The intense atmosphere surrounding the elections in South India is nothing short of a spectacle as the Fourth Phase of the Indian Elections draws to a close. We discuss the prospects of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with Abhishek Jagini and Syam Prasad Meka in this special expert discussion about the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

In Andhra Pradesh, will Jagan Mohan Reddy's magic work once more, or is Chandrababu Naidu about to deal a blow? Also, in Telangana, will Revanth Reddy be able to charm Congress?

00:00 Obviously, the performance of Congress in Telangana is something that gives them a shot
00:04 in the arm as far as the Lok Sabha elections are concerned and also the assembly elections
00:10 in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
00:12 Abhishek Jagini is there with us.
00:15 Abhishekji, obviously, you know for the BJP, the general saying as it goes that the bastion
00:22 of South is something that is yet to be breached and the kind of alliances that you have in
00:27 Andhra Pradesh with Jana Sena and the TDP.
00:30 How do you see the equations unfolding because it's a two front war and many a times it
00:35 is said that assembly elections are very different from the Lok Sabha elections.
00:40 There is a Jaganmohan Reddy who has a stronghold.
00:42 There is a Chandrapabu Naidu who was not very, you know, very recently was put behind bars
00:49 also.
00:50 So the sentiments, how do you see, is it advantage BJP alliance in Andhra Pradesh as far as the
00:56 Lok Sabha elections are concerned?
00:58 Definitely this is advantage BJP and advantage NDA.
01:03 It is going to be a repeat of the 2014 result because of the anti, huge anti-incumbency
01:10 wave and lack of any other alternative apart from NDA because there are only two parties
01:15 in race.
01:16 One is the West RCP and other is the NDA alliance.
01:19 We have seen that there is a huge discontentment because of the lack of development, job creation,
01:26 and you know, any lack of any infrastructure development in Andhra Pradesh for the past
01:32 five years.
01:33 It has been a standstill and the aspirational class like I had earlier mentioned, the youth,
01:38 the working class, the middle class, the lower middle class who look for a secure future
01:45 and who have aspirations for their future are looking only at Narendra Modi's leadership
01:51 and Chandrapabu Naidu's leadership.
01:53 And what is important here is that since both the elections are together, they believe,
01:57 the people of Andhra Pradesh believe that only a double-engined government can ensure
02:03 and realize their dreams, desires, and aspirations.
02:07 Yes, the double-engined government is…
02:11 Yes, the kind of things you have said that the double-engined government has aspirations
02:18 and we have seen that in other states as well, what things have happened there.
02:23 But if you are talking about development, employment, what kind of figure is that at
02:28 the national level, it is in front of everyone.
02:31 So, why will they support BJP in Andhra Pradesh when the unemployment figure at the national
02:37 level is the highest in 40-45 years, inflation has increased, the cylinder is available for
02:43 Rs. 1200 or Rs. 1100, so why should the people of Andhra Pradesh support the same government
02:50 of the same regime, if you are talking about the double-engined government?
02:55 Andhra Pradesh is a state which is India's longest coastline after Gujarat and West Bengal.
03:02 There is a very fertile soil there.
03:04 The people there are very industrious.
03:06 They want economic development, not freebies or subsidies.
03:10 They want a market which will enable them to become rich, which will help and aid in
03:17 wealth creation.
03:19 Andhra Pradesh is a state where in the 1990s, much before the Ujjwala scheme, the BPL families
03:29 have already got a cheap cylinder.
03:32 So, Andhra Pradesh has seen the cylinder scheme 25 years ago, which you are talking about
03:38 and which has already happened.
03:40 The people of Andhra Pradesh are such that they have more than two rivers, perennial
03:44 rivers, and three crops grow there.
03:46 We are not talking about a very marginal society or a highly backward state.
03:51 There are one or two districts like Srikakulam and Vijayanagar which are classified as the
03:55 backward state.
03:56 Okay, Abhishek ji, you are connecting the local issues of the state with the national
04:00 issues and you are hoping that the people of Andhra Pradesh will support you or the
04:05 BJP and NDA and that the state government will not develop any kind of development on
04:10 local labour.
04:12 We would like to go to Mr. Mecca.
04:15 Mr. Shyam Prasad Mecca, apart from this, if the Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh
04:20 elections are going on, there are 13 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 5 seats in Bihar, West Bengal
04:25 is 8, Madhya Pradesh is 8, Maharashtra is 11.
04:28 We would like to know from you about the seats in this phase, what kind of expectations
04:35 do you have about these in other states, like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, we have talked
04:40 about.
04:41 What is your analysis about the other states?
04:44 See, one tactic that BJP is playing, I want to explain it to you.
04:51 They are losing ground in the north.
04:53 A double engine has become a trouble engine.
04:57 So to shore up their morale in north for their voters, they are creating this facet that
05:05 oh, we are gaining in south.
05:09 They are, wo log south se saaf ho raha hai, wo jaante hai wo.
05:15 This is just to beef up the confidence in the north, in their cadre.
05:22 They are creating this, taking this line of bravado about south.
05:27 So that's not going to take them anywhere.
05:30 In this phase especially, so as we move away from western UP, this is a very crucial phase.
05:39 Gatbandhan is going to do better in this phase as well as we did in the last three phases.
05:47 Obviously, very quickly, roping in Abhishek Jaggini ji also.
05:53 Abhishek ji, agar mai keh se kahu bahut hi saaf shabdo mein that off late there has been
06:00 a different sort of approach from the BJP as far as the subsequent phases of elections
06:06 are concerned.
06:07 Now we have seen the opposition training guns on the BJP on several factors, be it the Mangal
06:15 Sutruthu Sona, be it who will be the Prime Minister come 2025, whether Prime Minister
06:21 Modi will be retiring as he will be completing 75 years.
06:25 Now I know these are very ingenious methods by the opposition to corner the BJP.
06:31 But knowing for a fact that we are still only half way through, I mean today is the fourth
06:37 phase, fifth, sixth, seventh, there are four more phases to go, including today's.
06:42 How do you see, will the opposition's charge somehow go and impact the voters in these
06:49 phases?
06:50 In the BJP there is no depth of leadership, BJP is a party based on organization and not
06:57 political factor.
06:58 The BJP doesn't recruit leadership or leaders or the political candidates from one party.
07:05 So we have hundreds of options across the states, we don't need to look for any one
07:15 you know, there are plenty of options, all our ministers are working.
07:19 And moreover, Narendra Modi has already made it clear that the first 100 days signals are
07:25 going to be a very big roller coaster ride in terms of the cops.
07:30 So I would like to call for your attention to the voters, the supporters, the opposition,
07:35 everybody to buckle their seat belt and wait for the roller coaster ride that Narendra
07:40 Modi ji is about to pitch in.
07:42 He has mentioned more than once, it is enough that the Prime Minister mentions it once because
07:47 we already know he is a man of action and we have seen the last 10 years he has promised
07:54 and whatever he has delivered without even mentioning about them.
08:00 Congress needs to revisit it, we are sure that in the Indian alliance nobody has ever
08:06 had anybody with such leadership or supremacy but it is only they are all in bed, it is
08:12 a fact of convenience for their political existence and survival.
08:18 They just want to survive, they just want to be alive, they know they are all on ventilator,
08:24 they just want to hold each other's hands so that they live on and somehow manage to
08:28 live for couple of years.
08:30 They know their end is also coming.
08:32 One more thing, the country is clear and we are going to see not only in the vote phase
08:38 but also in the next few cases, it is going to be recorded in the ballot and I am sure
08:43 we will meet again on Open India Discussion to analyse the post election of the Congress
08:49 and the second story of the BJP.
