01:37 50 years. Now let's meet the guests. Hello. Hello. Hello Mr. Uyen Linh, Ms. Ngoc La.
01:47 The city of Ho Chi Minh City is so happy to welcome you from Dong Thap Highlands.
01:51 Dr. Network brings the necessary health information to each family.
01:56 So you've lived in Dong Thap since childhood? I was born and raised in Dong Thap.
02:05 I lived in District 1, Binh Thanh Tay, and then moved to Dat Lo.
02:09 My mother-in-law's hometown is District 3, and now it's District 5, Binh Phu Long.
02:15 So you and your mother-in-law are close? Yes.
02:19 Just different? Just different.
02:21 Let's go back to the past. Let's go back more than 50 years.
02:30 More? More.
02:30 Because you've known each other for 50 years. Yes, because we live close.
02:34 How did you meet and know each other?
02:39 You say it or I say it? You say it.
02:42 I met my wife at the time when my uncle's family,
02:48 my uncle's family, married my sister's brother.
02:56 So we got married.
02:59 My wife and I got married and got to know each other.
03:03 I met her and called her "sister".
03:05 We were both uncles, so we called each other "sister".
03:08 When she was younger, my wife and I called each other "father".
03:11 We didn't call each other by name.
03:14 We talked normally like sisters.
03:18 We didn't have any feelings.
03:20 No love at all? No.
03:23 When I grew up, people started to ask me about my wife and I.
03:29 But it didn't end there.
03:31 My wife told me that we were sisters, not cousins.
03:34 She said, "Let me be your father-in-law.
03:37 I can't do this. I can't do that."
03:39 My sister said, "You should call me sister.
03:42 You can't call me that."
03:44 I said, "That's weird."
03:45 We started to talk like my parents.
03:49 My parents or my wife's parents.
03:51 We were friends.
03:53 We were friends.
03:55 The adults said that she was my sister.
03:58 She was my cousin.
04:00 She said, "It's okay."
04:02 The adults started to promise each other.
04:06 I started to say no.
04:10 I said, "My wife is younger than me.
04:13 I won't say no to her when she's older."
04:15 I said, "We've known each other for so long.
04:17 I can't talk to her if I say no."
04:20 I said it.
04:22 We've known each other for so long.
04:24 If she doesn't say no, how can I talk to her?
04:27 I was so shy.
04:28 People would say I was a bad person.
04:30 My parents told me that
04:33 they promised each other that they would come to my house.
04:37 If I didn't come, they would kick me out.
04:40 Oh my god.
04:41 I just said one sentence.
04:43 What should I do now?
04:45 What about you?
04:46 When you heard your sister said,
04:50 "I'll come to your house.
04:52 I don't need to introduce you."
04:53 How did you feel?
04:55 I was so shy.
04:57 I was okay with it.
04:59 But when I met him,
05:01 I didn't know what to say.
05:03 I said, "I'm not a bad person."
05:06 Maybe you should say, "I'm a bad person."
05:08 Maybe I should say, "I'm a bad person."
05:10 "I'm a bad person."
05:11 It's weird.
05:12 Did you look at each other's eyes when you saw him?
05:16 Yes.
05:17 I didn't look at him.
05:18 Because I had a guest that day.
05:21 I had a guest that day.
05:22 It's not weird.
05:23 That day, my aunt and Lam Mai...
05:26 Lam Mai and Anh were there.
05:29 They were there.
05:31 I met him.
05:33 I met him.
05:34 I met them.
05:36 My sister-in-law said,
05:38 "Let's go home."
05:39 He said, "What?"
05:41 "Who made me like that?"
05:43 "I drank and went to sleep."
05:45 I went home in the afternoon.
05:47 You slept at his house?
05:48 I said, "I was lying there. I didn't sleep."
05:50 "I didn't sleep."
05:51 Did you think that if you went home, you would lose her?
05:54 So you decided to stay and keep her?
05:56 I don't know.
05:58 I didn't think about it.
06:00 But my friend said,
06:02 "I didn't know."
06:03 "I went there 2 days before the date."
06:07 "My sister-in-law said,"
06:09 "If she agreed, she would give me money."
06:11 "I would give her the money."
06:13 "When I came to the party, I would do it."
06:15 My wife heard it.
06:17 She said she didn't agree.
06:18 She said, "It's not a pig. It's a pig."
06:20 She didn't agree.
06:21 The day came,
06:23 the man who came to see was my aunt's aunt.
06:27 My aunt, Lam Mai.
06:29 Oh, it's tense.
