00:00 So, will they meet in the middle?
00:02 And who will get the best reaction as we get set then for 57 laps?
00:07 The Miami Grand Prix, it's lights out and away we go.
00:10 Verstappen got the best start there and Sainz got a better start than Leclerc,
00:14 who's under pressure from Perez as well.
00:15 Verstappen leads it at turn one.
00:17 Perez locks up, almost takes out Sainz.
00:19 Leclerc slips through to second place.
00:21 Norris now into third place ahead of Carlos Sainz.
00:25 Leclerc on the front of the grid gets a slow start in the Ferrari.
00:29 He's already been passed by his teammate.
00:31 And look, Perez comes through.
00:33 Did he almost tag his teammate?
00:35 And that's what allowed Leclerc and then Piastri past Sainz.
00:41 Piastri was nowhere near the scene of second place up until Perez made his lockup.
00:46 And it just opened so beautifully for him.
00:50 Sergio Perez has been noted, by the way, for a false start.
00:55 And that's exactly what I thought.
00:57 How he nearly had contact again coming back on.
00:59 Exactly what I thought.
01:00 He was so busy, so focused on the Ferraris that were squeezing him,
01:04 that he just got too deep into the corner.
01:06 Here he comes.
01:07 What the f*** was that?
01:09 Yeah, I saw it.
01:10 Yeah, that was...
01:11 That was a ripple.
01:13 Understood. We're reporting.
01:16 And now there's a two Alpines are really going for it here.
01:20 Gasly on the inside.
01:21 And it's the man Ocon gets squeezed a bit by his teammate.
01:24 Ocon goes down the inside.
01:26 Forces his teammate towards the wall.
01:28 Somehow Gasly stayed away from it.
01:30 And they are still going wheel to wheel down that back straight.
01:34 There's Verstappen at the end of it.
01:36 Into turn 17.
01:37 Making a move.
01:38 Nico Hülkenberg looking at Lewis Hamilton.
01:40 And here come the Alpines behind them.
01:42 Gasly with Alex Albon now trying to make a move.
01:45 Gasly's got a hit of Esteban Ocon.
01:47 And he's made that move stick.
01:48 But now is Charles Leclerc going to be under a little bit of pressure
01:52 from Oscar Piastri when he gets the DRS?
01:55 There's only about 11 kilometers an hour of extra speed with it.
01:58 But it is a helping hand.
02:00 And it is helping Piastri.
02:01 And Oscar Piastri looks like he's going for it here.
02:04 And through into the hairpin at turn 17.
02:06 Oscar Piastri slides down McLaren past the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.
02:10 Lewis Hamilton where he's just been told by Bono, his race engineer, Pete Bonington.
02:14 Just concentrate on that exit.
02:16 You get a good exit there.
02:18 Your foot's going to be flat to the floor for a little while.
02:20 And you might just be gaining on the Haas and be in a position to overtake.
02:24 When you get to turn 11.
02:26 And look at that.
02:26 It was a good exit.
02:27 And he is in a position to overtake.
02:29 And for the second time in this race,
02:31 he manages to get past Nikkel Hülkenberg into turn 11.
02:34 Here comes George Russell then.
02:36 He's got DRS.
02:37 Hülkenberg hasn't.
02:38 Russell goes down the inside.
02:40 And the Mercedes gets past the Haas.
02:42 Goes deep.
02:43 Should hang on to it though.
02:44 Around this long, slow, winding right-hander.
02:48 And there'll be no chance for an overtake now
02:50 until they get down the back straight towards turn 17.
02:53 Great straight line speed as well.
02:55 As we saw there.
02:56 What's going to happen here?
02:58 That's Alex Albon getting past at Lance Stroll
03:01 into turn 11.
03:03 Stroll is going to fight that one.
03:05 And off the track goes Alex Albon.
03:07 But as he comes back onto the track,
03:09 he is ahead of the Aston Martin.
03:11 How do you sort that one out?
03:13 He'll be told to hand the place back, won't he?
03:16 He'll have to.
03:17 And the team should do that straightaway.
03:19 He's clearly got...
03:20 Here comes Lando Norris once again.
03:22 Is he going to go for it this time, we ask?
03:24 He's going to have to go the long way round
03:26 or try the cutback.
