00:06 claiming that the US has made Malaysia the first country in the region

00:10 to be listed as a state sponsor of terror.

00:13 A WhatsApp message circulated yesterday, purportedly from a Reuters report,

00:17 claimed that this was a result of the sanctions

00:20 which the US has imposed on four Malaysian-based companies.

00:24 In a statement on X, Reuters said such claims are false.

00:28 The fake Reuters report comes as top US Treasury official Brian Nelson

00:33 paid a visit to Malaysia, during which he said the sanctions imposed last year

00:38 on the four Malaysia-based companies were still in place.

00:41 The US Treasury imposed sanctions on the four companies in December

00:45 after it was reported that they were providing components for Iran's weapons program.

00:50 Apart from claiming that the conversation between the US officials

00:54 and their Malaysian counterparts during the trip were bitter and short,

00:58 the fake Reuters report said the US officials asked Malaysian officials

01:03 to tone down their support for Hamas and Gaza both publicly and privately.

01:08 The report also claimed that the US will not hesitate to impose

01:11 harsher economic crippling sanctions on Malaysia if needed.
