Opening of Gourock Outdoor Pool 2024

Gourock Outdoor Pool is a salt water public lido in Gourock, Inverclyde, Scotland. It is the oldest heated swimming pool in Scotland.

The pool is heated and uses salt water taken from the Firth of Clyde. The water is filtered, cleaned and maintained at a minimum temperature of 29 °C (84 °F). Facilities include a gym and a children's pool. The lido opens from May to the first week in September.

The pool is managed by Inverclyde Leisure.

The lido was opened in 1909,[3] and the water heating system was installed in 1969.

It was closed at the end of the 2010 summer season for a major improvement project, which was completed before the end of 2011. The existing changing accommodation was replaced with a more modern leisure centre, incorporating an enlarged gymnasium and lift access from the street level down to the new changing accommodation and the upgraded pool.

A 2004 photograph of the pool by Martin Parr was used as the album cover for The Ballad of Darren (2023) by rock band Blur.

Enjoy open air swimming in our heated saltwater pool whilst taking in the spectacular views of the Clyde Estuary.
Refurbished with modern and contemporary changing facilities, a pool terrace with truly stunning vistas, and improved disabled access with street level parking, Gourock Pool offers a first class leisure experience.

00:33 My name is Mark McFarlane, I'm the Facilities Manager here at Gourauk Outdoor Pool.
00:37 Gourauk Pool is opening today for the season.
00:39 The big jump in takes place at four o'clock today.
00:41 We have a no booking system, customers can just turn up and pay at our reception kiosk
00:46 and our opening times are on our website.
00:50 We're expecting a good turnout, there's a lot of demand for Gourauk Pool.
00:53 I know some people who have not swam since last summer have missed it greatly,
00:58 so they'll be obviously very excited to come back.
01:00 Gourauk Pool is one of only two heated saltwater pools in Scotland.
01:03 We heat our water to 29 degrees Celsius, so it's lovely and warm.
01:08 The pool draws customers from all over the UK.
01:11 We have visitors as far as Canada and further afield.
01:14 Gourauk Pool is open seven days a week.
01:15 We're open right through to the end of September.
01:18 Returning this year are our ever-popular Starlet Swims.
01:21 So much so has been the demand, we've actually increased our offering of the Starlet Swims
01:27 and we're doing them every week throughout the summer period.
01:29 So our Starlet Swims run on a Wednesday evening between 10 o'clock and 12.
01:33 It's an opportunity for customers to come along and swim under the stars at Gourauk Pool.
01:37 It's very, very popular.
01:41 It's always a kind of sell-out for us, so book your tickets in advance.
01:44 We also have our annual Inverclyde Leisure Triathlon that takes place.
01:48 And also, the very last day of the season, we'll be hosting the ever-popular Doggy Swim again.
01:53 If it's your first time coming along, I think you'd be absolutely blown away with the
01:56 standard of facilities we have here.
01:58 And you look around at the panoramic views, it's just an outstanding facility.