03:28 Sergio Perez has both options covered
03:30 before he dives into the pit.
03:33 We've not had slow laps behind the safety car.
03:36 So, Sainz is the car ahead.
03:38 We should go after him rather than protecting Perez.
03:41 Yeah, agreed.
03:42 I'll go get him.
03:43 This is Sergio Perez.
03:47 Ted mentioned it.
03:48 Behind Esteban Ocon.
03:50 And that's Sergio Perez going through
03:52 with a slightly grippier set of hard compound tyres.
03:55 Meanwhile, here's Charles Leclerc
03:57 behind Lewis Hamilton.
03:59 He goes to the inside
04:01 and expects Charles Leclerc to go the long way round.
04:03 That was very, very tight
04:05 and very clean and fair too.
04:07 Nice move by Charles Leclerc
04:09 to get round there and stay on the track.
04:11 Hamilton left him just enough room.
04:13 Leclerc said, "Thanks for that.
04:15 I'm still going to hang it out."
04:16 And he moves himself back up into the top five.
04:19 That'll bring a lot of people in.
04:20 I wonder if it's this man that hit it.
04:22 If it's he, take the front seat.
04:24 Understood.
04:25 I was just going to say,
04:28 he had a lap time deleted, Max Verstappen,
04:30 for exceeding track limits at Turn 15
04:32 through that frilly little chicane bit.
04:34 And there's confirmation
04:35 that it was indeed Max Verstappen
04:37 that's hit the bollard.
04:38 Here it goes.
04:39 Right there.
04:41 Yes.
04:42 And then he carries it around.
04:43 I think if that sits on the racing line
04:46 or just off the racing line,
04:48 he's had to abandon going through the chicane properly
04:51 and scooped up the bollard.
04:54 And it's a passenger for a little while.
04:57 It's unusual to see mistakes like that
04:59 from Max Verstappen.
05:00 And there it goes.
05:01 And it bounces back into the middle of the track.
05:04 Virtual safety car.
05:06 Yes.
05:07 George Russell saying the cone has blown onto the racing line.
05:11 As he says that, we have a virtual safety car.
05:14 Race now gets neutralized.
05:16 Yes, look at this.
05:17 It's actually rolled back towards the wall.
05:19 Someone might have hit it.
05:20 Yes, they've got to get rid of that.
05:22 That weighs too much to risk being flicked up
05:26 into the crowd, into the marshal posts
05:29 or into another driver's face.
05:31 None of the leading cars were anywhere near
05:34 the pit lane entry
05:36 when the virtual safety car came back.
05:38 But they'd all gone past it.
05:39 Ocon, Alonso and Magnussen did all make a pit stop.
05:42 Gasly down into Turn 17.
05:44 Down the inside goes Alonso.
05:47 Manages to hold the place.
05:49 Gasly by the time he attempts to switch back,
05:52 Alonso is a car left ahead.
05:54 This is Esteban Ocon on Nico Hülkenberg.
05:57 That Turn 11 seems to be quite a favorable place
06:00 to overtake here, Martin.
06:02 That headwind into this corner is probably helping.
06:05 For a brief moment, a double yellow flag being waved
06:08 down towards Turn 2.
06:10 I think it might have been...
06:11 Oh, no, it's that. It's Kevin Magnussen.
06:14 I say somebody has just gone off the track
06:17 and he has hit the wall.
06:18 And Logan Sargent's involved as well.
06:20 Oh, and in his home race,
06:22 Logan Sargent's rear wing is at an angle
06:25 that does not make me think he's coming back out
06:27 into this race.
06:28 And how is this going to play into the hands
06:30 of Lando Norris?
06:32 Couldn't be better.
06:33 Could not be better for Lando Norris.
06:35 He'll get a cheap pit stop,
06:36 feed straight back in,
06:37 it'll gain 10 seconds through that.
06:39 Let's see how this one unfolds.
06:41 Going down the outside, it all looks fairly normal.
06:44 They just touch.
06:46 Turn 1, they got round,
06:50 and now Magnussen holds it round the outside.
06:53 Was he entitled to a bit more room
06:57 under the driving guidelines?
06:59 Certainly, Logan Sargent would have wished
07:01 he'd have given him more room,
07:02 because they might still be racing around
07:04 on this track.
