Transcript
00:00 Croxedith Hall and Country Park is one of Liverpool's most important heritage sites.
00:06 Join me as I go for a little stroll around its grounds.
00:11 Formerly the home of the Earls of Sefton, inside the building you can step back in time as the house is frozen in the Edwardian era.
00:19 It's also a popular location for filming, they work closely with the Liverpool Film Office.
00:24 The venue is also available for hire for the likes of weddings, functions, conferences, things like that.
00:31 Outside on the grounds of the Country Park is the Victorian walled garden.
00:35 Hidden by its high walls, this secret garden was created on the fertile flood plain of the River Ault.
00:41 A place for growing the finest vegetables, fruit and produce for the Earls' kitchens and dining table.
00:47 Also a place with flower beds to enjoy and paths to stroll along.
00:54 Alongside the walled garden are a series of greenhouses, originally used for the propagation of plants for the garden,
01:00 cultivation of houseplants and cut flowers for the rooms of the Hall.
01:04 It is said that a greenhouse was set aside specifically to grow carnations so that the Earl could wear a fresh buttonhole every day.
01:12 Now following a successful bid which Liverpool City Council submitted to the National Lottery Heritage Fund,
01:18 £245,000 has been awarded which will be invested in creating a permanent home for the historic botanical collection,
01:26 which dates back to 1803 and was founded by William Roscoe.
01:31 Thanks to the money raised by National Lottery players, initial works will get underway to restore the Peach House,
01:36 which will become the gateway to the collection and will house some of the key botanical exhibits.
01:44 Also on site is the Croxeth Park Farm, housing many different species and rare breeds of farm livestock.
01:50 It's one of the biggest rare bred farms in the country, having over 20 different identified as priority or at risk.
