00:00 Thanks, Chairman.
00:04 Speaker Johnson is meeting today at 1230 again with Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene
00:09 in an effort to apparently stave off any motion to vacate Democratic leadership.
00:15 You guys have said that you would block something like that.
00:18 Do you have any concern about where the direction of these talks could go after the direction
00:23 that McCarthy's talks with folks who were thinking about ousting him went last time?
00:29 It's just not lost on us that whoever the Republican leader is has to cater to the most
00:39 extremes of their party.
00:42 I can't speak to the promises that he will make, but we know the promises that Kevin
00:47 McCarthy made.
00:48 And those promises, including changing the rules package and allowing for a single member
00:53 to force a motion to vacate, led to him being ousted by his own members.
00:59 So I can't speak to it.
01:00 I know he was just here at this podium, very animated in talking about some topics that
01:08 had not been front of mind in the past, namely the President's investigations, the former
01:14 President being investigated.
01:16 So I'm sure that's part of the mix of what Marjorie Taylor Greene wants to see out of
01:22 her speaker.
01:23 But I can't talk about - we don't know, we aren't privy to those promises that he's
01:29 making.
01:30 But we are focused on working with Republicans where we can on an agenda that matters for
01:35 everyday Americans.
01:36 Just like the Vice Chair said, they want to look at what's on the agenda this week - liberty
01:42 for laundries, freedom for refrigerators.
01:44 I mean, these are unserious issues that the Republican conference is putting forward.
01:51 When they can't push censures and impeachments, they're going to push this silly stuff, because
01:58 that's just who they are.
01:59 They don't want to lower the cost to everyday Americans.
02:00 They don't want to work in a collaborative way to create jobs.
02:07 They're worried about that, meaning that President Biden scores political points or something.
02:12 I mean, this is ridiculous, but it speaks more to who they are and what they care about
02:18 than anything.
02:19 So, yeah.
02:20 MR.
02:21 RUBIO: Marjorie Taylor Greene has believed in wild conspiracy theories.
02:25 She is extreme.
02:26 She's made extreme statements.
02:27 She's also one of the leaders of the pro-Putin caucus of the Republican conference.
02:34 So when Speaker Johnson meets with her for hours, the American people should be asking,
02:40 what is Marjorie Taylor Greene extracting from the Speaker?
02:43 QUESTION: Would - to follow up, would something like this make it less likely that you guys
02:48 might step in in the event of an eventual motion to vacate, depending on the results
02:51 of whatever these talks go?
02:53 MR.
02:54 RUBIO: It would depend on what Marjorie Taylor Greene is able to extract.
02:58 And I can guarantee you whatever it is, it's not likely going to move the American family
03:02 forward.
03:03 Thanks.
03:04 MR.
03:05 PALLADINO: We have said her effort will not be successful.
03:06 That's what we've said.
03:07 We want to turn the page.
03:08 We want to put this behind us.
03:09 And we'll see what happens in the future.
03:09 (Laughter.)
03:14 in the future.