06:30 The next day, my aunt knew.
06:32 She told that man.
06:34 He said, "Let me go up and see."
06:36 "I will go up and see what he looks like."
06:39 We were so shocked.
06:41 How did you feel?
06:43 He was more handsome than me.
06:46 I was younger than him.
06:48 He was old and had a toothache.
06:50 I was so shocked.
06:52 You were confident?
06:53 Yes.
06:55 You have a wife now.
06:56 What?
06:57 You have a wife now.
06:58 Oh my god.
06:59 You are right.
07:01 How long did you date?
07:04 We dated for a month.
07:06 We dated for a month.
07:08 We dated for a month.
07:10 We dated for a month.
07:12 That's fast.
07:14 You didn't see each other until the date?
07:18 No.
07:19 No more.
07:20 That's so cruel.
07:22 We started seeing each other after the date.
07:24 Oh, you started seeing each other.
07:26 I started seeing her after 2-3 days.
07:29 I started seeing her right away.
07:31 I started seeing her right away.
07:33 Did you hold hands or feet?
07:36 Not at first.
07:38 Not at first.
07:39 But after I asked him,
07:43 he said he would give me a clip.
07:48 "You are going to get married.
07:51 I have a wife.
07:53 I will marry her."
07:55 He said yes.
07:57 Then I brought my wife to visit him.
08:00 Then I brought my wife to visit him.
08:04 Then what?
08:05 He said he would hug me.
08:08 Oh my god.
08:09 That's so cruel.
08:11 You were so shy at that time.
08:13 I was so shy.
08:14 What did you say?
08:15 I said "I love you."
08:16 You said "I love you."
08:17 You said "I love you."
08:18 You said "I love you."
08:19 That's so fast.
08:20 Oh my god.
08:21 You just came here and hugged me.
08:24 If it was you, we wouldn't get married.
08:26 I didn't say "I love you."
08:28 I was so shy.
08:30 Did you say anything when you kissed him?
08:32 I said "I love you."
08:34 Oh my god. Why did you kiss me?
08:36 How long did you get married after the first kiss?
08:40 It was in August.
08:42 We got married in January.
08:43 After 3 months of marriage?
08:44 August 24th was the wedding.
08:47 November 20th and 21st were the wedding.
08:52 That year.
08:53 That year.
08:54 That year.
08:55 You got married right after the wedding?
08:56 My wife was 25 years old.
08:58 I was 23.
09:00 I want to ask you about your feelings.
09:04 From the wedding to the wedding day,
09:08 did you imagine how your life would be after the wedding?
09:14 Did you imagine what would happen?
09:18 I had a bad imagination.
09:20 I was so scared.
09:22 Scared?
09:23 What did you imagine?
09:24 What did you imagine?
09:26 I was scared of the wedding day.
09:29 The wedding night?
09:30 Yes.
09:31 You were scared?
09:32 I was so scared.
09:33 Did you worry about anything after the wedding?
09:35 I didn't worry about anything.
09:38 I was drunk.
09:40 I was drunk.
09:42 I didn't worry about anything.
09:43 How long did you stop being drunk?
09:45 I heard my father say that
09:50 the wedding day that they built a bridge under the highland,
09:56 if we slept together in the middle of the bridge,
10:03 the bridge would be broken.
10:05 I thought I should do something to get over the bridge day.
10:11 You should do something to get over the bridge.
10:14 Oh my god.
10:15 Did you wear a ring or earrings?
10:19 Earrings.
10:20 There are many kinds of earrings.
10:22 For example, a bouquet for a couple.
10:28 I gave it to Nha Trang and Triet Lach before the wedding.
10:32 Did you have money?
10:33 Yes.
10:34 How much?
10:35 I had 600,000 VND or something.
10:38 Oh my god.
10:39 That's a lot of money.
10:40 Yes.
10:41 So your family had all the conditions?
10:43 Yes.
10:45 Did you have children?
10:47 No.
10:48 I had children in 1981.
10:51 That's a long time.
10:52 I don't know how long.
10:56 I thought I wouldn't have children.
10:58 When I asked my parents,
11:02 they said they didn't have children.
11:05 Why did your parents say that?
11:07 They said that.
11:08 They said they didn't have children.
11:12 They said that.
11:14 I said they were just a little sad.
11:17 They were just a little sad.
11:19 I had my first daughter.
11:22 I told my wife that she wasn't my daughter.
11:25 I raised her in a fish tank.
11:29 Because your father-in-law said you didn't have children.
11:32 Yes.
11:33 I told my father-in-law that.
