00:02 - Okay, well, Minnesota, the latest in their saga
00:05 to legalize sports betting has taken a very odd turn
00:09 as one of the state senators.
00:10 Is this right here, Pat, that was involved
00:13 in some of the discussion here to legalize it?
00:14 Has some legal issues himself
00:17 with getting this pushed across?
00:18 This is not good news for them.
00:21 - Yeah, again, a state that we've talked about at length,
00:25 ad nauseum, that I continually beat,
00:27 I'm optimistic about and then have to eat my words.
00:30 This year, it looks like it's pretty much dead.
00:33 Has, it looked really promising heading into the year.
00:36 We've, we're told that the tribes and racetracks,
00:39 which are the two major stakeholders at play,
00:41 we're working on it over the break and all this.
00:45 And, well, this year, we've just seen a lot of people
00:48 throwing things at the wall, trying to make things work.
00:50 Then the Minnesota Racing Commission went ahead
00:54 and said that the two tracks can have historical
00:57 horse racing machines, which are basically slot machines.
01:01 That made the tribes mad.
01:02 Now there's a new bill that's saying,
01:04 well, you can't have those.
01:07 And then we've had a tribe sue a couple of casinos
01:12 because they're offering games.
01:13 So the tribes and tracks are seemingly
01:15 farther and farther apart.
01:17 Then, yeah, we've seen the Senate become kind of a mess.
01:21 A senator was arrested for breaking into her,
01:25 I believe step-mom's house to get things that her father,
01:29 her deceased father wanted her to have.
01:32 And so she's arrested.
01:33 The Republicans want this Democratic senator
01:37 stripped of committees and voting power.
01:39 The Democrats, who hold a one vote majority,
01:42 don't want to lose that.
01:44 And so we've seen multiple senators and representatives say,
01:50 if this House proposal gets to the Senate,
01:52 the Senate's a mess and they're not going to act on it.
01:55 So basically, whether it's the proposal itself
01:59 being a problem because the tribes don't agree.
02:04 So the Republicans who support the tracks
02:06 and the Democrats who support the tribes don't agree.
02:10 So there's that, but then there's on top of that,
02:13 the mess in the Senate that is now going to gum up
02:16 almost everything, not just sports betting.
02:18 So yeah, Minnesota, again,
02:21 I was super high on it heading into the year.
02:24 Now I'm not.
