00:00 It's not drag delusion if it's there.
00:03 Right.
00:03 You know what I'm saying?
00:04 There you go.
00:04 It ain't drag delusion if you got it.
00:06 But who needs it?
00:07 Okay, but who needs the vaccine?
00:10 Yeah.
00:10 No comment.
00:11 Hello, I'm Joey Nolfi with Entertainment Weekly here with the cast of RuPaul's Drag Race All
00:21 Stars 9. And let me just say, it is endlessly hilarious to me that the phrase commonly associated
00:27 with my next guest is "ugly b****" because I mean, look at the material. So if you think
00:33 there's an actual correlation there, you need to check yourself as I welcome back the goddess
00:39 herself, Angeria Paris Van Michaels. I am so happy to have you here, Angeria. How are you?
00:44 Oh my god. Hey, sugar. I miss you.
00:49 I've missed you as well.
00:50 I do. I miss you so much. Like, it's been a while.
00:53 I have been waiting for the day for her to call me sugar again because like,
00:57 I mean, just hearing that all throughout season 14, it is so lovely. I have to know though,
01:02 are you sick of people quoting "ugly b****" to you?
01:05 You know, it's a very interesting catchphrase to have, but you know, I wouldn't change it for
01:12 the world. I mean, you know, I could be telling people to look over there, but instead I get to
01:17 call people "ugly b****" for a living. Like, I mean, it's kind of funny because you kind of have
01:21 to, I have to check myself sometimes.
01:23 It's comparative.
01:24 Because you don't know sometimes if they really calling me an ugly b**** because I'm ugly or they
01:29 watch the show. Like, there's nothing like somebody coming up to me and being like,
01:33 "ugly b****" and then they like, "oh, you was on Drag Race?" And I'm like, "oh."
01:39 That is, I'm so-
01:40 So you just think I'm ugly.
01:41 No, no, no, no, no, no.
01:43 But it's fun. It's fun. It's, you know, it's sickening. Yeah. I get it all the time. I get
01:47 checked too, a lot.
01:49 Well, nobody could look at this and think that this is, I mean, come on, come on. This look
01:53 is just next level.
01:54 Thank you.
01:54 And this is part of the reason why we are so happy to see you back on All Stars 9. I'm so
01:59 excited every time I get to say it. It's your first time as a contestant since season 14. But
02:03 for those who don't know, Njeri has actually been a recurring presence on Drag Race. Your voice
02:08 can be heard at the beginning of several talent show songs produced by Ocean Kelly saying,
02:14 "Ocean, I need a bop," including, I think, "La La Re," "Candy Muse," just to name a few.
02:20 So does this mean you've technically overtaken Jujubee as the contestant on the most seasons?
02:24 Yeah, pretty much. Or if not, it definitely will get there at some point. It will definitely get
02:29 there at some point, I am sure. It's been on, what, like four talent shows so far,
02:35 and now it's probably going to be on more to come, more future seasons. I'm glad I got
02:40 something. So, you know, after I'm long gone and stopped doing drag, I still got something
02:45 that lives on, you know, because I don't know what's going to last longer, me or Drag Race.
02:49 So either way, it's going to be something that's there. So you'll at least, you know,
02:55 when I'm gone, at least "Ocean, I need a bop" will still be there.
02:58 Are you aware of any maybe like secret uses of your voice in Ocean songs that like fans don't
03:08 know about yet that you can point out, like little Easter eggs?
03:10 No, no. But you know, I do like playing like "Where's Waldo" with it because it really does
03:16 feel like that. Like it feels like I'm like, like, because the first time I heard it in
03:22 La La Re song, I didn't even know that he used it. And so I called him and I was like,
03:27 "Oh, so we doing this?" Like, like, this is like your, you know, like your title thing.
03:33 Like when you hear Ocean Kelly track, you hear "Ocean, I need a bop," he said, "Yeah."
03:36 And I was like, "Oh, okay, period." So I didn't know as many people was going to use it,
03:40 like on the show, but I'm like, "Okay, great. Let's capitalize off of this check."
03:45 And check, exactly, exactly. Another check.
03:47 Yeah.
03:48 Now you did return in another way on All Stars 8 as a lip sync assassin. So how did that come
03:55 together? And how do you have any fun, like behind the scenes moments you remember from
03:58 filming that day?
