Pholas Datylus were an Italian avant-garde prog rock band formed around 1972 in the hinterland of Milan. After almost a year of intense live atcivity (they also played alongside Amon Duul II) they recorded their only album "Concerto delle menti" a sort of concept album containing a single suite (fifty minutes long) divided in two sides without any interruption: intense and hypnotic passages with only recited vocals parts on a carpet of prog-jazz-rock-psychedelia and noise. At the end of 1973 due to health and financial problems the group dissolved.
