To help put a stop to the heartbreak dementia causes, Cadbury has partnered with Alzheimer's Research UK to support the charity's research for a cure. As part of the partnership, they are releasing 'Memory Bar Boxes.'
An activity which has been suggested as being beneficial to those living with dementia and their caregivers is Reminiscence Therapy3, which involves discussing memories and past experiences using tangible prompts such as photographs or nostalgic items to evoke memories and to stimulate conversation. The Memory Bar Boxes have been created following requests from care homes and dementia support groups to the Cadbury archives for packaging no longer in circulation to support with memory activities and to help in stimulating conversation.

00:17 Mum first showed signs of dementia in 2017.
00:21 She struggled to remember conversations we'd had and in 2019 she was
00:26 diagnosed with atypical form of dementia in Alzheimer's.
00:30 Because of the dementia mum can have mood swings
00:33 and she would also forget conversations we'd had until I jogged her memory.

00:40 The most common cause of dementia is called Alzheimer's disease.
00:44 Most people think that this is just something that affects your memory as
00:47 you get older but actually it can affect people in
00:51 different ways from things like difficulties in
00:53 communicating, changes to behaviour and personality.
00:57 It's vital that we find new treatments so that we can support people to have
01:03 better quality of life and that's what Alzheimer's Research UK
01:06 exists to do. We feel it's so important for people
01:09 living with dementia to have connections and conversations
01:13 and sharing memories is a vital part of that.

01:21 The thought process was hopefully we'd get some nostalgic wrapping
01:26 and visually that that would be really strong for our residents.
01:30 It is anecdotal there isn't that evidence to show that this does make a
01:34 positive effect but certainly as a care manager from my
01:37 opinion without any doubt.
01:40 Going through the memory bar boxes has been a lovely chance to spend time
01:43 together. I remember going to my nanny's and she
01:47 had them in her shop which was lovely.
