00:00 There's that joke about Gen Z where they wear two pieces of clothes that don't match
00:03 in a pair of cowboy boots and think it's a cute outfit.
00:06 And even though I am not Gen Z, I am so guilty of that.
00:10 Hi, I'm Maisie Schloss and I have a brand called Maisie Willen and today I'm here to
00:14 show you some of my favorite pieces from my wardrobe.
00:18 So my personal style is very colorful, very print driven, very playful.
00:23 I love anything that can make me smile or almost seems a little goofy.
00:28 I'm so drawn to things that aren't too serious.
00:30 I think this actually comes from my thrifting love because when I'm shopping in a big thrift
00:35 warehouse the things that are bright are what sticks out on a rack of thousands of pieces.
00:40 But I also just think it's so much fun to play with clashing prints and you know it
00:44 can add just so much to an outfit.
00:46 It seems more exciting to me.
00:47 Okay, so I'll start with this dress.
00:52 So this I feel like is just such a Maisie piece.
00:56 On most days you'll find me driving around LA in a big, brightly printed, muumuu type
01:00 dress.
01:01 If you know my design aesthetic at all you know I love a big bold print.
01:06 And also I'm truly a vintage girl.
01:08 I love nothing more than thrifting and going to big warehouse and sorting through everything
01:14 till I find a treasure like this.
01:16 I also cut off the hem which is something I do a lot, although in the past few years
01:20 I've started wearing a few of the full lengths.
01:23 So next is this Mickey and Minnie two-sided little t-shirt dress.
01:28 I just love cartoons in general.
01:30 I love old cartoons and I just love anything that's really cute on it.
01:35 Like a cute character I'm such a sucker for.
01:38 But I love this too because it's a bit older and tattered.
01:41 It has a bit of an edge, almost like a punk edge to it more so than something you'd get
01:46 you know box fresh at the park today.
01:49 I do love Minnie Mouse.
01:50 I actually have a Minnie Mouse tattoo on my leg.
01:53 And when I got it done I intentionally had the tattoo artist make it a little messed
01:57 up because I love it when they're a bit taken out of their sort of polished image.
02:04 So another Disney thing, I promise I'm not like a Disney adult, but I do love a cartoon.
02:11 Is this insane like men's 70s work shirt.
02:15 But if you look up close Mickey, Minnie and Donald are the Dutch masters.
02:20 This is just some truly incredible print design.
02:23 As a print designer I just wonder how this came to be.
02:28 Honestly Disney if you are interested in doing some very strange licensing like this again
02:32 please call me.
02:34 So here's another thrift find that I really treasure.
02:37 It's an LVMH t-shirt and on the back has all of their properties listed.
02:43 It almost looks like they sponsored a fun run or something.
02:45 Honestly because it's a thrift store find I don't know the origin story of this but
02:50 it's just so funny to me.
02:52 Something about me is I love oddity attractions.
02:56 Any sort of like world's biggest basket or like the celebrity pet cemetery.
03:01 I love learning about them.
03:03 I love traveling to strange places to see them.
03:06 And this shirt which is from the official center of the world in Felicity, California
03:11 is a perfect example of one such attraction.
03:14 Its history is too weird and long to explain in this video so I encourage you all to do
03:18 the research and hopefully visit it.
03:21 But I love this because it reminds me of going there and also out of context it almost looks
03:26 like a weird cult t-shirt which I think is funny and cool.
03:30 So this gets a lot of wear in my rotation.
03:33 This isn't even all of the faux animal print miniskirts I own.
03:38 I'm a super fan of the movie Josie and the Pussycats which came out when I was a kid.
03:44 I'm convinced I've seen it more than anyone else on earth including the people who worked
03:48 on it.
03:49 Like I watch it all the time.
03:51 And it was so formative for my aesthetic.
03:54 And these skirts feel very Josie and the Pussycats.
03:57 And honestly like even with a t-shirt if I'm not in a brightly printed muumuu I'm probably
04:05 in an outfit like this.
04:07 It's just so easy and so cute for me.
04:09 Like this with some flats I can go anywhere.
04:13 So this is a jacket I got from a vintage dealer.
