00:02 The inception was having to deal with my own child.
00:05 The first call I got was when Dmitri was three and a half years old, and
00:10 I left him at a birthday party.
00:12 And he had apparently didn't get a chair in musical chairs, and it didn't go well.
00:17 And I got a call from the parent who was a very good friend of mine, and
00:21 she said, you better come over.
00:23 That was the first time that I was introduced to the thought of having
00:27 my son evaluated, and that literally became a part of the script in my mind,
00:32 right, because the idea that you're hearing something for
00:36 the first time about your child.
00:38 There's so much that I learned about autism based on my experiences with my son.
00:44 All the things that happened along the way,
00:45 I just started thinking I should chronicle them.
00:48 And I'm sure there are so many people who have experienced this type of
00:52 parenting of a neurodivergent child.
00:54 So I thought this would be a good thing to try to capture in a narrative story.
01:00 And one of the things I really, really cherish about my own experience with my
01:04 son is that humor is a wonderful elixir to the dramatic problems
01:10 that families do encounter when trying to advocate for a neurodivergent child.
01:16 >> You autistic.
01:17 Mom says you are.
01:18 >> Mom thinks everyone's autistic.