07:05 Let's have a look on board with the Williams.
07:08 Didn't know he was there, did he?
07:10 It's a pretty unorthodox place to be trying to overtake.
07:14 I want to see it from...
07:16 Yeah, his front axle wasn't alongside.
07:19 And he is now on lap 32
07:22 with a safety car ending
07:24 in the lead of the Miami Grand Prix.
07:26 And he has got a blast to the finish now
07:28 to get that wrist record off his resume.
07:31 When does he go?
07:33 Now he goes!
07:34 I thought he would have stayed a little bit longer
07:37 to keep Verstappen behind him.
07:39 He's dragging him down the pit straight,
07:41 gone for the inside line.
07:43 And look at the Ferrari steaming in there as well.
07:45 Lando just keeping it in play.
07:47 Charles Leclerc in third place.
07:50 Behind him, Oscar Piastri.
07:51 Carlos Sainz under pressure,
07:53 because he got rather pinched into turn 1.
07:55 Sergio Perez nearly got him.
07:57 Behind them, Sonoda, Hamilton, Russell,
07:59 and Ocon in the top 10.
08:01 Norris leads Verstappen.
08:04 Carlos Sainz is putting Oscar Piastri under pressure too.
08:07 Sainz trying to go around the outside of Piastri.
08:10 Has he got that move done?
08:11 No, Piastri comes back at him,
08:13 forces Sainz off the track.
08:15 Not sure if they touched or not,
08:16 but it was very, very close.
08:18 And Verstappen holds on against Sergio Perez.
08:21 This incident,
08:22 leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
08:25 Did he push him off there?
08:28 And they tied it.
08:29 Yes, he pushed him off there, and they touched too.
08:32 Well, Piastri didn't actually leave the track, did he?
08:34 No.
08:35 Carlos Sainz didn't get the advantage, but...
08:37 Clear.
08:38 Yeah, yeah, we are on it.
08:40 Yeah, I can see why Carlos is upset about it,
08:44 but, you know, he came up the inside,
08:46 he kept his car under control.
08:48 That, for me, is just hard racing.
08:50 This is Hamilton on Sonoda.
08:52 Sonoda goes deep, and then Hamilton hangs it out
08:55 around that right-hand side.
08:57 Gibson trying to cut him off,
08:59 realized that Lewis Hamilton's wheels were there.
09:01 Carlos Sainz gets very close to Oscar Piastri.
09:04 Going into Turn 17,
09:07 Piastri, foot to the floor now,
09:09 manages to pull away,
09:11 and the stewards have decided,
09:13 no further investigation.
09:14 A couple of laps ago, Turn 11,
09:16 when Sainz went off track,
09:17 it looked like you were ahead at the apex of the corner.
09:20 Ferrari think you should give the position up,
09:22 but we do not.
09:23 And neither do the stewards.
09:26 No further investigation.
09:27 Carlos is going to have to try again on that one.
09:30 Another 11 kilometers an hour of extra speed
09:32 as there goes Carlos Sainz down the inside at Turn 17.
09:35 Oh, and he couldn't keep the car under control!
09:37 And it just stepped out at the back end.
09:40 Piastri had a jam on the brakes.
09:42 Sainz forced his way through.
09:44 Carlos Sainz up into fourth place,
09:46 but Piastri is coming back at him.
09:49 And into Turn 1, the Australian gets ahead again.
09:52 There's a lock-up, and he's gone wide!
09:54 And now Sainz can go through and claim that fourth place
09:57 and maybe just relax a little touch.
10:00 He seems to be struggling a touch.
10:02 And Kevin Magnussen has picked up yet another new penalty
10:05 for this weekend, which is some achievement
10:07 given the amount that he's had.
10:08 Perez ahead of Hamilton, ahead of Piastri.
10:11 Wow! Piastri loses two places in one corner.
10:15 Yeah, he's on his back foot, isn't he, Piastri?
10:18 He's lost his rhythm.
10:20 And those two in Perez and Hamilton
10:24 would give him, cut him no slack whatsoever.
10:27 I think Oscar Piastri, I said about vibrations on his tyres,
10:30 he's got front wing damage as well.
10:32 Oscar, we see front wing damage.
10:34 We see front wing damage,
10:35 so we think we should box and replace the front wing.
