Gasol powers Spain to Eurobasket trophy

00:00It's becoming a familiar sight in European basketball.

00:08Spain once again crowned the Eurobasket champions for the third time in four attempts with a

00:13dominant display against Lithuania.

00:16Damage done right from the off, Nikola Mirotic the driving force as they took a 19-8 lead

00:21after the first quarter.

00:24From there fellow NBA star Paulo Gasol took the reins, stretching their advantage to as

00:29much as 16.

00:32But Lithuania would deliver blows when it mattered most.

00:37Real Madrid star Jonas Masiulis with the buzzer beating three to make it close.

00:42And despite being down on the scoreboard they never gave up on the ball.

00:45Mindaugas Kuzminskis rewarded with the basket.

00:50But the resistance would only get them so far, Spain's Victor Claver with the maximum

00:54that seemed to drain their opponents.

00:57All that was left was for Gasol to make Eurobasket history in becoming the third highest ever

01:01scorer in the tournament.

01:03The Spanish legend finishing the final with a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds,

01:09becoming the tournament MVP in the process.

01:11When we had our backs against the wall the team responded, reacted well, played its best,

01:17understood that we needed to play defence extremely hard to be able to win and beat

01:22good teams and move on.

01:25Very proud of my teammates, very proud of the coaching staff, they've done a tremendous

01:29job as well.

01:31So it's been an unbelievable tournament, just personally, collectively, it's been something

01:37that I will remember for the rest of my life.
