00:00 Merry Christmas everyone, peace on Earth and goodwill to all men except the men who fired
00:06 Keith Lee.
00:07 You're getting a lump of coal in a stocking, by which I mean I'm going to put a lump
00:10 of coal in a stocking and come swinging for you in the night.
00:13 As we approach the end of the year here at WrestleTalk and partsFUNknown, we're going
00:16 to be looking back over the past 12 months, looking at the terrifying lows, the dizzying
00:21 highs and the creamy middles from the pro wrestling biz.
00:24 We're talking favourite matches, least favourite matches and everything in between, starting
00:28 with an old standard, the biggest injuries we saw happen live.
00:31 Reminder, this is all about live injuries, so no Sami Callihan ankle, incredibly gross
00:36 though it may be.
00:37 No whatever incredibly suspicious injury Samoa Joe apparently suffered the day before NXT's
00:42 rebrand and none of that kayfabe stuff.
00:44 No Seth Rollins did not nearly kill Edge, do not even.
00:47 Let's look at all the times wrestlers were decked harder than the halls this year.
00:51 I'm Adam Hailing from partsFUNknown and here are 10 insane injuries we saw happen
00:55 live in 2021.
00:58 Also if you like this list, please consider liking and subscribing.
01:02 That can be your Christmas present to us.
01:05 Thank you.
01:06 Merry Christmas.
01:07 10.
01:08 Natalya's Leg
01:09 Is there a championship more dead in the water right now than the WWE Women's Tag Team
01:13 Championships?
01:14 Even the NXT Women's Tag Team Championships belong to a faction WWE are trying to make
01:18 into a big deal.
01:19 The main roster women's belts have been aimlessly traded like Caterpie Pokemon cards.
01:23 Ain't no one need another f*cking Caterpie in their collection.
01:27 To give you an idea of how much WWE did not care about the titles, how's this story?
01:31 Natalya suffered an injury on Raw on July 26th in a match pitting Natty and Tamina vs
01:36 Doudrop and Eva Marie.
01:38 Natalya and Doudrop were chain wrestling when the former Piper Niven rolled over Natty's
01:41 leg in a roll-up style maneuver.
01:43 Following the move, Natalya is seen limping and an audible is called with Doudrop walking
01:47 away from her to let her tag out after which medics rushed to Natty and helped her to the
01:51 back.
01:52 Despite Natalya going in for surgery, the belts weren't mentioned on TV, because no
01:56 one could give a genuine sh*t about the white and gold hubcaps.
02:00 9.
02:01 Miz's ACL
02:02 What a year for product placement it's been, from the vaguely rock-flavored Pizza Hut crap
02:06 Stravaganza at Survivor Series, to the second worst egg to ever feature at Survivor Series,
02:11 to whatever that weird water thing was at SummerSlam.
02:14 Thanks, Nestle.
02:15 And then there's this.
02:17 To promote sh*t film Army of the Dead, WWE aired a Lumberjack match at WrestleMania Backlash
02:22 between Miz and Damian Priest, where the Lumberjacks were zombies and it aged me by at least five
02:28 years.
02:29 Worst of all, during that match, The Miz suffered the first major injury of his entire career,
02:34 when Damian Priest mistimed a top rope roundhouse kick to Miz, landing on The A-Lister's legs,
02:39 tearing his left ACL.
02:40 Miz finished the match, because he's great, lost, and then had to suffer the indignity
02:44 of being air quotes "eaten" by amdramdeddos while lying there in considerable pain.
02:51 Not like this.
02:52 Not like this.
02:53 8.
02:54 MVP's Knee
02:55 The Hurt Business are great.
02:56 Despite WWE's recent treatment of one of the most dapper factions in recent history,
03:00 Seth can call himself the Dripfather all he wants.
03:03 MVP is the best dressed man on WWE TV, fact.
03:06 In 2021, the man even added a cane to his wrestling executive realness, made it look
03:11 good cause of course he did, although the reason for its appearance was a full shoot.
03:15 On the 15th of February episode of Raw, MVP injured his knee in a six-man tag featuring
03:19 Hurt Business vs Lucha House Party and Riddle.
