00:00Washington has not given so far any credible information or evidence that Indian citizens
00:08are involved in the preparation of killing of some Panun.
00:14As for the speculations, since there is no evidence, they are not acceptable.
00:19That they try to unbalance the domestic political situation in India in order to make it harder
00:25to have the general parliamentary election.
00:27The Russian Foreign Ministry categorically dismissed the U.S. allegations implicating
00:31India in the foiled assassination attempt of India-designated Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwan
00:37Singh Pannu.
00:38Maria Zakharova, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson for Russia, criticized Washington for failing
00:43to provide any credible evidence of Indian involvement and accused the U.S. of disrespecting
00:49India as a sovereign state.
00:52Zakharova condemned what she described as the U.S.'s neo-Canadian mentality and emphasized
00:57the baseless accusations against India, reflecting a lack of understanding of India's national
01:03character and historical context.
01:06She suggested that such accusations stem from a mentality reminiscent of Canadianism and
01:11imperialism.
01:12Furthermore, Zakharova also asserted that the allegations are part of a larger scheme
01:17to interfere in India's internal affairs, particularly during the ongoing Lok Sabha
01:22elections, to destabilize the political situation and complicate the electoral process.
01:28She even suggested that the term repressive regime can be more aptly applied to Washington
01:33itself, given its action both domestically and internationally.
01:38This marks the first such statement from another nation rather than India critiquing the U.S.'s
01:44claim of plotting an assassination of Khalistani separatist Gurpatwan Singh Pannu.
01:49If one remembers, a Washington Post report had alleged the involvement of an officer
01:53from India's Research and Analysis Wing, RAW, in orchestrating the assassination plot against
01:58Pannu.
02:00It claimed that the final instructions were relayed to a hired hit team to carry out the
02:04assassination pending confirmation of Pannu's presence at home.
02:09However, India's Ministry of External Affairs swiftly rejected the U.S. media's report denouncing
02:14it as unwarranted and unsubstantiated.
02:17The ministry emphasized that the speculative and irresponsible comments were not conductive
02:21to the ongoing investigation into the matter.
02:24Yet, the Biden administration continues to pick up the issue whenever it gets an opportunity
02:28to question India.
02:30The U.S. Justice Department has also implicated an Indian government employee referred as
02:34CC1 in recruiting an Indian national named Nikhil Gupta to hire a hitman for the assassination
02:41plot.
02:42Gupta, currently in custody in the Czech Republic, is awaiting extradition to the U.S. and he
02:46faces trial for his alleged involvement in the foiled assassination attempt.
02:51The issue presents a delicate challenge for both India and the Biden administration, particularly
02:55in the light of their efforts to strengthen ties amid shared concern about China's increasing
03:00influence.
03:02The U.S.'s expectation of accountability from India regarding the foiled plot adds complexity
03:07to the bilateral relationship, which appears to be in no good shape as of now.
