00:00Maxine, your ears must have been burning all day, the town is abuzz.
00:05Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the craziest, funniest,
00:10and most shocking scenes from the Apple TV Plus dramedy series Palm Royale.
00:15Spoilers for those who haven't seen the first season.
00:17Donna, I'm very resourceful, and oh, so discreet.
00:23Number 10.
00:25Meeting Maxine
00:26How did you get past security?
00:28I came in the back.
00:29There are no doors in the back of the Palm Royale.
00:32I never said I used the door.
00:33When we're introduced to Maxine Delacorte-Simmons, she's just scaled a wall to sneak into the
00:38super-exclusive Palm Royale Country Club.
00:41As we learned in her narration, the Palm Beach newbie longs to be a member where she'll be
00:45amongst the wealthy, fashionable ladies.
00:48Sitting by the sparkling pool, Maxine eavesdrops on Evelyn Rollins, Dinah Donahue, Mary Jones
00:54David Soule, and Raquel Kimberly-Marco, four of the most talked-about women in high society.
00:59I long for a kinder, gentler time, when a woman's capacity to humiliate herself wasn't
01:04so bottomless.
01:05So true.
01:09This is Nixon Way, then, said women already have equal rights, they simply need to choose
01:12to exercise them.
01:14Exactly.
01:15Her attempt to casually join their conversation was as cringe as it was hilarious.
01:20Little did they, or we know, just how disruptive and endlessly entertaining Maxine's presence
01:25could be.
01:26Wow, look at us.
01:27We're like a couple of twins.
01:30Our outfits are made of the same fabric.
01:35Number 9.
01:36Carpe Dinah
01:37You're very good at making things awkward, you must work on that.
01:41I didn't mean to say anything to make you uncomfortable, and yet here we are.
01:45While chatting with her manicurist Mitzi, Maxine spots Dinah Donahue in a heated exchange
01:51across the street.
01:52Her play-by-play of their public quarrel shouldn't have been as humorous as it was,
01:55but Kristen Wiig's comedic talent has the power to make anything funny.
01:59There he goes, storming off.
02:01Oh, this isn't good.
02:03Oh, look at her, she's crushed.
02:05Now she's slumping over her car.
02:10Mitzi, it's an opening and a path to personal glory.
02:16Still on her social climbing quest, Maxine seizes the opportunity to cozy up to Dinah
02:21and secure a sponsorship for the club.
02:23But Maxine couldn't just walk up to her.
02:26No, she orchestrates a discreet introduction via fender bender, because if there's one
02:31thing Maxine Delacorte-Simmons is going to do, it's gonna be extra.
02:35If her intro didn't tell us enough about Maxine's unique personality, this sequence
02:40spoke volumes.
02:41I cannot tell if you are a country bumpkin or the most ruthless woman in Palm Beach.
02:458.
02:47Maxine's Confession
02:48Early in the series, we find out that Maxine was pregnant before she married Douglas, but
02:52shortly after, she lost the baby.
02:55However, these life events didn't happen in that order.
02:58I lost the baby before we got married, um, right, right before, and I didn't want to
03:07tell you because you were so excited and I didn't want to disappoint you.
03:11After Sylvia gives birth, Maxine becomes visibly upset, triggered by the arrival of a baby
03:15sharing the name of her unborn son.
03:18In a particularly vulnerable moment, she finally tells Douglas the truth about her pre-wedding
03:22pregnancy loss, and why she didn't tell him about it.
03:25I thought we thought it'd be so easy to get pregnant again.
03:29I'm so sorry, but that was wrong.
03:34I should have told you.
03:36After all this time, I should have told you it was wrong, but please tell me you forgive
03:39me.
03:40He reacts how you'd expect, and walks away without saying whether or not he can forgive
03:43her.
03:45And they move past it, only for another pregnancy-related secret to threaten their marriage.
03:50More on that later.
03:51That was quick.
03:52Congratulations.
03:53You must have worked a miracle.
03:56Yeah, kinda.
03:59Number 7.
04:00An unlikely alliance.
04:02Ladies, did anybody receive a beach ball invitation from Norma before she embolized?
04:07No.
04:08Hmm.
04:09Without those invitations going out, I'm, I'm curious who exactly you'll be inviting
04:14to Norma's gala, Maxine.
04:16With Norma Delacorte out of commission as the matriarch of Palm Beach, it's up to Maxine
04:20to close out the season hosting the iconic beach ball.
04:23But the ladies have zero faith in her, and frankly, just don't like her at all.
04:29Evelyn Rollins bursts Maxine's bubble, revealing Douglas won't get the inheritance they'd been
04:33expecting.
04:34When she finally goes, and that will truly be a sad day for all, her entire estate will
04:40be moved into a trust benefiting the Palm Beach Pedigree Feline Society.
04:45But Maxine Delacorte is no quitter, and she's smarter than everyone thinks.
04:49Evelyn tries to take over the upcoming gala, but knowing that her own social status is
04:54on the line, she reluctantly agrees to split hosting duties with the woman she can't stand.
04:59You find the key to Norma's safe deposit box, get the Rolodex, and the two of us will get
05:02down to business.
05:07Number 6.
05:08Maxine's feud to friendship.
05:09I've been with women.
05:10Well, then what's wrong with me?
05:18I am gay, and there's nothing wrong with you, it's just that we're friends.
