The prolific actor/writer/director is taking on imaginary friends in his latest movie, but the idea didn't come from Rik Mayall's 90s favourite. Report by Nelsonj. Like us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/itn and follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/itn

00:00Congratulations on the film. Congratulations on sticking the landing on Jack Ryan as well,
00:03man.
00:04Thank you very much.
00:05Love that series.
00:06Wow, thank you.
00:07Now, if one of my most beloved childhood movies was Drop Dead Fred with the dearly departed
00:10Rick and Male, BB-8, did that prove any sort of inspiration in the creative process of
00:15this?
00:16Not really, other than I like that movie. No, this was all done for and inspired by
00:21my kids.
00:22Another aspect I liked about this is the fact that your old imaginary boss you kind of turned
00:26the tables on, employee Mr. Steve Carell. How was that experience for you, kind of
00:30turning things around? How is he as an employee?
00:33I wish I could say he was an employee. He was the star of the show whenever he came
00:36into the ADR booth. He was so, so amazingly kind and sweet to do this movie, and he's
00:41so funny. I wrote it for him, so.
00:42And working with Ryan, seems like the kind of guy you can start doing a movie with, and
00:45before you know it, you're godfather to his next child, and you're investing in a new
00:49island with him. What's that relationship been like? What's he like to be around and
00:53work on a project like this?
00:54Ryan's the best. Anything you would think he would be as a friend, he's better.
00:57He's not got you into the football?
00:59No.
