00:00Former International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali told the KL High
00:08Court on Friday that he mentioned Deepak Jaikishan's name in his speech at a gathering in March
00:14last year because of photographs of the businessman and a minister together.
00:19Azmin said one of the photos showed Deepak sitting beside Agriculture and Food Security
00:26Datuk Seri Mohamed Sabu on a flight to India and another of them together in a buggy.
00:32He said this when testifying in a defamation suit filed against him by egg importing company
00:39J&E Advanced Tech, Sendirian Berhad.
00:43When questioned by lawyer T Gunaseelan, representing J&E Advanced Tech, about the reason he referred
00:49the photos to the court, Azmin said it was because there was no denial from Deepak.
00:55He added that the minister confirmed in parliament that only one company was given the right
01:00to import chicken eggs, thus he questioned the photos.
01:04Azmin also told the court that he had never accused J&E Advanced Tech that it obtained
01:09the IP to import eggs illegally.
01:12He said he questioned the process of obtaining chicken eggs from India, which was not transparent
01:17and not through open tender.
01:20Last Monday, Deepak's younger brother Rajesh Jaikishan, who is J&E Advanced Tech general
01:26manager, told the court that Azmin's claim in his speech was untrue as there was no direct
01:32negotiation with the government to obtain a license to import eggs.
01:37The hearing before Judicial Commissioner Leong Wai Hong resumes on July 25 for oral submissions.
