00:00 NBC has handed out a series order to the multi-camera comedy "Happy's Place," starring Reba McEntire.
00:05 "Happy's Place" sees McEntire play Bobbie, a woman who inherits her father's restaurant,
00:10 and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister
00:14 she never knew she had. The series reunites McEntire with the team behind her 2001 sitcom,
00:19 "Reba," including showrunner Kevin Abbott and co-star Melissa Peterman.
00:23 Earlier this month, after filming the pilot and before the series pickup,
00:27 McEntire told The Hollywood Reporter this about why she wanted to return to the sitcom world.
00:31 "Well, we wanted to do it right after we were cancelled on the Reba show in 2006. We've been
00:36 working tirelessly trying to find the right script, the right idea. We did do Malibu Country
00:43 one season with Lily Tomlin and Sarah Rue, and then we got the idea, Julie Abbott came up with
00:50 the idea of Happy's Place, and we shot the pilot, and we're just waiting to see what NBC says if
00:56 it's going to series or not." Happy's Place is now one of four new series NBC has on tap for the
01:01 2024-2025 broadcast season. Meanwhile, the network renewed Lopez vs. Lopez for a third season,
01:07 but cancelled rookie comedy Extended Family, starring Jon Cryer. For her part, McEntire is
01:12 a proven star and TV draw, an important element as broadcast networks and streamers alike look
01:17 for broad programming that can not only break through a crowded landscape, but also travel
01:21 globally. Coming up, she's set to host the 2024 ACM Awards on May 16 on Prime Video.
