00:00 The question's got 10,000 people down here.
00:02 Very good.
00:03 And that's a few thousand of us, so 12.
00:06 Yeah, it's got to be quiet. It's awesome.
00:08 And how long have you guys been lifeguards for?
00:10 I'm 11 years.
00:11 11 years?
00:12 Yeah, a long time.
00:13 This is my second year.
00:14 Second year?
00:15 Yeah, second year with the Ironman.
00:16 Mish's been really excellent, so she's been very fast-tracked.
00:20 She's a bit of a genius.
00:22 And what got you into lifeguarding? What was the appeal?
00:25 I finished uni, I did a biomedical science degree, and sort of trying to find my feet with what I want to do more long-term,
00:32 potentially paramedic science.
00:34 I think working for the RNI is an amazing step towards that,
00:38 particularly with the RNI values, being able to be dependable, trustworthy, courageous.
00:43 It's such a good charity to work for, kind of a foot in the door with first aid training,
00:48 as well as just enjoying the people.
00:50 There's a lot of skills for all that, isn't there?
00:52 Oh, absolutely.
00:53 And the other one is supporting people.
00:55 And I was just saying, making a point of seeing the young guys and girls doing CPR,
01:01 it's such a crucial skill that goes missed unless you're in a sort of environment.
01:05 We need to get it more accessible for more people in urban areas or wherever else that might not be taught that sort of thing.
01:12 You hear more and more about how important it is, someone's got to be there on the scene straight away doing CPR.
01:17 It helps you put defibrillators everywhere.
01:19 Well, this is it. And that is where we are.
01:21 You can now get on your phone and find out where defibrillators are, which is a huge deal to help people.
01:26 What got you into life, Gaby?
01:28 I actually did for self-help. I've seen it.
01:30 Did you? When you were that age?
01:31 Yeah, when I was six years old.
01:33 And I did that and then progressed and then my brother did it and then it kind of got me a foot in the door.
01:38 So I've been doing it for two years and here I am 11 years later.