04:17 But I love it because of this very dramatic feathered picture collar.
04:22 I just think I look like an evil villain in this.
04:27 It's really over the top looking.
04:29 Just this insane neckline and shoulders.
04:32 So I just think it's such a fun piece this little jacket.
04:36 So here is a dress from my first collection of Maisie Willen.
04:41 It just is such a Maisie Willen dress in that it's in our signature featherweight jersey
04:45 which is so lightweight and comfortable and honestly the most flattering fabric.
04:51 And it also has a print designed by me on it.
04:53 I'm so proud of this dress.
04:55 It's one of the first pieces that put us on the map and got us some recognition.
05:00 And honestly I'm just really proud of the design too.
05:04 The print is so dynamic.
05:05 It has this flocking which gives it a bit of dimension.
05:09 The cut really looks great on everyone.
05:11 And yeah, it's an early piece that I'm so proud of.
05:14 This is a very recent Maisie Willen piece.
05:17 It's from our last collection.
05:19 We call this the perforated gown.
05:21 Probably what I've become most known for are my perforated sets.
05:24 So typically it's this fabric with the turtleneck and leggings.
05:28 And they've just blown up.
05:30 Anybody who tries them on really gets it.
05:34 These holes really expand and contract in the right places.
05:38 And even for a fabric that looks so skimpy, it really gives you that hold that you want
05:43 from something that's skin tight.
05:45 So they feel great on and they've also become so popular.
05:50 So I started offering the material in new shapes.
05:53 And I think this new silhouette for it is just so beautiful with the open neckline and
05:58 the cutout.
05:59 I'm excited to have it released this month in stores.
06:03 This dress I bought when I was working in the suburbs of Florence.
06:07 I was at their equivalent of like a Dollar Tree.
06:11 And they were selling a bunch of these dresses for kids.
06:14 If anybody knows this correctly, please DM me and give me the answer.
06:17 But I think these are actually what Italian kids wear to school.
06:21 And then also with my sweater, I'm wearing a pair of trousers from my latest collection.
06:26 These are actually from our men's collection that we're launching this season, which is
06:31 going to be in stores in a matter of weeks.
06:34 So that's rewarding because I'm always trying to expand the categories we offer at Maisie
06:38 Bullen.
06:39 These represent our expansion and growth over the years.
06:43 And I love them.
06:44 They just have a cool sort of alien print to them.
06:48 They're a little spooky, but I can see myself wearing them every day.
06:53 So this is another jacket I thrifted.
06:56 I believe it's vintage Comme des Garcons, although I'm not positive.
07:00 But the craftsmanship of it is just so stunning.
07:02 It has these interwoven silk pieces that kind of have movement to them through how they're
07:09 constructed.
07:10 Whenever I'm thrifting, I love searching for these hyper unusual pieces that feel like
07:17 one of a kind.
07:20 Just anything like this sticks out to me.
07:21 I'll grab it instantly.
07:24 So here is a necklace by Tom Binns.
07:28 I actually worked for them as my first job out of college.
07:31 I was doing retail in their New York shop.
07:36 And I just love the details on this.
07:39 If you look up close, they're little gold-plated screws.
07:42 Okay, this next necklace is my compass.
07:45 I actually wore this nearly every single day for parts of high school and college.
07:49 It was like a seven-year period where I wore this daily.
07:52 It used to actually be functional.
07:55 And pre-having an iPhone, I would actually use this four directions when I would go out.
07:59 It was handy, but wearing it every day, it's fallen apart a bit.
08:04 I put it on a chain.
08:05 And then the supporting charms kind of have evolved over time.
08:10 I currently have this little cat, rabbit's foot.
08:14 This is one of those, you know, picture viewer type things from an old vacation.
08:19 But I love how chunky it is.
08:22 And it really adds so much to any silhouette.
08:26 So as I said earlier, I'm a sucker for anything cute and cartoony.
08:30 And honestly, this doesn't have that special of an origin story.
08:33 I got it recently at the Sherman Oaks Mall.
08:36 Best part is he has a tail.
08:39 But I just love this type of playful, light-hearted accessory in my closet.
08:45 So this is a vintage Margiela purse.