03:59 Honestly, I just remember like seeing all of the people, like from set, like, you know,
04:04 the camera crew, everybody. I'm like, it was like going back to high school. You know what I'm
04:08 saying? Like when you, when you've been out of school, like you go off to college and then you
04:11 come back and you get to see everybody. So, and as soon as I got there, all those people were like
04:18 excited to see me. Like they all were like, "Oh my God, like Angie." So I felt, I felt missed.
04:23 I felt loved. I was like, "Oh my God, they missed me. They knew who that was." And that's how I
04:29 knew that I was going, you know, that's how I knew. In that moment, I knew, "Oh, I'm going to
04:34 be on All Stars." Because they love me.
04:36 Yes, yes.
04:37 They love me.
04:38 They can't get enough.
04:39 That was my confirmation. Okay. The rule, the judges, the camera crew, the, uh, you know,
04:45 the, the lady that put the mic on me, everybody loved me. Everybody loved me. So I'm like,
04:50 "I know I'm coming back. I know I'm going to be on All Stars because everybody missed me."
04:54 Shout out to the lady that puts the mic on Angie.
04:56 Yeah.
04:57 The glue that holds the drive race together.
04:59 She's a little lady too. It's the lady that put the mic on us. Yeah.
05:01 Love her. Love her. So since the show, something else that I loved seeing for you,
05:06 you appeared as an actress on Dynasty. I mean, what a legendary legacy.
05:12 I know.
05:13 To Joy.
05:14 This is who I am and I'm not trying to be anything but myself. If you have to put on
05:19 a breastplate that doesn't even match your skin tone, I need you to press pause, breathe,
05:26 and figure out what's going on with you that forced you into this moment. Is this clicking
05:31 for you, honey?
05:32 Yes, mother.
05:33 How did you land that gig and are there any crazy stories that you have from set
05:37 that you remember with the other actors?
05:38 Honestly, I just remember sitting at home and then they called and were like, "Oh," my manager's
05:46 called and were like, "Are you in Atlanta?" Literally in the next three days. And I was like,
05:52 "Yeah." And they're like, "Oh, well, we got a gig for you on Dynasty." And I'm like,
05:57 "Dynasty what?" I'm like, "Excuse me?"
06:02 And they were like, "Yeah." The reboot, the very last season. And I was like, "Oh my God."
06:08 And it felt incredible, like a full circle moment because Dynasty is probably a reference
06:15 that I get the most with my drag. Even RuPaul on my season compared me to Diane Carroll.
06:23 So RuPaul saying that I give her Diane Carroll, a lot of what I get when I'm in my gowns and
06:29 stuff is very, "Oh, you give me Dynasty." So to get a role on Dynasty when people always tell me,
06:36 "You look like a character on Dynasty." If that's not manifestation, if that is not full circle
06:42 moments, what they call it? Divine intervention.
06:48 There you go.
06:48 That is what it is, ain't it?
06:49 It is what it is.
06:50 Yeah, okay. Divine intervention. That's it.
06:53 Did you get emotional when you got that call?
06:54 I did. I did. If I'm being honest, I really didn't know what the process first,
06:59 the fact that I was on Dynasty or the fact that I had two days to learn the script.
07:04 And I haven't had to learn lines at that point since Daytona Wynn on season 14.
07:13 And that didn't feel great back then. But everybody on set was so nice to me. I just
07:19 remember being in my trailer and some of the actors and actresses on the show were actually
07:24 coming to me and wanting to meet me. I was like, "What?" I was like, "What is going on?
07:29 What is my life right now?" I'm scared. I'm nervous to be in front of all these people
07:35 that I watch on TV, Liz Gillis. That is her name, isn't it? Is that how you say it?
07:40 That's her name. Liz Gillis, yeah.
07:42 Yeah. So even Liz came up to me and was like, "Oh my God, can I have a picture with you?"
07:49 And I'm freaking out. I'm like, "I've been watching you since Victorious. What is my life
07:55 right now?" And the whole day was like that. The director was so nice to me the whole time.
08:01 He was like, "Angie, if you need anything, you need us to give you your lines. You need us to..."
08:08 He was just so patient. It was so bomb. The whole experience was just...
08:12 So great it happened for you. It was a really cool moment. And I think the last time that we saw you
08:19 as a competitor, you did very well in acting challenges. You were so great in them, but you
08:23 also made headlines for your romance, well, quote unquote romance, with Lady Camden. Did you ever
08:30 make it out to the Folsom Fair in San Francisco with her?
08:32 I did not. And it's... I know, gag, right? Because that's crazy. That's crazy that I have not been
08:38 to... And it's funny. I even had somebody literally recognize me today, earlier today,
08:46 before I got into drag, and was like, "I want to go to the fair." And I was like...