11:36 He said, "What are you saying? You're making it hard for me."
11:39 He was mocking me.
11:43 How many children did you have?
11:45 Four.
11:46 Four.
11:47 Boys or girls?
11:48 Two girls.
11:50 Two boys.
11:51 But to be honest,
11:53 the boy who was pregnant was a little younger than me.
11:57 He was only 2 or 3 months old.
11:59 He was sick.
12:00 What was his illness?
12:02 Unal.
12:03 Unal.
12:04 The doctor at Cau Lanh said that he had to have an abortion.
12:09 So he had this disease.
12:11 He didn't dare to go home.
12:13 He didn't want to go home.
12:15 He went to the temple.
12:18 He asked for an anti-abortion medicine.
12:20 I asked him if this medicine could cure the disease.
12:22 He said no.
12:23 I said, "Oh my God, the doctor said that you have to have an abortion."
12:28 "How can you go to the temple without having an abortion?"
12:30 I went to the doctor at Sa Dec.
12:32 He was very good at Sa Dec.
12:34 He said, "You have to get the disease."
12:36 "You have to get this disease."
12:38 He said, "I have to see Dr. Ngoc."
12:41 "Dr. Ngoc said that you have to have an abortion."
12:44 "Then you can have it."
12:45 Dr. Phuc was very surprised.
12:47 "Are you a doctor or am I a doctor?"
12:49 "I can't be a doctor."
12:52 He didn't go home.
12:54 He didn't go home.
12:55 That day, he was at his wife's house.
12:58 I was drinking with my wife.
12:59 I said, "Now I'm your husband."
13:01 "I'll give you this medicine."
13:03 "You have to be responsible for me."
13:05 "What are you asking?"
13:06 "You said that your wife was sick."
13:09 "The doctor said that she had a surgery."
13:11 "But she didn't have a surgery."
13:12 "Now I'm telling you."
13:14 "If anything happens later, don't blame me for not taking care of your wife."
13:18 On the 8th day, he had a wife.
13:20 My wife was at his house.
13:22 He said, "Now you go, I'll take care of her."
13:24 She was very surprised.
13:26 I said, "Now my illness is still mild."
13:28 "My health is still good."
13:29 "I have money."
13:30 "If it gets worse, I can't take care of her."
13:34 I was sick at first.
13:38 My neighbor was sick.
13:41 My mother took me home.
13:43 She took me home and took me to the hospital.
13:45 I was walking.
13:46 I didn't have a motorbike.
13:49 On the 8th day, I told the doctor.
13:52 "If the doctor asks you to sign a name and a model, please sign it for me."
13:55 "If he asks you to sign it, don't blame me."
13:57 "If he asks you to sign it, sign it."
13:59 "I'll do anything."
14:02 When I got home, my wife was sick.
14:06 She was still unconscious.
14:08 I was sitting in the hospital.
14:11 I was about to give birth.
14:13 I thought to myself,
14:15 "If she leaves, I won't be able to take care of her."
14:18 After a few hours, she was out of medicine.
14:21 She was unconscious.
14:23 It hurt so much.
14:24 She took my voice.
14:26 I took my voice and let her go.
14:28 She was crying and I said,
14:31 "Why does my wife have such a bad pain?"
14:34 She said, "You went to help Truc and she was hurt."
14:38 "She had a long stomach and you asked her why she was in pain."
14:45 I said, "If you have medicine, reduce the pain."
14:48 "Give her medicine to relieve the pain."
14:50 "It hurts so much."
14:53 It seems that he really loved you.
14:56 His pain was the reason why he followed your pain.
15:00 After you got married,
15:03 did your life change?
15:06 It was better than when I was single.
15:11 How was it better?
15:13 I could work and eat.
15:15 I could go to work and study.
15:17 How about being a bride?
15:19 It was normal.
15:21 Normal.
15:22 We were the only ones who loved her the most.
15:25 What did you do for a living?
15:28 I made sugarcane, beans, rice, etc.
15:32 Who sold rice?
15:35 You and your husband?
15:36 We didn't sell rice.
15:38 We just ate.
15:40 Where did you spend your money?
15:41 I worked part-time.
15:43 In the same place?
15:44 Yes.
15:45 How much did you earn?
15:46 I saved it for him.
15:48 You saved all the money you earned.
15:50 You didn't give him money.
15:53 You gave him when he asked for it.
15:55 I didn't ask for it.
15:56 I sold it to my grandmother.
16:00 After a while,
16:02 my grandmother's family saw us.
