00:00 I tell you what, I don't know if you've heard this before but you are serving a look of
00:04 a young Ronan Keating at the moment.
00:07 Wow, that's niche, I'll take that. As a child of the 90s I'll take that.
00:11 Yeah, anyone over 30 will enjoy that reference. I've never thought it before, I don't think
00:15 it in the show but I looked at it then and I was like, he is serving Ronan Keating and
00:18 it's not a bad thing to serve it up.
00:20 Nice man.
00:21 So, congratulations on the continued success of Slow Horses. It's been one of my favourite
00:27 shows of the last few years and I've loved to see it build and grow and become bigger
00:33 and bigger and bigger around the world. What's that experience been like for you as an actor
00:37 to start something that you know is great, you know it's well written but then has just
00:41 grown exponentially in the past three or four years?
00:45 It's a wonderful feeling. I mean, I've never done anything that's recurring so it's great
00:49 that as it recurs it's very good. I imagine it wouldn't be fun if it wasn't. So, that's
00:55 my favourite thing about it, that it keeps getting better and I genuinely do think the
00:58 scripts, the whole look of the show, the actors that we keep adding, we keep getting a top
01:04 up, it feels like every season of brilliant actors so it's a pleasure, yeah.
01:08 Is it a different sort of atmosphere each new season when you step on set with that
01:12 kind of, that sort of like buzz, that little free zone of success, I guess, in a way. When
01:17 you're back on set and you go, this is slightly different to what we were working on last
01:21 year because you start something and you go, oh, hopefully this gets an audience, this
01:24 will be fun to do. You go on again, it's like, we're now at the driving wheel, the steering
01:28 wheel of something big.
01:31 It's nice to know that it works. It's nice to turn up and know that this works because
01:35 in the first one we were also trying to figure out what the tone was and stuff so it's nice
01:40 to know that whatever we came up with, it works and that always makes a huge difference,
01:46 yeah.
01:47 Does the voice inside your head ever stop screaming, oh my god, that's Gary Oldman
01:51 talking to me?
01:52 No, no it never does, it never does. But he has an effect on you where you do forget who
01:57 he is really. No, it never really stops. No, man's a genius.
02:02 I wonder if you have read ahead and you know exactly where this character is going, exactly
02:09 where the stories are going because Jonathan Pryce earlier on was like, well, yeah, the
02:13 books are there and I'm thinking, no, you can't, you wouldn't want to ruin the next
02:17 couple of series like that.
02:18 No, I haven't read on. I haven't read on. I read them as we go but of course there has
02:23 to be big changes to the original books as well, things that maybe don't work so it's
02:28 kind of pointless for me to read them as well but I really don't want to read them. I want
02:31 to be surprised for sure.
02:33 And speaking about being surprised, it's been another fantastic year in drama, in comedy,
02:38 in entertainment, that's what we're here to celebrate. What has kind of tickled your fancy
02:43 so to speak over the last 12 months? What have you been excited to watch, excited to
02:46 meet people from, wishing your agent had called you about? What has got you?
02:51 I mean there's so much but we were recently watching Shogun, a brilliant piece about ancient
02:59 Japan. It was wonderful. And Cosmo Jarvis is one of my favourite actors so yeah, that
03:04 one.
03:05 Love to see you in a Shogun series too potentially.
03:07 I'd do that now.
03:08 If you've got the time left in your schedule.
03:10 Not at the moment but yeah, hopefully.
03:12 Well mate, congratulations on your continued success. I hope you do meet Ronan Keating
03:16 at some point and you start exactly the same way. You guys can have a bit of a moment,
03:21 mention me, that's fine. And I can't wait for the next series.
03:24 Brilliant man, thanks very much.
03:25 Cheers buddy, have a good one.