08:50 And in my head, I'm like, "I still ain't been to the fair."
08:54 Well, okay. So after All Stars 9, will somebody, Folsom Fair,
08:58 please sponsor a trip for Angeria to the fair, please?
09:02 But honestly, what it is, is it's really my all about because I be into the bag and I be in other
09:08 places. When it comes around, I be on... Yeah. I've been on tour almost every time that it rolls
09:14 around and I'm like, "I want to go." But I'm going. I'm still going. It's fine. I'm still going. I
09:21 kind of have to. You know what I'm saying? It's like bucket list. I got to go.
09:24 I mean, if you're booked and busy, that's a good excuse to not go.
09:26 Yeah. That's a great excuse to not go.
09:28 If your pockets are full.
09:28 I'm like, "Oh, I can't go, but I'm making money." So it's fine. It's all right.
09:32 Money make everything better.
09:34 Did you explore your relationship with Lady Camden outside the show?
09:37 On the show, I think we had taken a liking to each other and stuff. And it was definitely
09:42 something that was more elevated by the show. Because it's like, yeah, we had a fondness for
09:48 each other, but then it was something that grew over time because they shipped us.
09:52 Everybody shipped us.
09:54 The fans did too.
09:56 And the thing is, yes, we already had our own thing going on, our own connection,
10:02 but that just kind of made it like, "Okay." But no, one thing about it, we will always be great
10:10 friends. When I tell you, if anybody from my season still calls me, still checks on me, it's
10:16 still just as happy to see me every time I'm with them, it's Lady Camden every single time.
10:20 That's a beautiful friendship.
10:22 Major support. She even loaned me money.
10:25 For what?
10:26 For "All Stars."
10:28 Ain't that sick, Nick?
10:30 Oh, that is so sweet.
10:31 Now I have to pay the back. I got to pay the back.
10:34 With a winner check.
10:36 But she did. Yeah, she did. She let me hold a little money just to help.
10:42 That's so sweet. I love sisters supporting sisters like that. That's really a very sweet
10:49 thing to hear. I'm so glad for that.
10:49 We're bae sisters. Sister baes.
10:51 Bae sisters, sister baes, you know.
10:55 Did you form any other sister bae connections with an "All Stars 9" queen?
10:58 I did not. I did not.
11:00 Okay.
11:01 Because all them [expletive] ugly.
11:04 Bringing it back to ugly [expletive]
11:07 Because y'all all a bunch of ugly [expletive]
11:09 You know.
11:10 Well, since, I mean, the game, the way that the game is played is also now changing on "All
11:15 Stars 9." So, did you and Georges, your season 14 sister, maybe have an alliance with this season?
11:22 Seeing her even walk through the workroom was like, "Oh, [expletive] I got a friend."
11:26 Like, you know, I do know all of the girls and I have met them at some point.
11:31 But seeing Georges, I mean, that's my little sister. That's my, you know, like, it's different
11:36 with the girls you're on the season with. It just is. And seeing her made me feel so comfortable.
11:40 And I immediately was like, "Okay, we don't have to necessarily say that we got an alliance,
11:45 but you know I got you."
11:47 It's, yeah.
11:48 And you know, it's a diss. It's a diss. And we just got to look at each other like,
11:53 "Like, you know I ain't going, girl." Like, girl. It's like that.
11:57 Well, it's very close after you're on the season already. So that's why I'm just like,
12:00 "Yeah, but we also are close." So that's like one thing. If she was a girl on my season that I just
12:05 didn't like or didn't mesh with, that's one thing. But me and her are like close. So it was like,
12:10 "Oh, [expletive] I got you. You got me." You know, yeah. So alliance, call it what you want to,
12:15 but yeah. She had my back, I had hers. We just going to say that.
12:19 So who from season 14, if they had walked in the door,
12:22 would you not have had that if it was one of the ones that you didn't like, Kanjiria?
12:28 I didn't say it was. I was saying, metaphorically speaking, if there was somebody that I did not
12:38 mesh with. But see, that's the thing though. I was on the kumbaya season. You know what I mean?
12:42 Like we all got along. Well, also on season 14, I mean,
12:45 the snatch game, we do have to talk about it. When everyone was collectively punished,
12:50 it was the kumbaya season until that moment. There are very few jokes coming out. Like,
12:55 like, like there's no funny. What did you learn from snatch game last time?
13:00 And do you think you went into it maybe better prepared this time?