16:05 So they sent us to live in the house.
16:08 We made sugarcane, beans, etc.
16:10 How long did you live alone?
16:12 I had a child.
16:14 How did you live alone?
16:15 My grandmother's family
16:17 had a house for her to worship.
16:21 My grandmother didn't work anymore.
16:23 She bought a house.
16:24 She didn't make a mistake.
16:25 She made a mistake.
16:26 You fell into the river?
16:27 Yes.
16:28 You lost your land.
16:29 We lived in the Tien River.
16:30 We lived in Binh Thanh.
16:32 We lived in the middle of the river.
16:33 I had to go to her house.
16:35 I was so embarrassed.
16:37 In the dry season,
16:38 the river was blocked.
16:39 I couldn't go there.
16:40 I was late for work.
16:42 It was weird.
16:43 My eldest daughter got married.
16:46 My second daughter got married.
16:47 I didn't care.
16:48 My third daughter also dropped out of school.
16:51 I thought I had lost everything.
16:54 I was worried about my family.
16:56 I thought I was too good at school.
16:58 I thought I should focus on my family.
17:00 I was not good at school.
17:03 I was average.
17:04 I thought I should quit school.
17:06 I thought I should focus on my family.
17:09 In 2003,
17:15 Nhan dropped out of college.
17:17 I was so sad.
17:18 I couldn't laugh.
17:19 I was so stupid.
17:20 I wanted to help my family.
17:23 I didn't want to make my father sad.
17:25 I didn't know how to make him happy.
17:28 I didn't know if he could afford to send me to college.
17:31 I had to study for 4 years.
17:32 I had no money left.
17:34 I didn't know why he had to do that.
17:36 I didn't have money to support my father.
17:38 I was so sad.
17:39 I was so happy.
17:40 My youngest son was in 9th or 10th grade.
17:45 He was in the middle school.
17:48 He was in the class of the class president.
17:50 He could have studied in a public school.
17:53 But he couldn't afford to study in a public school.
17:55 He had to pay for the tuition.
17:56 He said,
17:58 "I can afford to send you to college.
18:00 But I have to worry about you."
18:01 I said, "I want you to study."
18:04 "But if I force you to quit,
18:07 you will not be able to study."
18:10 "It's because you don't allow me to study."
18:12 "If you allow me to study, I can study."
18:14 "But I have to quit school."
18:16 "So my third daughter will have to quit school."
18:19 "She will go to university tomorrow."
18:20 "I have nothing to do in my hometown."
18:22 "I will study tomorrow."
18:23 "My son said, "I will let you study."
18:26 "So he went to study."
18:29 "He will focus on taking care of my son."
18:32 I was so happy when he was in college.
18:37 I didn't have any bad things.
18:41 I was healthy.
18:43 We are happy now.
18:46 I took care of my son at home.
18:49 He was a social worker.
18:54 He was a social worker.
18:56 We were happy.
18:58 My husband's father-in-law said,
19:00 "He gave you a job. Why don't you get married?"
19:03 My parents said,
19:05 "If you get married, you will be dead."
19:07 Oh my God.
19:08 My husband's father-in-law said,
19:10 "How can I go if my parents say so?"
19:12 "My son is a good son."
19:15 "I will give him a job to live with me."
19:18 "But I don't know what to do if he doesn't let me go."
19:22 "My parents don't like it. I don't know what to do."
19:25 You have given him so much love and affection for the past few decades.
19:32 So he wrote you a letter.
19:35 This is the first letter, right?
19:37 Yes.
19:38 Are you surprised?
19:39 Yes.
19:40 I will read it for you.
19:42 Are you sure?
19:43 Yes.
19:44 Dear Kieu Oanh's mother,
19:46 Kieu Oanh is the first daughter, right?
19:48 Yes.
19:49 I am very grateful that life has brought you to me.
19:52 You are the most perfect and wonderful half of my life.
19:57 We have lived together for 45 years and have gone through many difficulties.
20:02 Do you remember?
20:03 In 1982, when you were pregnant in August,
20:07 you still went with me to harvest rice in the rainy season.
20:11 We stayed up all night to remember that memory.
20:14 I can't forget it.
20:16 It was because of that hard work that Tua was born 20 days earlier.
20:21 The house was small and the water was leaking.
20:26 The whole family sat by the water,
20:30 but we still loved each other.
20:32 Dear, I am so happy that I have accompanied you and shared the sweet and sour rice with you for 45 years.
20:39 We are good children.
20:41 I hope that in the next 45 years, we will go to the end of this happy road together.