05:25Maxine's arrival proved frustrating for nearly everyone in town, but there's no one she butted
05:30heads with more than Robert Diaz, a Palm Royale bartender and Norma's friend-slash-caretaker.
05:36While she stayed positive throughout her many spats with the society ladies, Maxine didn't
05:40hold back when it came to insulting Robert.
05:43So don't get too comfortable, conditional pool boy.
05:47After several arguments, one that even went to court, she embarrassed herself by coming
05:52on to him.
05:53When she confronts him about his polite rejection, Maxine learns that she's simply not his type,
05:59and also that he considers her a friend.
06:12We love an enemies-to-lovers story, but Maxine and Robert's strangers-to-enemies-to-close-friends
06:17journey was better than we could have hoped for, and became our favorite relationship
06:22in the series.
06:44When Maxine found out that Douglas and Linda, then going by her real name Penelope Rollins,
06:49were almost married, to say it was a shock would be an understatement.
06:53Plus, she learned she and Douglas were already dating at the same time, meaning she was the
06:58other woman.
07:06But just as surprising is that Linda tried to shoot him on their wedding day and accidentally
07:10hit her father.
07:11Linda tells Maxine everything that happened, assuring her that she's not mad, but thankful
07:16that Douglas went off with Maxine.
07:18The episode ends with her burning the Rolodex, along with Norma's dirt, on everyone.
07:30Number 4.
07:31Father-daughter trip
07:32Palme Royale brought the comedy, but also gave us some touching scenes.
07:36We briefly got to know Skeet Rollins, Linda's father, and Evelyn's husband.
07:54With Maxine's disposal of the gun and Linda's burning of the Rolodex, they feel free from
07:58the past.
07:59And knowing his daughter won't be charged 20 years after the accident, Skeet says he's
08:04ready.
08:14Under the influence of psychedelics, the pair watch the Apollo 12 take off and go into their
08:19own world as he passes away.
08:21The scene was especially heartbreaking and beautiful, with the real-life father-daughter
08:25Laura and Bruce Dern acting duo's excellent performances.
08:44Number 3.
08:45Evelyn and the whale
08:47Already stressed with preparations for the beach ball, the last thing Maxine needs is
08:51a beached whale on the property.
08:53The strangest part of this particularly bonkers episode is Evelyn becoming mesmerized by the
08:58mammal.
09:10Its presence lets her temporarily escape her life that's currently in shambles.
09:15Under its influence, Evelyn becomes a gentler version of herself, singing and opening up
09:19about her past.
09:27Meanwhile, Maxine is briefly distracted by reuniting Norma with an old friend, Axel Rosenhips.
09:35At his birthday party, a characteristically unhinged Maxine tries calling out to the whale,
09:40drawing it back into the sea, leaving Evelyn lonely and heartbroken again.
09:44This just might be the show's most unserious episode.
09:56Number 2.
09:57Beach ball bombshell
09:58I had a long talk with Norma.
10:01She said I should say what's on my mind.
10:03Of course, you should always say what's on your mind.
10:06For several episodes, everyone's been talking about the annual end-of-season beach ball
10:10at the Delacorte Mansion.
10:12With President Nixon in attendance, the pressure's higher than ever, meaning something was bound
10:17to go terribly wrong.
10:19With a smug Norma in tow, Mitzi tells Maxine about her unexpected pregnancy, and ever the
10:24encouraging friend, Maxine says to confront the father right now.
10:41Instead of, you know, revealing the hurtful truth after the ball, Mitzi walks right up
10:46to Douglas as Maxine watches from the stage.
10:49Of course, she begins to spiral in the spotlight, trying to compose herself in front of the
10:53party guests, but then she starts spilling everyone's tea.
11:08The impromptu roast was entertaining and somewhat satisfying, though Maxine's heartbreak
11:13was painful to watch.
11:15Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
11:19Feminist faux pas, Maxine's traditional views aren't a crowd pleaser.
11:39Astronaut rescue.
11:40We really had to suspend our disbelief for this crazy scene.
11:43Maxine's really a Delacorte.
11:58The look on Dinah's face is priceless.
12:09Not a movement.
12:10Powerful statement from someone who doesn't consider themselves a feminist.
12:27Dinah just wants her revolver.
12:29One of many side-splitting scenes between Kristen Wiig and Carol Burnett.
12:56Out with a bang.
13:15Between Anne Holiday's in-depth research for the shiny sheet and Axel Rosenhips being
13:19ghosted by his former love, the real identity of Norma Delacorte is called into question.
13:24As Norma deviously enjoys Maxine's dissent, Robert lets Agnes know the jig is up.
13:40Meanwhile Mary puts her insane plan to assassinate President Nixon at the beach ball into motion,
13:45but when Linda tries to stop her, the shot accidentally hits Robert instead.
13:50Everyone flees the tent as Maxine screams in anguish.
13:53The fate of Robert and exposure of Agnes slash Norma's decades-long ruse is an excellent
13:58if stressful cliffhanger.
14:01Hopefully there's a second season that will give us the answers.
14:03J.C.
14:04Crazy Anne, you were just in a coma.
14:05Did they find out what happened?
14:06It was the wackiest thing.

14:16Is this about the jewelry?
14:18The checks?
14:19It's Don Mabel?
14:20Look, I will tell you everything.
14:21I can't live like this.