13:03 I can never get away from this moment because somebody has to always bring it up. No, just.
13:09 I love it personally. I love it. This time, honestly, I just chose a character that
13:16 I knew I could deliver. That was my biggest thing this time. I felt like last time, honestly,
13:22 I had other choices. I had other choices. They kind of didn't come together or I wasn't like
13:30 able to do them because of like copyright or whatever. And I was like, it's fine. Like,
13:35 I'm going to run with Tammy because you know how you got your friends. You always do like jokes,
13:39 impersonations of people. We always were somewhere like, you know, doing all that to each other.
13:45 And I'm like, well, what if I do Tammy Brown? That was not a good idea, but it was worth a shot.
13:52 And but this time I felt like, no, this time I'm going to pick somebody that I feel comfortable
13:59 with and like, like truly know that I can deliver. And, you know, this is all stars.
14:04 Like I feel much better with my improv. Like it was pretty good the first time around. Yeah. But
14:10 that was still me. That was still me in my beginning phases of doing anything. So now I'm like
14:16 comfortable and doing stuff like being on Dynasty and stuff like that. Now I'm like comfortable with
14:21 something like that. Now I understand. Yeah, I can definitely say I don't think I understood
14:26 Snatch Game is way more than just shouting out a person's catchphrases the entire time.
14:32 You really got to be that person. So this time I feel like I understood that a little more.
14:35 Good. No, I'm excited to see how that plays out this season. And now your fashion game on season
14:40 14 was also just next level. One of the best collective packages. I mean, it was just,
14:44 it was so good. So how would you describe how your runways are on All Stars 9? Like, I mean,
14:50 did you do you have a different focus or different approach to fashion this time around?
14:53 This time, the one thing I knew I wanted to do with my package was honestly show some diversity.
15:00 Now, you know, I'm a gown girl. Like I come from pageants like, girl, if I don't do nothing else,
15:04 baby, I'm going to put on a gown. I'm going to put on a dress. OK. Hello. Dress. OK. And
15:11 serious dress. This is what I do. I'm sorry. This is me. But I wanted to like show some
15:17 versatility. I was like, girl, it's fine. Try some looks that you've never done, whether it's
15:21 alternative or campy or something like that. You know what I'm saying? Like that that was me this
15:26 time. Even if it is a dress, it's still going to be a lot of dresses, but they're going to be more,
15:32 you know, like I'm trying different styles of like things I wasn't doing or comfortable doing on my
15:38 season. Like now I'm like, because you know, we we know the game now, right? All Stars. We know the
15:43 game. I've been here before. I seen this show before. Girl, we know what Michelle want to say.
15:47 I got time for Michelle sitting up there being like, Angie, I need you to give me versatility
15:53 and all this kind of stuff. You know, it's coming. You know, you know, it's coming. So
15:56 this time I said I'm going to beat you to the punch and I'm just going to show you some.
16:00 I didn't. But I will say this. I really get that critique on my season. So that's fine. Like you
16:06 had a very diverse package. I feel like I did, but I feel like this time it's even more diverse.
16:11 Like this time I really am, you know, trying, you know, more stuff. Also, I got more money now.
16:18 I got more money now, baby. I'm coined. Yes, I'm coined now. Checks, checks, checks,
16:24 coins, coin, coin, coin, coin, coin, coin, coin, coin, coin, coin, coin, coin, coin, coin, coin,
16:27 I'm going now like coin totters like I. Yeah. So so I'm, you know, coin issues like, girl,
16:34 I got it. So so the package was a little, you know, more creative, more expensive. You know,
16:40 it's an all stars package. Great. Yeah. Did you steal anything from set on season 14?
16:48 I did, but I did not bring it with me. But I'm going to tell you what it is. Please do. I'm
16:53 going to tell you what it is. OK. Yes. And at some point it's going to come up. I just hate that. I
16:59 just hate that I forgot to bring it. I may or may not have cut out a piece of the work room wall
17:06 and I made all of my all stars, nine sisters sign it. Oh, my very last day of filming.
17:14 And I'm so mad. I'm so mad that I did not bring it to to to show it to you because I thought I did.
17:23 But I don't got it. But it will resurface and I will make sure you see it because I got it.
17:28 Send a picture and we'll put it. Oh, can we do that? Oh, oh, we're doing that. Yeah,
17:33 we're doing that. Oh, we're doing that. So, yes, I could. Yeah, I cut out a piece of fabric from
17:38 the work room wall and I had all the girls sign it like it's my key. It's my personal keepsake.