08:49 It's in their signature style with the clasp sides, this beautiful pony hair.
08:55 I think it's just so stunningly made.
08:57 But also, when I bought it, I was at this consignment shop.
09:01 And I think there was a guy there working that I think was like the husband of the owner.
09:06 He didn't really know what was going on.
09:09 There was no price on it.
09:10 I asked how much it was.
09:11 And he was pointing to the tag inside, which is a signature Margiela tag with the numbers
09:16 and they circle the relevant collection.
09:19 But he kept saying to me, "See, it has a serial code.
09:22 It proves it's really valuable.
09:23 It has a tag quality.
09:24 It has a serial code."
09:25 I was just biting my tongue going, "Uh-huh."
09:27 And then he quoted me like next to nothing for it because he didn't know what he had.
09:33 And I feel like it was such a win.
09:35 So here are my cowboy boots.
09:37 I wear them all the time.
09:39 There's that joke about Gen Z where they wear two pieces of clothes that don't match in
09:43 a pair of cowboy boots and think it's a cute outfit.
09:46 And even though I am not Gen Z, I am so guilty of that.
09:50 I think that these are just complete anything.
09:52 I love wearing them.
09:54 They perfect any outfit, the little cards.
09:58 It's incredible how I ended up with these because I was at a friend's house once and
10:03 she had a vintage, I think it was like an early '80s Playboy on her coffee table.
10:07 And I was flipping through it and the centerfold was wearing nothing but these boots.
10:12 And I was like, "Wow, those are incredible.
10:14 Those are such cool boots."
10:16 And then a few days later, I wasn't even particularly searching for them, but they came up on my
10:21 For You page on Etsy in my size.
10:23 It just seemed like such incredible luck, so I snagged them right away and have been
10:28 wearing them a ton ever since.
10:31 I really love them.
10:32 Outside of Florence, where I once spent a lot of time for work, is a incredible Prada
10:38 outlet.
10:39 And because it's near their factory and their headquarters, I think that they sell some
10:44 sort of like one-offs there and some runway pieces.
10:48 So these boots, I got there.
10:50 And I'm not positive of this, but I think they might be a runway sample.
10:55 But they're just so special to me with these carved wooden heels, all of the leather patchwork.
11:01 I think they're so beautiful.
11:02 And yeah, if you ever have a chance to go to the Florence outlets, these were like 50
11:08 bucks.
11:09 So unsurprisingly, more cute stuff.
11:12 I'm just obsessed with these little pink bunny heels.
11:15 They're so sweet, but they also feel so vintage.
11:18 Honestly, I do wear these a lot.
11:21 I think they're just perfect for any outfit.
11:23 I love that they have the little eyes.
11:25 I found them randomly from an Instagram shop that was pretty small called Street Z's.
11:32 But I just think they're perfect.
11:37 So these are one of the four pairs of sneakers with my collaboration with Keds.
11:43 Working with Keds just seemed really fresh to me.
11:46 I really associated with when I was in high school.
11:48 I was in high school during a peak indie sleaze, late 2000s era.
11:56 And this is what we were all wearing at the time.
11:58 This is what the cool kids had on either their little canvas sneakers going everywhere.
12:04 They felt so indie to me.
12:07 So they felt nostalgic.
12:08 But at the same time, as a print-based brand, these are literally a blank canvas for my
12:13 artwork.
12:14 So I'm really proud of them.
12:16 I think they're so cute.
12:18 So this is another one of the styles I released with Keds.
12:21 This also feels so nostalgic for me.
12:23 Almost like an Avril Lavigne type of thing with all the studs.
12:26 It's such a practical shoe ultimately.
12:28 You know, just a slide-on sneaker.
12:30 Like I wear these to run to my laundry room.
12:33 I wear these to go to the grocery store.
12:36 But at the same time, they have this absurd element of this being covered in spikes, almost
12:40 like a little hedgehog.
12:41 And it's just been so exciting to see such a commercial piece available from Maisie Bowen.
12:48 And yeah, you can still get them on our website.
12:50 There you have it.
12:51 These are some of my favorite pieces from my wardrobe.
12:53 Thanks for watching.