03:22 Late in the match, MVP is knocked onto the floor outside by Riddle, blowing out his knee.
03:26 He re-enters the ring, runs and hits a clothesline to Riddle, and you can immediately see he's
03:30 hurt his own business, favouring the leg and hobbling through the rest of the match.
03:34 MVP was finally written off TV for knee surgery six whole months later after an RKO from Orton
03:40 air quotes "broke MVP's ribs".
03:43 7.
03:44 Humberto's Leg
03:45 Humberto Carrillo didn't just have his surname amputated this year, the cheeky funster also
03:48 went to war, with Sheamus trading injuries like Caterpie Pokemon cards.
03:52 Seriously, get the f*** out of my deck, you useless leopardocter.
03:56 The first injury was something that ended up looking a lot more scary than it actually
03:59 ended up being, which is good cause it looked really quite scary indeed.
04:02 On the 10th of May episode of Raw, the former Carrillo set Sheamus up for a Sunset Flip
04:06 Powerbomb to the outside, however the move was mistimed and instead of landing between
04:10 Humberto's legs, the Celtic Warrior landed flush on Carrillo's left leg.
04:14 In a somewhat rare move, Humberto signalled to the referee that he wasn't able to continue,
04:19 which is a completely fair thing to do if a giant Irishman lands on your leg, by the
04:23 way, leading to the match being prematurely called off.
04:26 Thankfully the injury wasn't as serious as it first appeared, and Humberto was cleared
04:29 to wrestle later that month, although maybe Sheamus wishes he hadn't.
04:33 6.
04:34 Sheamus' Nose
04:35 You know who's had a rubbish 2021?
04:37 Sheamus' snoot.
04:38 The man's been rocking the Trish Stratus facial covering for most of the year based
04:42 on an injury that occurred on the 31st of May episode of Raw.
04:45 Humberto Carrillo and Sheamus had their second match in their ill-fated series, and things
04:49 seemed to be going a lot smoother until an errant forearm from Humberto smashed Sheamu
04:53 across the face, immediately and visibly breaking his Irish nose.
04:57 Sheamus finished the match despite his schnoz being in a different zip code to the rest
05:01 of him, and he was placed in the face mask to prevent further injury.
05:04 Naturally, further injury occurred four months later in a match against Jeff Hardy on the
05:08 September 20th episode of Raw, after Sheamus ripped off his own face mask - shouldn't
05:12 have done that - for Hardy rebounded off the ropes to hit him with another, errant forearm
05:17 to the face, and Sheamus falls immediately, clutching his re-broken nose, presumably whispering
05:22 to himself "for f***s sake" but in an Irish accent that I'm not going to attempt.
05:27 5.
05:28 Zoe Stark's ACL
05:29 It's been a bad few years for people with the name Stark.
05:32 First Tony died, now this.
05:34 Zoe Stark was on something of a meteoric rise in NXT for the past 12 months, impressing
05:38 against stars like Tony Storm and Io Shirai, with the latter becoming her sort of maybe
05:42 best friend kind of.
05:43 At Halloween Havoc, the first major show under the wonky NXT 2.0 umbrella - which is not
05:48 the kind of umbrella you want to be caught in a storm with as it has foundational problems
05:52 - Stark and Shirai lost their titles in a Stairway to Hell match, which is a ladder
05:56 match if you don't speak NXT 2.0, and it turns out Zoe might have lost a bunch more
06:00 than that, confirming after the match she tore her ACL and meniscus.
06:03 There are two points in the match that could have happened.
06:05 Early on Zoe falls from the ladder, lands on the top rope and leaps to the outside.
06:09 She's seen limping slightly after that move, and if she wasn't hurt then, she f***ing
06:13 definitely was later on when she missed a Phoenix Splash, landing awkwardly on her legs
06:17 before hitting the ladder.
06:18 F***ing ouch.
06:19 And speaking of bad times for Starks...
06:22 4.
06:23 Ricky Stark's Neck and Lance Archer's Neck
06:24 I've put these two injuries together as they're similar enough that that's not
06:28 to diminish either individually, as bloody hell these both could have gone a lot worse.