17:43 Actually, all of us have one. Meaning to replace everyone does. But yeah, I was like, I need
17:51 something. I did think that I was like, I need a souvenir. I need a souvenir. And I remember.
17:58 I'm sorry I'm telling my sister, but on our season, Bosco had cut out a little piece of the
18:03 wall. You knew that? Yeah. Yeah. Bosco had cut out a little piece of wall. So I remember that. And I
18:08 said, baby, they got a lot of wall in here to spare. It's fine. And I went over there. I said,
18:13 I want them to sign something because everybody was doing a little something. I said, I need I
18:18 do need a little keepsake, a souvenir. And I went over there and I and I cut out just a little piece
18:25 of that wall. And I and I was like, honest, this my yearbook. It's my. Yeah, that's great. They've
18:30 got 40 Emmys. They can afford a new work. Well, yeah, you can get a new wall. It's fine.
18:35 Two questions I'm asking to everybody. Who do you think is the shadiest queen of this season?
18:43 And who do you think needs the Mistress Isabel Brooks drag delusion vaccine from this season?
18:47 The shadiest queen of the whole season, honestly, in my opinion, I think it's Georges because
18:54 yeah, because let me tell you something about my sister. My sister beat me throwing out
18:58 little deeds. You know, they like they like you. George is still out the kind of shade that you
19:03 almost like laugh with her first. But three times in one. You got to think about it and be like,
19:09 it really me. It's like there. It's like you don't even know. It's very like little, little,
19:20 little stuff, little deeds, you know? Yeah, I would definitely have to say Georgia is the shadiest.
19:25 Yes. But honestly, all these including myself could be a little shady here and there.
19:30 But the drag delusion on the truth be told, the girls are going to say me. The girls probably
19:37 going to say me, but I don't think so. That's the first time I think somebody has said themselves
19:42 to that question. Wow. I didn't I didn't say I would. Oh, you said I don't think that they're
19:48 going to. But I think but I think they may say that. Why? I don't know. I think I don't know.
19:56 I don't know. I just think that the girls and the girls, they think that I'm thinking that I'm
20:01 turning it. But I think the thing is, you got to think that you turn it. You have to. You have to
20:05 think you turn it. You have to be confident in what you do. And I'm confident. I'm confident.
20:10 But we all are. I'm confident in what I do. You don't know that it's not drag delusion.
20:17 If if if if it's there. Right. You know, there you go. It ain't drag delusion if you got it.
20:21 But who needs it? OK, but who need but who needs the vaccine? Yeah. No comment.
20:27 We'll find out on the season. Yeah, we'll find out. And that's a that's a TBA to be continued.
20:35 Kind of thing. OK. Cliffhanger. Yeah. We'll come back. We'll come back. So the last question I'm
20:40 asking to everybody is, who do you think? Obviously, like I mean, you had like this is I
20:46 mean, this is amazing. You can't say yourself for this question. Who had the biggest improvement or
20:50 glow up from their original season? Honestly, I think the biggest glow up in my opinion,
20:55 it oh, hold on. I had a bird. That's standing. It is not ladylike. Sorry. Excuse me.
21:03 But I would definitely have to say the biggest glow up to me was plastic. She's always been
21:10 sickening. Right. But this time it's just something something about the package. The package is lovely.
21:16 It's just lovely. She got the coin to us, too. She got the coin sales, too. Like
21:20 it's everything is bigger and richer. And and yeah, honey, she got that tick tock tick.
21:26 The tick tock tick had cash and mama look like it. I'm telling you, she looked like she looked like
21:32 post tick tock fame. OK. Yeah. Well, I think that three people have now said plastic. Yeah.
21:39 We're very pleased to see where plastic is here. She got it coming for you. I'm telling you. But
21:42 I do, too. So don't don't sleep on it. Because I because I'm girl, let me fix this. Girl,
21:50 I'm telling you, because I get excited when I think about it, because I know I'm in the.
21:54 Yeah. Well, I can't wait to see what you do on the season. And it is just it's always so lovely
21:59 talking with you. Thank you so much for being so sweet throughout this entire interview and
22:03 interviews for season 14. There was a lot of you probably. And I'm not saying this just to blow
22:08 your head up, but you really are like one of my favorite people to interview with. Like you really
22:12 you really like you really much. I really like it because we have a lot of interviews. We did. We
22:17 did. Like we did the press stuff. We were doing Twitter space almost every episode. I know. Well,
22:24 that's because he gave us so much excellence to talk about. And here's to you giving us more