10:38 Well, we've got his boss on the pit wall,
10:41 and maybe in terms of Grand Prix wins,
10:43 it's born in the USA for Lando Norris this weekend.
10:47 That is where the front wing got damaged.
10:49 Contact with Carlos Sainz.
10:51 And whilst, if he's had a shade of luck for Lando Norris,
10:54 the bad luck has gone Oscar's way in the last couple of laps.
10:57 Yeah, I mean, it completely broke the wing.
11:00 They were absolutely right to change that.
11:02 And that'll be why he would have lost downforce,
11:05 he'd have lost front grip.
11:07 Stroll looking for a move past Daniel Ricciardo there.
11:10 Not quite happening for him,
11:11 but he's picking up a really good slipstream
11:13 down the main straight here.
11:15 Pulls out behind Ricciardo.
11:17 Lost a bit of downforce, didn't he,
11:18 as he pulled out behind the RB there.
11:20 And that cost him a bit for grip.
11:22 But he's going round the outside,
11:23 and he's going to try and make that move stick.
11:25 And by the time he appears from behind the temporary grandstands,
11:29 he is up.
11:30 Fernando Alonso on Esteban Ocon once more.
11:35 One of five drivers this year to have scored in every single Grand Prix.
11:39 Would dearly love two points rather than one, wouldn't he?
11:41 There goes Alonso, round the outside.
11:43 This time he's got the move done.
11:45 He's into the braking zone well ahead of the Alpine.
11:48 Ocon couldn't fight it any longer.
11:50 Trying to make a move on Valtteri Bottas as well.
11:52 Trying to break the toe, Alex Albon.
11:54 He's got Lance Stroll sticking very close to him.
11:58 Lance Stroll goes off the track,
11:59 comes back out on the track,
12:01 ahead of the Williams.
12:03 Now we're all four wheels off the track there.
12:05 Albon's lost one place to Stroll,
12:08 and now he's lost another place to Joe Guadagno.
12:11 Here comes Daniel Ricciardo on Alex Albon.
12:13 Massive lock-up from Alex Albon.
12:15 Goes straight into the run-off area,
12:17 and that lets by one, two, three, and four cars.
12:20 Doesn't look like it'll be a safety car, though, does it?
12:22 He pirouetted it around and carried on.
12:25 Ted, down to you.
12:27 It's this fear of the safety car that's really gripped everybody on the McLaren team.
12:31 Pit wall, Tom Stallard, Oscar Piastri's engineer,
12:34 just reminding Oscar, "Look, Oscar, it's Lando who's leading.
12:38 We really don't want to cause a safety car here
12:41 to disrupt anything between now and lap 57."
12:44 I'm sure that message was received and understood.
12:47 After this race, 20 drivers from the United Kingdom
12:51 have won a Formula 1 Grand Prix.
12:54 Number 21 is going to be Lando Norris for McLaren.
12:59 The McLaren team will welcome a former president of the United States
13:03 into their garage before the race,
13:05 a race that was meant to be about Max Verstappen.
13:07 But here at the chequered flag, Norris trumps Verstappen
13:12 and wins the Miami Grand Prix
13:15 and wins the Grand Prix for the first time in his career.
13:20 Lando has landed.
13:23 Max Verstappen comes home to finish second.
13:26 Charles Leclerc completes the podium.
13:28 And Zac Brown is going to give fist bumps
13:32 to 200,000 Formula 1 fans in Miami tonight
13:35 because this could be his and Lando's greatest day at the racetrack ever.
13:41 You've done it, mate. You've done it.
13:43 White, 8, 11, position 12. White, 8, 11, position 12.
13:48 Woo!
13:51 Woo!
13:53 [LAUGHS]
13:55 Oh, my...
13:57 I love you all. I love you all. Thank you so much.
14:01 We did it, Will!
14:03 We did it!
14:05 [CROWD CHEERING]
14:07 [MUSIC PLAYING]
14:10 [MUSIC PLAYING]
14:39 Lando Norris, victory for Verstappen, Leclerc,
14:42 Sainz, Perez, Hamilton, Sonoda in seventh, Russell,

14:51 He lost one driver from this race, Logan Sargent in the Williams.

14:59 (upbeat music)