06:32 On the April 21st edition of Dynamite, Ricky Stark's injured his neck when a German suplex
06:36 from Hangman Page dumped him scarily on his head.
06:39 Though it was initially thought Stark's had escaped injury, it crept up on him, costing
06:42 him three months of ring time.
06:44 Even more recently, however, on the 23rd October episode of Dynamite, Lance Archer wrestled
06:48 Eddie Kingston in the AEW title tournament, when the Murderhawk under-rotated during a
06:52 moonsault, landing on his head and injuring his neck, before the cameras immediately cut
06:56 to Tony Nese's reaction in the crowd, which is a weird thing for the cameras to have done.
07:00 Tony Khan confirmed in a media scrum a few weeks later that Archer had twisted his neck,
07:04 but was doing good.
07:05 Thank God, because yikes.
07:07 3.
07:08 Asuka's Teeth
07:09 And speaking of f***ing yikes, Britt Baker might be wrestling's resident dentist, but
07:13 if you're strapped for cash, Shayna Baszler will do the job quicker and cheaper, except
07:17 she'll do it with her f***ing foot, oh no.
07:19 Asuka's been off our screens ever since Money in the Bank, with an arm injury?
07:23 Or not, it's actually quite confusing, but she did surface on Twitter in August to post
07:27 about getting new teeth.
07:28 Why did she need new teeth?
07:29 Well, that'd be because in a tag match on the February 22nd episode of Raw, pitting
07:32 Charlotte and Asuka against Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler, DMD, the Empress of Tomorrow had
07:37 Jax locked in an armbar when the Queen of Spades rushed into the ring, kicked Asuka
07:40 flush in the face, and knocked out her teeth.
07:43 Bloody hell, though.
07:44 Poor Asuka finished the match, taking not only a big boot to the face from Charlotte
07:47 in the finish, but also a leg drop from Nia Jax.
07:50 Please stop, her mouth is already dead.
07:53 2.
07:54 Kotarabushi's Shoulder
07:55 The golden star of New Japan, Kotarabushi has had a bloody rollercoaster of a year,
07:59 seeing some of the biggest highs and lows of that career.
08:03 At this year's Wrestle Kingdom, after years of never winning the big one, Ibushi did just
08:07 that, becoming the undisputed New Japan Heavyweight Champion.
08:11 Then he got given a significantly worse looking belt for his trouble, lost it a few months
08:15 later to Will Ospreay, a few months after that he was struck down with aspiration pneumonia,
08:19 and then a few months after that he lost in the finals of the G1 Climax tournament after
08:23 a missed Phoenix Splash caused him to suffer from a dislocated shoulder, forcing Red Shoes
08:28 to call off the match in the latest tragic mishap in what's been a nightmare year for
08:32 New Japan.
08:33 Ospreay suffered a neck injury in May, forcing him to vacate the company's top title.
08:36 Naito went down with a knee injury in the same cursed G1.
08:39 It's just a terrible time for New Japan right now.
08:42 1.
08:43 Cash Wheeler's Arm
08:44 Holy s*** though, how to talk about this and keep our monetisation.
08:49 To be honest, if we've still got it, be a Christmas miracle.
08:51 How to bury it in a shallow grave talking about the time Cash Wheeler impaled his arm
08:56 in AEW.
08:57 At this year's Fight for the Fallen special episode of Dynamite, FTR battles Santana and
09:01 Ortiz.
09:02 During the match, Wheeler climbs to the top rope but is struck by Santana.
09:04 Wheeler falls and snags his arm on a hook on the turnbuckle which cuts him open deep.
09:10 Wheeler immediately leaves the match for medical attention, which is a bloody good thing too,
09:14 as the injury ended up causing him nerve damage over the following month, even prompting some
09:18 to speculate whether that would be the end of the road for FTR.
09:22 Thankfully that wasn't the case, and despite the gruesome injury, having actual flesh removed
09:27 from his body, Wheeler recovered within six weeks.
09:30 And that's our list.
09:31 Did we miss any significant injuries?
09:33 Let us know in the comments, tastefully please, these are human lives we're talking about.
