the atmosphere dropped a little bit out of half time but Rodger's goal in the 59th minute meant that there was no real jeopardy in the last half an hour of the game.
00:38 City actually played really well like they did in the encounter. Some fantastic performances from the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Moulden again. What a superb performance from him to come. What a magnificent season. Won two of the three individual player of the season awards. I think he probably collected the third one. He has just been outstanding this season and a fitting way for him to end this campaign.
01:02 De Bruyne was excellent, Rodger, Doku in the left wing. And from City's perspective, what an incredible achievement. Four titles in a row, you go through the pantheons of unbelievable managers who have managed in England. Ferguson, Shankly, Fenger, all these sorts of managers never achieved what Guardiola has achieved in this Manchester City side.
01:26 It really is an astonishing achievement to have that level of consistency year after year after year to keep going. And they are going to be remembered in the history books forever. Certain players, the likes of De Bruyne, Silva, Stones, Walker, there's a few more who have won all four. They will be talked about for years and years. I think really some of the greatest players that we've seen in English football history.
01:51 And then in terms of the other results today, we did know that Arsenal could have upset things. They actually were winning from fairly early in the afternoon. It wasn't until the 89th minute that Arsenal went 2-1 ahead against Everton. So if City would have slipped up, Arsenal would have won the title. I think they've been fantastic in the second half of the season. They've won this 16 out of 18 to finish the season.
02:13 Unbelievable coming from them. So consistent from them and still they couldn't pit City to the top spot. City finished the campaign with nine consecutive league wins. An unbelievable record for them. To close out well it's been a fantastic season. There is of course one more game left to play for Guardiola's side at Wembley next week where they could become the first ever team to win back-to-back doubles. Just another record for Guardiola and this City team to polish off.
02:38 But today they're certainly enjoying themselves. As you can see behind me, the players are all still on the pitch. The majority of fans have left now. It's been quite a while actually since Kyle Walker lifted that trophy above his head, becoming the fourth Manchester City captain to lift the trophy after Vincent Company, Bernardinho and Ilkay Gundogan. Fans have mainly left at this stage but many of the players and their families who are here. I think there will be plenty of champagne drank tonight and plenty of celebrations here in Manchester on what has been a superb afternoon for Manchester City.
03:07 for Manchester City.
