As the PGA Championship at Valhalla is just one week away, the course where Rory Mcilroy last felt major glory a decade ago, he’s in flying form and following a Wells Fargo tournament win, is in a great position to be at the very top of the sport once again.

00:00 Rory McIlroy is back at the top of golfing glory following the Wales Fargo
00:06 Championship. Whilst it may be in the absence of world number one Scotty
00:10 Scheffler, it seems the Northern Irishman is taking his chances and he's once
00:15 again finding the best version of his game. You know this is you know
00:21 historically this is a golf course that lets you hit driver a lot and you can
00:25 really take advantage of of length off the tee if you have it so you know it's
00:29 it's one of the big factors why I've been able to do so well here over the
00:33 years and you know combine that with you know how comfortable I felt with my
00:37 short game of my putting this week and you know I'm able to you know to put
00:42 runs together in this golf course that you know has enabled me to win here for
00:47 the fourth time. Going into Valhalla in 2014 I'd won my last two starts and
00:53 going into this year I've won my last two starts so just need to try to
00:58 replicate whatever I did in 2014 just try to do that all over again but yeah I
01:03 mean I think yeah I'm feeling really good with my game I need to stay in my
01:07 own little world next week and not not get too far ahead of myself but if I can
01:13 you know if I can step onto the first tee at Valhalla on Thursday and
01:18 feel as good about my game as I did today you know I think I'll have a good chance.
01:24 Xander Schafele ended the tournament as runner-up after leading late on Sunday
01:29 before Rory managed to trump him to the title. He'll feel slightly hard done by
01:34 but also appreciates the level of the game that McElroy can get to.
01:39 I mean he played unbelievable you know he was looked up to the board and I was
01:44 like dang he's eight on you know he's six under three six on the back nine it's
01:47 pretty it's something else so with that being said it was yeah I mean overall
01:56 felt like I was doing pretty well for most of the day and then had that costly
02:00 stretch and he capitalized like no other so big reversal there.
02:05 He's Rory McElroy you know he hits it 350 yards in the air downwind and he has
02:11 shorter clubs and firm greens than anyone else and when he's on he's on you
02:16 know so hats off to him for winning and yeah I mean he played unbelievably well.
02:20 South Korean Ben A produced a fantastic round on Sunday enabling a finish of third
02:27 shooting nine under par. He commented on his performance and how much confidence
02:32 he has going in to Valhalla next week.
02:35 I'm currently 10 shots behind him I don't think I could have gotten maybe two shots
02:43 three shots out of my whole week you know like if I try to play my best out of it
02:47 I don't think I can pull in 10 shots from anywhere you know that's that's
02:50 incredible what he's shooting this week and you know he's a pretty decent player
02:54 and he obviously loves his course and the score shows.
